That said, sorry Bear fans. I wish we could have poached your coach.

Yeah. Even when the hangman's noose is being fitted over his neck in his current job, Lovie doesn't want to take a solid opportunity to start again.

I would have bolted for UT in a second. That's a solid college job. SEC. Tons of national TV coverage.

The biggest reason I thought it might have the possibility of being realistic was job security. Lovie has none in Chicago, he'd have plenty in Knoxville. He must really think he can win next year in Chicago.

Guys, maybe you all didn't see my post a couple pages ago, but EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY is in the middle of a coaching hunt. Let's get back on track here... :-)

You can still have the coach Tennessee should have hired – Mike Leach. :D

I would be ecstatic

As would I have been if UT had hired him.

Yeah. That's what I would have thought, as well.

It's hard to predict 2010, but I'm bracing for the worst. Since I don't feel Lovie is the right coach to carry this team forward, I'm not sure I even want him to succeed. For the Bears the priority must be Jay Cutler. I just cannot see Lovie being the right guy to move him and the offense forward.

I think he would have been a good fit in Tennessee. But no, he just cuts it off. Doesn't sound like he has a real good perspective right now to me.

Judging by the complaints of many Bears fans and from what I've seen, I think Lovie may be more suited to being a college coach than an NFL coach. His focus on teaching and on fundamentals leads me to think he'd fit well as a collegiate head coach.

I'm not sure about his teaching on fundamentals. He is a defensive coach who ignores tackling. I think he'd make a good college coach, but he's not a big motivator, which seems to be a big thing with college coaches.

The motivator part might be a drawback, but could be easily covered with assistants who are.

Chow staying at UCLA
Offensive coordinator Norm Chow is staying at UCLA, rebuffing overtures from Lane Kiffin to return to USC.

UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel confirmed Thursday that Chow, a widely respected offensive mastermind during nearly four decades in college football, will be back for a third season with the Bruins.

USC athletic director Mike Garrett acknowledged Wednesday he hoped to lure Chow to Kiffin's new staff with a lucrative offer, but Chow decided not to switch sides in Los Angeles' fierce football rivalry.

"I appreciate the interest from USC and Lane Kiffin, but I feel we are building something special here at UCLA, and I am excited about our future," Chow said. "We have some outstanding young players in the program, and we're working hard on finishing strong in recruiting."

Good for Norm. He's a class act but he's 63 and already has a championship ring courtesy of USC. Makes sense that he would want to stay with a program with less pressure, tradition and expectations.

Dooley seems like a home run or bust type. He's not going to have a lot of room for error. If he's average he will get canned because he doesnt have the luxury of a resume to say 'lets be patient'. Interesting choice though.

Yeah, it's definitely not a Cutcliffe-esque choice. The good thing about Dooley is, like what we hoped for with Kiffin, if he's good, he can be here 10+ years. He was a long-term hire, but the fans will want him to be good now as well.

lol, USC fans are giving Bama fans a run for their money in a-holery.

Less sanctions too. Don't forget sanctions.

Lane Kiffin is such a POS

Kiffen on Jim Rome Show: "Recruits weren't coming to Tennessee to wear the yellow uniform. They were coming to play for this coaching staff."

YELLOW? I vaguely wonder if Kiffin is intentionally trying to portray himself as an idiot.

If none of you have heard the sound byte from ESPN, a very young (and admittedly immature) radio host (and Volsbitch.com poster) asked Dooley the question: "Will you or your staff be calling USC recruits and asking them not to attend classes?"

Other reporters broke out into laughter, but Dooley used it as an opportunity to show great class. Said he was not going to disparage any other programs, and that instead he wanted to focus on Tennessee and doing things the right way there. It certainly was a break from what UT fans have endured over the past 14 months.

This same reporter is taking all of the behind the scenes, under wraps dirt he has on Kiffin (which is pretty significant) and emailing it all to Bill Plaschke. I don't expect anything to ever come of it, but it could be an absolute riot if Bill runs with any of it. (Pun intended, btw.)

Pat Forde said it best: Lane Kiffin needs to stop acting like he hit a triple; he was born on third base.

I laughed when he called him the Paris Hilton of football.

the funny thing is, they could probably not attend class and still get an A.

I'm sure Plaschke will put his neck on the line because of innuendo received from a "reporter" at the reputable Volsbitch.com

Well, another bout with brilliance, I see. I did not say he was a reporter for Volsbitch. I said he was a poster there. He's actually a radio reporter for the local ESPN Radio affiliate.

But let's not let reality get in the way of being a douche.

Whatever.

You make it seem like common knowledge so I'm sure it'll come out one way or another. I just don't expect Plaschke to run with it. If you want unsubstantiated gossip and petulant douchery run in the LA Times you send it to TJ Simers.
