Once he starts warming off, it's not longer an "off day" for him, so having him face one batter isn't a big deal.

It was no guarantee he was only going to face 1 batter. Also there is a difference between warming up, and coming in the game.

With that said, Id expect Marmol to close tonight, with Gregg not even being in the bullpen.

I doubt that. They might prefer not to use Gregg tonight but he'll be back there if they need him.

A month ago, he threw 4 straight days. 11 pitches, then 33, then 16, and then 12 more.

Tonight would be 4 straight days. But this time he's only thrown 22, then 4, then 4. Much lighter workload than a month ago when they threw him out there for the fourth day anyway.

Yeah, I can understand the desire as well. The point is over a 162 game season you need to bypass using your best relief options on occasion when the opportunity arises. So you overcome that short-term desire by thinking about the longterm ramifications.

Had Lou brought him in to start the inning up 4+ runs, I could see your long-term point a bit more. However, he brought him into a situation where he was unlikely to face more than a batter or two unless he imploded. The way he's pitched of late, an implosion was pretty unlikely, so I think it was an ok decision.

7th inning runner on 2nd, and you let Z hit, and then take him out. Are you really that [expletive] stupid Lou? Get a damn clue. I cant believe Fox didnt PH. Again, this teams terrible roster management is ridiculous.

This is my reaction to Lou's epic fail of not PH'ing Zambrano with Fox, then replacing Zambrano with Heilman.

I'm not watching. Was it that bad of a call? If Fontenot gets the bunt down, game over, right? Sometimes it makes sense to take a shot.

He couldnt find the strike zone, and the fact Font was hitting instead of Fox, who was already coming in the game, is asinine. Fox has a lot better chance to hit a fly ball to the OF and get the sac fly, then trying to execute a squeeze play with Wildthing Rick Vaughn on the mound. Horrible, horrible decision

It seems as though it would have been easier to hit a ball in play that would have scored one run in multiple at bats than it would be for a guy to lay down a bunt on one pitch when he doesn't do it that often.

That squeeze call just made no since.

Sure it makes sense but, not with someone who has trouble consistently getting his bat on the ball, let alone bunt. Quite probably the dumbest move Lou has made this year.

Of course, a walk off GS does fix those dumb-ass moves today!!!!!!!

He had just walked the bases loaded, there was a force at home, etc. etc.

Does anybody have the percentage of times an attempted suicide squeeze actually works? I'd like to compare that to the average percentage of success an MLB hitter has at scoring a runner from 3rd with less than 2 outs. I bet the latter has a bigger percentage.

It just feels like you're taking the game out of the hitter's control. If he throws a ball way out of the zone, there's nothing you can do. You have to rely on the pitcher to throw a strike. In the situation he's in, you shouldn't have to be rely on the other team doing something. You rely on your hitter to do his job (hit the ball out of the infield and on the infield in a good spot) and the game is over, period. There's nothing they can do.

Also, STOP [expletive] DOING THE HIT & RUN. This is twice now he's put on the hit and run with Soriano at the plate and Bradley at first with a full count. I'm trying to think of a worse hit and run combo on the Cubs than Bradley at first and Soriano at the plate and I can't really find one.

Seriously, how many times do you think a Cubs batter has struck out on ball 4 this year because he was trying to protect the plate too muchon a hit & run?

Sorry, but a panicky manager like Lou is not the correct fit for this organization.

this still was one of the worst managed games that we've played, and may still haunt us in some regards in terms of taxing the bullpen a bit too much

It's not a [expletive] hit and run and I can't figure out why people keep calling it that. He's just starting the runner, the batter isn't getting any sign. The batter's approach on pitches outside the zone shouldn't change.

It's still putting a runner (who can't run) in motion with a huge strikeout candidate at the plate.

Man, Lou was an idiot last night.

bradley made it to second safely, right? valverde takes forever to get to home plate. i don't have a problem sending the runner there.

i also can't believe people were flipping out about sending lee with ramirez at the plate and chris sampson on the mound. that's a no brainer.

and yeah, the squeeze is a stupid, stupid play.

The squeeze was idiotic. If Fontenot makes contact with a Valverde fastball (which he did), the run scores, game over.

The only time I'd squeeze is with Andres Blanco/Ryan Theriot up, 1 out, and the pitcher on deck. Otherwise, it has no place in the Cubs offense.
