well, it wasn't really close to a facemask. so it goes to show what illini fans know.

in the video the illinois player did have his hand on the facemask and Thomas does kind of look like his body gets turned. I dont think the video shows that there was or wasnt a facemask...I am just saying that the fans who were closest to the play seemed to think it may have been a facemask and didnt really get to worked up about if he was down or not.

that's irrelevant what they thought before the replay. what did they think after they saw the replay?

the replay also very clearly shows that there was no facemask and that the hand involved in the play was slapping the ball out. if he was carrying the ball between his facemask and his face, it could have been a penalty, i admit.

always fun to lose by 2 scores when you outgain your opponent. probably would have been a different game with arnaud in there, but oh well. if you can't beat a winless colorado team 2 days after they fire their coach when you're playing for a bowl bid, you probably don't deserve to go to a bowl.

I was surprised Hawkins still had a job, but I guess they had to pay him a large sum of money to no longer coach the team.

I guess sometimes even having a great record at a smaller school doesn't always translate to a different situation.

I dont think Memorial Stadium had that great of a replay screen then and probably didnt have that last angle that clearly showed the fumble before the knee was down.

Are we still upset Game Day wasn't at the Nebraska-Texas A&M barn burner? 3-3 after 3. How exciting.

No one was really upset that GameDay didn't come to College Station. I was disappointed with the decision and hoped they would choose a better matchup instead of picking a game simply because of the venue. And just because a game is low scoring, doesn't mean it is a bad or boring game. It's like a 1-0 pitcher's duel in baseball. Both defenses were outstanding last night. It's not like either team has a crappy offense.

As for the Brothers Pelini, they are both classless jerks. Bo got an unsportsmanlike flag for one extended tirade on an official and his team had about 6 or 7 personal fouls on the night. The last roughing the passer that gave us the first down on what turned out to be the game winning drive was a terrible call. He has every right to be pissed about that one. But pretty much every other penalty was legit. I know the guy that was attacked by Carl Pelini. Here is his statement on the confrontation:

At the conclusion of the game, I ran out onto the field with my video camera to capture the post celebrations of the players and coaches. When I reached approximately mid field (near the east hash marks), I came upon Carl Pelini verbally lashing a gentlemen on the field. I directed my camera toward the commotion and captured the Nebraska coach as he began to walk away. As Carl turned, his eye caught my camera and the fact that I might have captured some of the exchange. What happened next was truly bazaar. From about 10 feet away, he charged straight for me and for the camera that I was holding. By the time he reached me, I already had my camera by side. He grabbed the camera and I battled to maintain possession of it. Unable to gain possession of it, he broke the eye piece off in several pieces and threw them into the surrounding crowd. He then stormed off. The surrounding crowd helped me recover the pieces of my camera.

Also, there is no audio because, like an idiot, I forgot to put the shotgun mic back on the camera after coming down from the photo deck with 3 minutes remaining. As a result, I got zero audio.

I sometimes wonder about coaches who get on the refs all the time. I would think that sometimes it works in their favor in the squeaky wheel gets the grease kind of way. I have also seen times that I think refs make an extra effort to find penalties against teams that have coaches that constantly complain. I coach a much lower level of FB and have found a couple of times that I think we were rewarded by refs because the opposing coaches were obnoxious.

USC's Dillon Baxter has been ruled ineligible for extra benefits from an agent (a golf cart ride). He missed yesterday's Oregon State game.

Apparently one of the principals for that agent's company played for the Trojans last year.

USC, no they would never have anything to do with that.

lot's of likely baseless rumors that Taylor Martinez quit the team at NU.

Heard rumors for the past few weeks that he wants to transfer back to southern California. Pelini yelling at him on the sidelines last night probably didn't help.

I edited to take out the capital in "Southern." The rumors are that he wanted to come back to a school in the region; he's originally from here.

i don't know, the public was tired of getting jobbed, and it was a nearly every fan everywhere felt that replay should be instituted.

after an important nationally-televised night game between unbeatens got totally blown up, i don't think it much mattered what important figures were behind it, it was going to happen because fans and alumni wanted it.

here are a couple of those calls.

i remember watching that game and wondering what on earth the refs were doing on that first call. when he was cartwheeled it wasn't like he had a lot of bodies around him; it was really easy to see that the ground called the fumble. then you could easily see in live action that he gathered the non-fumbled ball back into his body. then all of a sudden it's michigan's ball???
