Nothing will come of it and people like Fiver can continue to live in their fantasy world believing that they were totally clean and that the top players from damn near every nearby state and the top two JUCO players went to Auburn because of the strength of Gene's charisma.

college football would be better if they paid the players a moderate stipend, there was a playoff and their rankings didn't matter

but thats what we have to deal with and it'll never change, and thats also where 99% of all the moaning and groaning comes from

Is anything really going to happen to Auburn now that they actually won the championship? Usually, the NCAA just punishes the team that doesn't win it all.

Do you really think they would've taken the championship away from Memphis if Chalmers misses that shot at the buzzer a couple of years ago? I doubt it.

They didn't vacate USC's championship because of the Reggie Bush stuff right? Also technically does the NCAA have any power to even do that? They literally do not crown a champion in the sport. Thats all the BCS and the AP that decides the 'mythical national champion' anyway.

they do get a stipend. My mom works at the downtown branch of a local bank in State College, and during the football season, players regularly come in to deposit/cash their $1000+ in "travel money"

I'm not sure if they determined was ineligible all 3 years at USC or just 2005 when they lost to Texas?

At least they didn't go to Florida or USC. Or Ohio State. Auburn's not likely to be able to keep it up for long, so I don't even have much problem with it if they did cheat. Some other school will now "get creative" in response. Maybe even Ole Miss, who knows.

This is like complaining that someone in the Tour de France took EPO.

Auburn won despite Cam having a less than stellar game. Fairley is a beast, and yes, he's a little dirty. He's only been flagged for 3 personal fouls all year though, the one last night, the blatant late hit against Georgia, and he was flagged for celebrating too vigorously against either Bama or South Carolina (can't remember which game). I was disappointed to see him push the Oregon players head into the ground, and I was also disappointed by the personal foul on Eric Smith. Other than that, I was proud to see Auburn's performance...the O and D lines made a big difference in the game. Mike Dyer played well at RB, and I look forward to seeing him back for at least two more years.

Many have determined that Auburn is guilty of some large scale pay for play scheme despite there being no evidence. It seems most college football fans want Auburn to be guilty, and they have been scrutinized like few other teams in history. The NCAA, FBI, and even legions of fellow SEC fans have investigated and none have found even a minor infraction to this point. I think many on this particular board pointed towards Auburn's top 3 recruiting class last year as further "evidence" of wrong doing. Nevermind that they regularly crack the top 10 in Rivals recruiting ranksing. A top 3 class is a little out of the ordinary, but they are likely going to have another top 5 class this year...while under the microscope.

...who thinks Cam hurt his draft stock with this performance?

Well, some of the suspicion also comes from the fact that Auburn historically has been anything but a squeaky clean program.

Yeah, per diem pays pretty well.

Plus, you know, they're getting their college tuition paid for, so there's that as well.

Final rankings are out. TCU moved ahead of Oregon for #2 in both the AP and USA Today polls. Auburn was not unanimous in either poll (TCU got 3 first place votes in the AP poll and 1 in USA Today). I actually thought the coaches were REQUIRED to vote for the championship game winner as #1, but apparently I was wrong. I'm guessing those were intended to be statement votes. FCS champion Eastern Washington received one point in the AP poll.

KU-Memphis is a great example for your point. KU had more players who should have been ineligible (Arthur and Rush) and they still have their trophy while Memphis had their season vacated over Rose.

Then again, the NCAA did take USC's championship.

The coaches are supposed to vote for the BCS title game winner, but this isn't the first time there's been a defection or two. I believe Boise State got a couple of rebel votes after the 06 season as well.

FWIW, both Chris Petersen and Kyle Whittingham got votes in the coaches poll. Nobody knows yet who the "rebel coach" was though.

If that's the case, why even allow the coaches to vote for no. 1 at the end of the season? Give them votes for no. 2 to no. 25 and remove Auburn.

That's actually how I thought it was done. I checked and Andy's right; BSU did receive one first place vote after 2006. It may be similar to the year non-rookie Edison Volquez received a ROY vote; the vote wasn't proper, but perhaps they let it slide because it didn't affect the outcome.
