I've heard nothing further with regard to IU transfer, has that talk quieted down?

I haven't seen/heard anything.

Right now everyone is kind of hanging on what Moses Abraham is going to decide (allegedly between Georgetown and IU), which is sort of sad.

I'm...hopeful is probably the word, for next year. They'll still be in the bottom half of the league but I'm anxious to see a full season of Creek (to a much lesser extent, Roth) along with more mature versions of Watford, Elston, Hulls and Jones. A .500 season would probably be an absolute best-case scenario, though not likely.

...no mention of IU basketball yet in this thread. IU fans can't get excited for year 3 of Crean, and I think that says something. I expected years 1 and 2 to be disasters because of the condition of the program, but I'm disappointed that IU isn't closer to being relevant again. I'll say it again....They really needed Crean to deliver a strong...ok, adequate (dang, I'd settle for 'not a disaster') 2010 recruiting class.

Watching the tournament has made me ill.

-Ben Allen (who transfered when Sampson's major class came in) is averaging almost 11 and 8 for St. Mary's (though he would have been a senior in 2009).

-Jordan Crawford is putting up POTY numbers for Xavier the last couple weeks.

-Terrell Holloway (former Sampson commit) is the PG for Xavier and having a strong year.

-Armon Bassett averaged 17 for Ohio U this year.

-Devin Ebanks was a Sampson commit and is putting up 12 and 8 for one of the nation's top team.

-Eli Holman is putting up 12 and 8 for Detroit.

Yeah, Allen doesn't bother me as much, but it's pretty depressing overall. You can put together a pretty solid starting five just of guys playing right now who were at IU or committed. Guh...

Too bad he cheated like a mofo to recruit these guys, eh?

Crean has to recruit the state of Indiana like gangbusters in 2011 and 2012. That was always going to be the make-or-break moment, and it hasn't changed. We'll see if he can get it done. Expecting much more than .500 by year three I think was turning a blind eye to how low the nadir of the program actually was.

I have a hard time getting on him too much for 2010. 2011 and especially 2012 are where this thing will have to be made. Hell, I'm suprised he even got this close on Abraham, even if he's being over-hyped.

Agreed. I still don't think IU will get Abraham -- and am extremely dubious how good he'll be in any event -- but I'm pretty impressed at the last-minute sales job Crean has done. Obviously at some point Crean will have to actually cash in; but that should be easier with in-state players coming off what hopefully will be a better year (even around .500 would be another step in the right direction).

Making a late push for Moses Abraham could help, but from what I've read about him, he's too raw to contribute as a freshman....he wasn't even considered a top 20 center in his recruiting class. Even so, IU needs any help it can get in the frontcourt, and that's why we're holding our breath, hoping we get Abraham.

I know everyone wants to be patient with Crean, and I'll give him a terrible 2010 recruiting class. However, I will have had enough of him if he has a terrible 2010 recruiting class AND has 'key' players already on the roster transfer.

No one could really want Bassett on their team after all knowing everything that came out about him.

Now the Iowa talk seems to be shifting to more underwhelming candidates. I fully expect to be letdown and I did not have outrageous expectations like some.

So, right now of the current rumored coaches the best option might just be to have kept Lickliter.

Who's being rumored?

Barta is in Atlanta apparently meeting with up to 4 candidates who are done with their season. Jim Boylen from Utah, Fran McCafferey from Siena are two that are reportedly there to see him. Paul Hewitt is another guy who was rumored to have met with them but it looks like he's going to St. John's. I wouldn't mind McCafferey all that much but it sounds like DePaul and Seton Hall may pay him big. Some rumors that Brian Gregory from Dayton and Gregg Marshall may have turned down a chance to interview for the preliminary price passed on by the search committee.

I would rather take more risk but hope for higher upside and go with a top recruiter at a high-major than an average mid-major coach with average recruiting.

I'm not sure I'd call the 2010 class a disaster. I mean we only had 2 or 3 spots open anyways. What players has he missed on that he should have gotten for 2010? He's been playing from behind on most kids just due to the timing of his taking over the program. 2011 and 2012 kids he is getting a much better chance to get a foothold early in the process so that is where he really needs to strike gold.

Sheehey and Oladipo are just 3 star kids but they aren't trash. They have some useful skills to give us better quality depth and they can fill some roles off the bench. And if we can snag Abraham then it looks better too. I mean yeah he is getting overhyped right now but still it sounds to me like he could at least come in next season and contribute some minutes. He doesn't have to be an impact player, heck he just needs to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time.

I really do think if we can get a full season of Creek & Roth with no critical injuries (knock on wood) that we can make a bit more progress. Nothing major, maybe .500ish overall?

Someone needs to give Quin Snyder a second chance.

hahahaha someone you hate. Quin Snyder was a terrible, terrible coach. I remember when Missouri had a talented and hyped team and Davidson went in and beat them several years ago (pre-Curry, Davidson had a good team but should have not been able to beat Missouri that year) and the following year slaughtered the Tigers at Davidson in the return game, they just looked clueless and had no gameplan or fundamentals; Davidson made them look horrible yet didn't do much against the rest of their non-conference opponents that year.

(i went to Davidson and remember how hilarious the game in question was, and the hair jokes which were made throughout the amusing blowout in Davidson's tiny gym)

I would love to see him go to Duke, which will never happen but is a fate the Blue Devils are deserving of having occur post-Rat Coach K.

Ball State loses only two seniors (neither starters) from the group that went from presumptive No. 2 seed in the MAC tournament to done after losing the 8/9 game.

The starting lineup for next year will probably look something like this

Randy Davis - Jr

Jauwan Scaife - So

Pierre Sneed - Jr

Malik Perry - Sr

Jarrod Jones - Jr

If the three sophomores can make leaps into their junior year, 10-11 could be BSU's best shot to get back to the tournament since their last dance, in 2000. At the least, I would expect some sort of postseason bid.

I'd do a projected starting lineup for Iowa State, but experience tells me there's probably more transfers coming. Hamilton (starting center, big loss) and Buckley (not so much) have already left in addition to Brackins going pro and Gilstrap not getting another year. I think Colvin is the only significant underclassman that hasn't gone so far. McDermott has a vote of confidence for another year I guess, but he's probably looking at 2-3 conference wins. Barring a miracle, next year is a wasted season for ISU.

UTEP people saying Tony Barbee interviewed with Iowa in Atlanta today. Other media reports had him interviewing with Auburn today also.

Perhaps posters on a UTEP message board. Their AD has made it clear there has been no contact.
