-People shouldn't act like Garrett Gilbert is a chump. He was a 5-star, top-20 recruit. He'll end up being a very good QB. I don't think he played poorly, couple receivers didn't make plays for him and Alabama made some great defensive plays as well.

Is anybody acting that way? I thought the whole point was he was a talented yet inexperienced freshmen who was pressed into action too early, ultimately fell short but should have a nice career.

Yes, go back and read the thread. Someone said "this is the best backup QB the biggest team in the homeland of football can get?" (not an exact quote). So, while not everyone is acting that way, some certainly are.

Well that person isn't very bright, they aren't an NFL team. College backups are almost always young and inexperienced. Good experienced backups transfer.

-Not kneeling to end the first half was horrible coaching.

I am forgetting football rules, but is a shovel pass a live ball if the guy dropped it and it hit the ground?

Last night was the first time I have seen a fair catch off a kickoff. Can you even call a fair catch off a kickoff?

A shovel pass is a pass, so it would be an incomplete pass. And, yes, you can fair catch a kickoff; it happens sometimes on short kicks like that when an up-back is forced to field the kick.

A shovel pass, like all passes, is a live ball if it hits the ground as a backward pass (since it's a lateral). If it is a forward pass and it hits the ground, it is incomplete.

Yes, you can fair catch a kickoff.

Random thoughts.

-This is probably uncouth and should be left unsaid, but why couldn't McCoy come back in the game?

From what I heard this morning, he said after the game that he couldn't feel his right arm. I'm guessing there was no way he could come back in. I'm pretty sure it's hard to throw a pass accurately if you can't feel your arm.

He said on the radio last night that it was probably a pinch nerve and he had no zip on his throws.

Herbstreit's top 5 for 2010:

1. Alabama

2. Ohio State

3. Oklahoma

4. Iowa

5. Virginia Tech

Doesn't Boise return nearly everybody? If so, they ought to be on that list somewhere.

boise st also ought to be ranked higher than #4 in both polls to end the year, but as usual the non-bcs conferences get ignored by everyone.

don't know where else to put this, but USF fired jim leavitt as coach for abusing a player. seems like another situation like the one with mike leach, the university just got tired of the guy and found a reason to can him.

That would have been me if the score were reversed. And I experienced that in 2005. The t-shirt Longhorn fans are some of the most annoying people on earth. The ones who actually went to school there aren't that bad.

Yeah, that was me a few years ago with USC. And many times last decade with the freaking Lakers. I feel your pain.

Yeah, them not having a shot at the title is one thing, but then #4 in the polls is just ridiculous.

Yeah, I had a link about this on the last page. It's surprising to me as Leavitt was the guy who built USF into what it is now. Of course, the same could be said of Leach and Texas Tech.

I'm thankful that I have no idea how annoying it is to live in Alabama ever.

I know some have answered the "Why couldn't Colt come back" question, but this explains it a bit better, imo: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=dw-texasqbs010810&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

I was upset about the game last night, but mostly because I felt bad for Colt. Texas, with a true freshman QB with 26 pass attempts all year and probably zero practice with the first-team, coming within 3 of Alabama was a good fight. I'm proud of them. I'm upset, though, because I hate that Colt didn't get to finish what he'd worked his whole life for (up to this point).

Thanks. I hadn't read anything post-game recap about his injury yet. I hated seeing him get hurt like that; it just didn't look like a game-ender (though obviously uneducated "looks" aren't terribly conclusive).

Collin Cowherd said that was proof that the SEC hits harder than everyone else. "That hit last night didn't even look bad. But that's what the SEC does, they hit harder than everyone else and beat you up. Even when it doesn't look bad, it is."

Sometimes my bed hits me so hard when I'm asleep that I can barely move my arm when I wake up. It must be an SEC bed.
