So I noticed a lot of people making fun of Saban not enjoying the gatorade bath, but nobody mentioning that that was one of the most "violent" gatorade dumps I've seen. They didn't just pour it on him, they ran at him and may have even hit his head/neck/shoulder with the cooler itself. I wouldn't have enjoyed that. This isn't to dismiss the notion that Saban is a jerk. But it seems to me that the players may have been taking some liberties with an aggressive dump knowing it's the only time they'd get away with doing something to him.

The only thing I know is that game was a huge letdown early. Yes, Texas made a valiant run at it. But knowing they wouldn't have their best player just took all the excitement out of it for me. I only watched sparsely.

I didn't watch one second of the 2nd half once I heard McCoy wasn't going to play. Sounds like I missed any interesting half.

Congrats to Alabama winning the BCS Title Game.

I'm certainly not disappointed in losing to Alabama, but the circumstances of how it happened made it feel a whole lot worse. Before the game if you told me Alabama won I would have had no problem in feeling like they were the best team in the country, this morning I certainly don't feel that way. If the teams were at full strength Texas could have won.

I'm very happy with the way the Texas defense played, Sergio Kindle probably boosted his status up to around a top 15 pick. Shipley is going to be a great #2 receiver for some team in the NFL (wouldn't be surprised to see the Patriots take him with Welker going down)

Mack Brown and Greg Davis panicking lost the game more than anything else. They have a QB with probably a better arm than McCoy who is more than capable of at least attempting to make plays, and it took more than 2 quarters even to give him a shot. Then they continued to try to run the ball in between the tackles of Alabama which made no sense after they had some success running to the outside. Tre Newton is not the type of runner who will run inside against a D like Alabama. Greg Davis is not a very good OC to begin with, him having to make mid-game adjustments is a nightmare.

The fact that Texas had a chance to win the game with 3 minutes left was amazing, and you still wonder how things would have been different if they had just kneeled the ball at the end of the 1st half, instead of giving them a Harrison like play in last years Super Bowl. McElroy is probably the worst QB to win the BCS this decade.

It sucks, I feel bad for McCoy and all of the other players.

Besides, since I am a Cub fan why won't you let me enjoy the one time that a favorite team of mine is on top of their sports world? I wouldn't crap another anybody else parade if their team won, so why crap on mine?

probably because youre acting like a fool with this 13th nc crap. shut the hell up about that and enjoy your title and i doubt anyone will really care.

Who's the last one that wwas worse. I'm honestly drawing a blank thinking of a worse QB to win a title.

Krenzel, although his team didn't actually win the game.

Random thoughts.

-Impressed with the perseverance Texas showed fighting back into the game with their backup QB. Hats off to them.

-This is probably uncouth and should be left unsaid, but why couldn't McCoy come back in the game?

-People shouldn't act like Garrett Gilbert is a chump. He was a 5-star, top-20 recruit. He'll end up being a very good QB. I don't think he played poorly, couple receivers didn't make plays for him and Alabama made some great defensive plays as well.

-Not kneeling to end the first half was horrible coaching. I'm not terribly conservative, but that was not a good decision. Regroup with your freshman QB at halftime only down a very manageable 17-6. The interception return was a fluke, sure, but the chances of UT scoring were so minimal it wasn't worth the risk.

-The last TD scored by Alabama was classless. Shame on them.

-I have a feeling Alabama would have won even if McCoy played. Reason being they absolutely went into a hole offensively because they didn't feel threatened by UT's offense anymore. I doubt this would have happened with McCoy; though obviously UT's defense played well. This will likely be a minority opinion, I understand.

-Alabama deserved the title. If last night left a sour taste in people's mouth, they should simply recall Bama's demolition of Florida in the SEC Championship Game. That said, I feel this year saw one of the weakest Champions and Heisman winners of recent memory (or even all time).

