just terrific work with the PH's today. let fuku bat against an LHP in a big spot, not PH for inept hill and blanco in the 7th inning, then use miles.

as i've said before, lou's bad in-game decisions were easier to overlook when the roster was overperforming, but now that it's underperforming he really brings no positives. i wouldn't mind a change.

How has Lou been the single best thing? Aramis Ramirez has had by far a greater impact on the team, same with Zambrano. I heard the same nonsense about Dusty back in 2004 when people were all giddy about actually finishing over .500 in back to back seasons.

How long is one 100? Is that like 10 years or a million years? I'm not good with math.

I would question how long you've been a fan of this team if you think Lou is the best thing to happen to this team.

kosuke never hits against LHP, yet lou keeps leaving him in to face LOOGYs, who are in the game because of their proficiency in getting out LH batters. what the frick?

Its getting really ridiculous. He has no idea how to manage his bench, and take advantage of their strengths and weaknesses.

Good job using a PH for last years Rookie of the Year, so you could lay a sac bunt down when the team is having trouble to get hits Lou. Real smart

You know what's annoying with Lou?

"I don't know how to fix it. I don't have the answers"

Lou you are the manager of the team, you have to have answers. Or if you don't, at least BS us and tell us you do. Saying that you don't know how to make the Cubs play better is admitting that you don't know how to do your job. It makes him look incompetent and makes fans wonder who is leading this sinking ship.

Imagine if you were a sales manager at a company, where your job is to manage a sales team and help them sell a product, and your manager asks you why your branch's sales are so low and you say "I don't know, I don't have the answers" How long would you work there?

that's kind of silly. i'm ot a lou fan at all, but let's be honest. the manager can only control so much. lou is certainly making things worse, but ultimately it's up to the hitters to hit. he can do everything to help them, but if they suck, they suck. right now there isn't really anything he can do to get these guys hitting. it's up to the players.

I can see both sides of it. Lou can't make them do anything they don't want to do, they're grown men. But it just doesn't seem to me that Lou has taken his efforts to the next level, whatever that is, and thought outside the box. He's got the talent on this team, and if he can't figure it out, then maybe he can reach out to someone who can.

Does Fukudome have a history of sucking against LHP? Wasn't he a really good hitter in Japan? I wonder if Lou decided he can't hit LHP last year when Fukudome wasn't hitting anything and now just carried over that conclusion to this year. Would be nice to have a LH hitter than could stay in the game against LHP (or PH against LHP).

Lou is the mouthpiece for the team. When he sounds confused and perplexed it doesn't give fans (and possibly management and/or players) confidence that he's the right guy to lead the team. Now, will giving us some BS answer about how he is working with the players everyday, etc etc make the team play better? No probably not...its a rather trivial annoyance. But its something that definitely bothers me about his managing style.

In a way yes. If the leader of your team doesn't know what to do and doesn't seem to know if our problems will be fixed, how does that reflect on the team, who is obviously pressing? Now obviously we have no idea what goes on beyond closed doors, and I'm sure Lou isn't sitting there telling his players he has no confidence in them, but they definitely do hear what Lou says to the media too.

I seem to remember people saying that he likely would have normal splits but not be a terrible hitter against LHP.

I think Lou trusts Kosuke more than the other Cubs left-handers against LHP. You can see it by who he pinch-hits for more often in that situation. But Kosuke is going to have a hard time starting against many LHP because the Cubs have three OF's who all normally hit left-handers very, very well.

true.

i guess my biggest problem is that you're not going to have good success against LHP when your manager plays you very sparingly against them. to make it worse, kosuke tends to bat most frequently against LOOGYs in the middle innings before lou wants to make a change; most SP have less severe splits while a lot of the guys that kosuke ends up facing are pitchers who are in the major leagues simply due to their proficiency at getting LH batters out. so he ends up facing only difficult major league LHP, so of course he looks awful against them.
