KU's prize recruit, Geneo Grissom switched to OU today, and it pisses me off. They have about 47 4* DE on the roster. We have about 6 DEs. Total. And I have as many stars as a few of them.

I get wanting to go to OU. But this kid grew up a KU fan, and he's staring at the opportunity to start perhaps as a freshman. But his coach and Brett Venables are old friends, and during the KU coaching change, his coach started pushing him to decommit. Lo and behold, commit he did...to a team that doesn't even have a DL coach right now. That's three 4* players from Kansas this year, all to OU.

Like I said, I get it. It's OU. But it [expletive] sucks.

Maybe Gill should have hired his dad as director of football operations

I wish he would have. Or at least hired a guy with connections to World Wide Wes's football loving cousin.

dew (and Red Flash, I guess...)

For the first time tonight, I heard Sal Sunseri's name associated with the DC position at UT.

That actually makes alot of sense and Tennessee would get themselves an underrated coach.

That definitely interests me. I'd prefer Steele, but Sunseri is another Saban disciple.

I don't know what the hell is going on at Auburn. Y'alls recruiting is insane. You've got our top player BTW from Mississippi, Shon Coleman, an OL.

I know that Chizik took at least 500k less than what Auburn was willing to pay him so he could put that money towards hiring assistants. Most of his assistants are above average recruiters evidently. I know Trooper Taylor is a pretty valued recruiter, and I believe that was the case when he was at UT also.

Eric Mack committed to Auburn this morning, btw. That puts them at 22 or 23 for the 2010 class...Now they are shifting their attention towards signing a couple of 4* defensive tackles...and obviously another RB if Lattimore wants to come to Auburn.

Trooper's a fantastic recruiter and a very good coach as well. I'd love to have him back at UT.

Mike Shula to ECU?

An East Carolina official said Wednesday there were three or four prime targets to become the next ECU head football coach.

A source close to the coaching search told The Reflector Wednesday evening that Mike Shula, quarterbacks coach for the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars and former Alabama coach, was a lead candidate.

Other leading candidates who were reportedly poised to interview with Holland as of Wednesday night are Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, former Texas Tech defensive coordinator and ECU alum Ruffin McNeill and ECU co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Steve Shankweiler.

Two sources in Oklahoma indicated Wilson would be very interested in the ECU job if offered.

Talent alone Mack is worth the hype, but there was a reason why USCe didn't fight to keep the young man. USCe doesn't produce a ton of in-state premium talent and they don't always land said in-state talent, so for them to bid farewell for a talent like Mack is quite telling. And it was confirm by a couple of USCe friends of mine that Mack has both character and weight issues. So since Auburn doesn't have a problem with taking young players with character issues (ie Rollison, Newton), them landing Mack isn't a surprise.

Shula should have started at a school like ECU and not at his alma mater like Bama. The biggest problems I had with Shula was that he encourages cliques, he placate to star players (ie DJ Hall  ), and he geniunely seems to be disinterested in establishing discipline. He might work at a school like ECU.

Dare I ask what USCe is supposed to mean?

SSR is right, USCe=South Carolina. Since there are two USC, I tend to use USCe for South Carolina and USCw for South Carolina.

I'm confused, Redflash. Per my understanding, South Carolina didn't rescind their scholarhip offer. Mack decommitted and then committed to Auburn...Mack very well may have overeating tendencies and character issues as you describe. However, I'm left thinking your USCe friends may be dining on sour grapes.

It won't be Shula.

Ruffin McNeill is set to be named the head football coach at East Carolina, a source at ECU has confirmed to The Daily Reflector.

A 5 p.m. Board of Trustees meeting will confirm the hiring made by ECU athletic director Terry Holland.

I heard Sal Sunseri's name pop up again for the DC job at Tennessee. I'd like that move, couple with making Lance Thompson the recruiting coordinator and bringing in Stacy Searles.

That last part is probably a pipe dream, though.

Oh come on, everybody knows ECU suffers from an abundance of overly disciplined non-cliquey players and could use a coach like Shula to turn things around.

Come on now. Redflash knows a lot about what goes on at ECU and 'USCe'. why else would he assert that Shula would be a good fit at ECU because his encouragement of cliques and disinterest in discipline? Why else would he assert that South Carolina didn't really want Eric Mack to join their team despite the scholly offer? He obviously has strong connections with these schools.

edit - dammit gooney beat me and was funnier.

I'm happy with the McNeil hire, too.

McNeill is an interesting hire. I was hoping for Dave Clawson as I think he can do a good job as a HC, but it's nice to see McNeill get a head coaching job as well.
