So Fox will air the Big Ten title game, the Cotton Bowl, and literally no other college football game all year long. That'll go well.

Unless Gus Johnson's CBS football contract prohibits him from working any other football games, professional or not, I'd hope that the Big Ten will push hard to get him.

Bama plays Georgia State tonight. My undergraduate alma mater, The University of South Alabama, began playing football as an unclassified NCAA program in 2009, will become an FCS independent in 2011, and complete its FBS transition in 2013. They beat Georgia State earlier this year. Bama can cry all they want about having so many teams schedule an open date before playing them, but they have indirectly scheduled an open week before playing Auburn.

I wouldn't be surprised if it allows him to do work for the BTN and regional outlets (MSG or whoever he does the Knicks for) but not any of it's competitors or major networks.

Really this just needs to be a BTN production or else it will suck. Unfortunately the BTN doesn't really have any good game crews right now.

Per Teddy Greenstein, the deal is for about $140 million. That's a lot more than what some had expected the Big Ten to get out of it ($23m vs. $13-15m)

Have you guys read this thread from Tiger Droppings on the Newton-Auburn drama? If 50% of this is true, SMU will have company in the "death penalty received" column.

http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/messagetopic.asp?p=22778676

Best read yet on the situation.

I see that they also hit on what I was talking about a while back:

The 2010 Class, built primarily on the efforts of Trooper Taylor (as per AU Football Media Propaganda), miraculously lands the #1 players from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, as well as the #1 JUCO signee in Cam Newton. Why the turnaround, when their previous season only netted a 7-5 regular season record (3-5 SEC), along with an overtime win against Northwestern on New Years Day.

Trevon Reed [top player in Louisiana] is a solid to Strong LSU verbal, until very late in the process when he abruptly changes his mind to Auburn, against the better judgment of his high school coach. Similar waffling is also experienced with Dyer, Coleman, and Others. It has been mentioned there exists a recorded conversation between TTaylor and McGregor discussing the progress in wrapping up this class. To paraphrase, ”… just one more deal to cut and it’s all done. Then there’s a mention of needing $200K to close it out.”

I'm sure there are some facts included within the ramblings, but to call this the 'best read yet on the situation' is absurd. I can see how alumni from other SEC schools would find the musings entertaining. I will say that I'm not a fan of Lowder's, and if AU does go down in flames, then I will not be giving another dollar to the university until AU adminstration eliminates Lowder from the board of trustees and stops accepting donations from people associated with him.

i believe newton. i mean, he was willing to play at mississippi state for $180,000, so it makes perfect sense that he would be willing to play at auburn for $0.00.

reminds me of that one time that baseball free agent wanted a 5 yr/$100 million contract, but then ended up signing for 5 yr/$0.

I feel for you man, but that was an extremely thorough piece that guy wrote. He pretty much put together every piece of information that is out there and put it in narrative form. I really think y'all are screwed.

Holy cow that's a lot of words.

Yeah, can someone give a tl;dr version?

It's a five-act Broadway production, should be hitting a theatre near you in the near future. It's called "Auburn is screwed".

I'm not sticking my head in the sand. Lowder has no place being on AU's board of trustees. However, when you say this posting on a forum puts together 'every piece thats out there', you aren't alluding to just pieces of journalism that can be validated as being factual. Some of the guys bullet points come from the piece of journalism he references in that particular section, but some of his bullet points are speculation on his or his source's behalf. Thorough does not necessarily equal accurate in this scenario.

...but yeah, if only half of this is true, then AU is going to have some major problems. If only half of this is true, I can tell you there are thousands upon thousands of Auburn alumni who would be appalled and hurt. This isn't how we want the university to be portrayed. This wouldn't be representative of 99.9% of AU alumni's moral fiber. I'll continue to wait and see what is proven.