302/456 (69.3%) 4851 yards, 55 Td's, 5 Int's. 776 yards rushing, 6.7 avg. 23 Td's.

These were Gilbert's numbers just from his senior season in HS, 78 TD's in one freaking year. He was rated higher than Barkley for most of last year, and Barkley went ahead of him after the Under Armor game. The 1st four drives he played were pretty much a waste with the play calling last night.

That's a hell of a lot easier said then done.

I know it is, but how about getting tougher schedules? Next year is a start with Virginia Tech, but that's not enough.

It takes two sides to agree to a game. Boise can't just call up Florida or Alabama and say "Hey guys, we're coming to play you next year on Sept 4".

There was a story earlier in the year (can be read here) about how Boise was calling a bunch of schools that had an open game the same weekend Boise did asking to play one game at the other team's place (no return trip necessary) and they were getting turned down left and right.

Given the culture in NCAA Football, I understand why they have such trouble finding teams to play them. What does it benefit teams to host Boise State? You beat them, and it's just a WAC pretender. You lose, and you're totally out of the BCS Championship picture. It's almost a no-win situation.

I'm not saying it should be that way, just that it is that way.

Yeah, the current system gives no real opportunity for a non-marquee team to do anything concerning a BCS title. Teams like Boise, TCU, etc. are criticized constantly for not playing tougher teams, but they have no choice in the matter. There is absolutely no incentive whatsoever for a marquee school to play Boise, TCU, Utah, BYU or any other legit mid-major team. And as long as we have the BCS in place, there won't be a reason.

Yet another reason for a playoff system . . .

he may end up good but he certainly was not good last night. i'm not saying i blame him - it's a lot to expect a young guy who basically hasn't played college football to be thrown into four quarters against one of the best teams in the country, on the biggest stage in the sport, and expect him to succeed. but i wouldn't blame the play calling or receivers; for the most part he just looked like he struggled with his accuracy and reading of the defense.

Is anybody acting that way? I thought the whole point was he was a talented yet inexperienced freshmen who was pressed into action too early, ultimately fell short but should have a nice career.

Am I the only one that thought Gilbert was pretty good in the 2nd half? I thought Texas's WRs lost the game for them. (Well that and Brown shutting down the offense until it was time to give up a free 7 at the end of the half) A lot of drops from the kids that should've been stepping up. You had a 14 point swing on dropped passes from the RB's juggling of the shovel pass and the dropped TD by the guy who's name I can't remember.

That's not to say Texas's offense wouldn't have performed better with McCoy. It most certainly would have, but I thought Gilbert did an ok job.

He played a lot better in the second half. In the first half he wasn't particularly good overall, but you saw some flashes of his talent. In the second half, those flashes happened a lot more often and it appeared he was seeing the defense a lot better too.

I think Gilbert will probably go into spring ball with a lot of confidence. He probably won't face a better defense than that all next year. I'm happy for him and the job he did. I also think he is more of a pro-style QB running a traditional offense rather than the spread, but we will see.

I thought Gilbert played pretty damn well for a true freshman in the National Title game. Especially his 2nd half. He had a TD pass dropped in the endzone that was a beautifully thrown ball. They catch that, and they actually use their head, and just go into the half instead of the stupid ass shovel pass, and Texas is in prime position to win that game.

Mack "Butter Teeth" Brown is a moron for not getting Gilbert more experience this season. Texas won 9 games by 24 or more points, if I am not mistaken. How many pass attempts did Gilbert have before last night? Hardly any. Mack consistently mishandles the QB position and it finally bit him on the butt. And it's not like McCoy is some Favre-like ironman either.

Brown gets labeled a villain if he brings the backup into a blowout and has him throw the ball all over the place, probably rightly so.

Yeah, kind of a no win situation.

Yes, go back and read the thread. Someone said "this is the best backup QB the biggest team in the homeland of football can get?" (not an exact quote). So, while not everyone is acting that way, some certainly are.
