Moving the infield in, in the 4th inning, against a lefty, may just be the dumbest move Ive seen Lou make all year. Quit panicking Lou. Hell why not walk Duncan to face Nick Stavinoah(a righty who sucks) and set the team up for a dp(which he hit into)? Lou is panicking about the team not scoring runs, and its [expletive] May.

I've been saying it for a while. Lou is a panic machine, and that's the last thing this team needs. It's not surprising that his teams keep choking in the playoffs. He just keeps getting worse and worse as he gets older.

yep, lou is the one panicking

i know. that's what we said.

Yea I dont know what else you would call it.

it's the same thing with his constant hit and runs when we're not scoring, calling out guys when they have one bad game, trying soriano out of the leadoff spot multiple times but only for a game or 2 (and then claiming he actually tried it), bencing good hitters because they make a defensive mistake even though the alternative is clearly worse, etc....

I agree 100%, and I really think Lou being so uptight may be part of the problem in the playoffs.

Supposedly Lou was ticked about the players spending too much time in the casino connected to the Four Seasons Hotel in St. Louis and pulled them out after last night's game.

Maybe Lou saw them in the casino on his way to throw down bets against the Cubs. Not that he'd be smart enough to do this, but he certainly has been decreasing the odds of Cub wins about as much as a manager can possibly do with these recent gems.

The pitchouts were truly horrendous. Hell, I might trade him for DUSTY right now. No young Ps to abuse really, well except Marmol who is already getting worked a ton.

The problem *might* have something to do with the Cubs having only one consistent run producer, and that run producer being out for quite some time.

The Cubs problems are all mostly caused by the GM.

uh oh....

ST. LOUIS -- The Cubs don't have many backup options at third base with Aramis Ramirez sidelined at least one month because of a dislocated shoulder. Lou Piniella has been considering the possibilities.

"The only other option we would have -- and you all are going to like this one -- is move [Alfonso] Soriano to second and [Micah] Hoffpauir to left," Piniella said Thursday. "Hopefully, it doesn't get to that. That, again, is a measure of last resort."

What has to happen for the Cubs to do that?

"We'll explore all our other options [first]," Piniella said. "I feel very comfortable with our outfield with Soriano in left field. I want to get Hoffpauir in the lineup. I want to give everybody else the opportunity to swing the bats the way they're capable. I've talked about it with Alan [Trammell, bench coach]. I would think it's a very remote possibility, but we'll see."

i'm not sure how i feel about that. the defense would suck but if hoffpauir keeps hitting, damn that offense would be fun. just call up jake fox and put him at third and try to outscore everyone 10-9.

Yesterday's series of pitchouts was a managerial masterpiece.

completely boggled the mind.

At least he's coming up with new ways to boggle the mind of the Cubs fan.

In addition to some "problems" which are the result of negative swings in variance, I will agree with this, although a lot of the GM problems might be avoided if we had some mythical "perfect" manager who didn't ask for stupid things like LH bench versatility, and the trade of Wuertz to name just one Lou-move.

Z as a pinch hitter 2 outs 2 on in the 7th inning of a 2 run game, while Fuku, Font, Hill, and DLee all sit on the bench. Oh and it was a RH pitcher. Good call you idiot

Yeah. That was baffling. I can't wait to watch him get all pissy when someone asks him about it.

Yea and lets not forget letting Ascanio bat with a runner on 2nd, and then pulling Ascanio out of the game, for Cotts. If you are going to use Z as a ph, that would have been the time early in the game, not in the 7th [expletive] inning of a 2 run game

Those other guys better be vomiting out back with Lee and Scales.

Hell even if they are, it didnt stop him from using Scales already.

Why let Reed face Capps,a righty, in the 9th inning instead of Fuku?

Because we used Kosuke to pinch hit in the 7th with runners on 1st and 2nd when we were down by 2...

Oh wait that's right Z hit
