There's not much to do in Idaho.

Having been a former resident, I can state with some confidence that there's enough to do to keep you from sexually assaulting teammates/recruits/whatever.

If there was a football playoff, mid major schools wouldn't have to resort to this kind of thing!!

patch.com"]Events leading to the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl are supposed to be fun-filled activities for the teams, their families and fans to participate in.

The players and spectators relax before the big day and enjoy the sights and surroundings that come with being invited to a bowl game.

Try telling that to the players from Louisville and Southern Mississippi.

At the Beach Bash Sunday afternoon at the Tradewinds Island Resort in St. Pete Beach, hot tempers outweighed the cool temperatures as the event was halted prematurely when players from the competing teams nearly came to blows during a "friendly" poolside dance competition.

"Someone said something disrespectful, did a little jawing after the dance contest… it's all good," said Louisville linebacker Dexter Heyman, who was front and center in the fracas. It's "just a little too close to game time, ya know?" .

Southern Miss players had a different perspective.

"They started talking trash about us being in Conference USA, [that] we can't dance… it was stupid. We'll do our talking on the field," uttered one Golden Eagle who refused to be identified. "A friendly dance competition and they take it all serious? It's ridiculous."

.........

The first contest was the dance-off, featuring three players from each team. It was all in good fun as the players engaged in bouts of break dancing, moonwalking, and the ever-popular "Dougie".

But at the tail end of the contest the back-and-forth banter grew a little too heated, prompting an appearance from a group of armed Florida Highway Patrol officers. Shortly thereafter, emcee Deveryn Wilson warned if emotions weren't tempered, the event would be halted.

The warning didn't work. Minutes later, just before the fan favorite belly flop contest was to begin, the event abruptly ended, the teams quickly dispersed, and the crowd left wondering what had happened.

as opposed to a bowl game that grew naturally from the earth.

I'm not entirely convinced that the Beef O'Brady Bowl isn't some elaborate joke

A common theme:

IdahoStatesman.com"]LAS VEGAS — A spat of pushing and shoving broke out between the Boise State and Utah football teams during Sunday’s MAACO Bowl Las Vegas welcome reception — the first of several events involving both teams.

“Some pushing and shoving, some dishes broken,” said Mark Wallington, the media director for the MAACO Bowl.

Utah moved to a lower level of the Hard Rock Café after the incident.

The incident started outside the massage room, where the bowl had provided professional massages for the players, toward the end of the reception.

“They were just mingling and they got into a little shouting match,” Wallington said.

The skirmish was broken up by the bowl staff.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that nothing of any substance will come from this.

i pretty much hated college football news after reading this... actually i used to read that site frequently and its become kind of a joke the last couple of years. here's one of their rationales for why auburn will beat oregon:

10. The Pac 10 sort of sucks this year

Oregon might be a national title-good team that just so happened to play a mediocre slate. However, it’s not like the Ducks played a who’s who of killers with just one win over a team currently ranked in the BCS top 25. The lone decent road victory came against a Tennessee team that’s only in a bowl because it’s lone win over a bowl team came against Kentucky at home in the regular season finale. The Ducks’ second best win was at USC, who, to be fair, would’ve gone to the Holiday Bowl if eligible. It’s not like they had to beat Alabama, Mississippi State, Clemson, South Carolina (twice), Arkansas, LSU, and Georgia. Auburn has more than proven itself against top-shelf competition. Oregon hasn’t.

the pac 10 is ranked first in the sagarin ratings. and i love that beating teams like mississippi state, clemson and georgia are now great wins.

One of the Ohio State beat writers reported the compliance meetings took place, but now Ohio State is saying it never happened.

Michigan still has 5,500 unsold tickets to the sold out Gator Bowl and Nebraska has 3,900 unsold tickets to the Holiday Bowl. That's going to hurt both schools in future Big Ten bowl selections.

USC and Mississippi State are 22 and 25 respectively in the Sagarin rankings....but overall, I agree with you. CBN probably sells the Pac-10 short in their analysis.

I was pretty drunk during the game, but didn't Oregon beat Stanford? The same Stanford who didn't lose any other games all season? This guy is a moron.

The reasoning is a little sketchy, but he's not wrong. Oregon and Stanford are great, and the rest of the conference is varying degrees of mediocre to awful. USC was the only other team that got to 8 wins. And please don't bring up the extra conference game, because that didn't stop 6 teams from winning 8 games last year, or 5 the year before that.

Yeah, so many people have trumpeted the Pac-10 as great this year (and I was on board for a while), but outside of Oregon and Stanford, they aren't that impressive. USC is ok, Arizona is decent, but I haven't seen much to like about the rest of the conference. That said, wins over Mississippi State, Clemson and Georgia aren't wins to be trumpeted either.

What is it about the Pac-10 that Sagarin likes so much, I wonder?

Nobody (except Washington State) had a bad loss out of conference, and several teams had good wins. They all beat themselves up within the conference, though.

They have the #1 and #2 overall teams, and they were good at losing non-conference games to very good teams(TCU, Boise, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Nevada).
