Ryan Howard's splits in 2009:

RHP: .307/.387/.654/1.041

LHP: .194/.276/.315/.591

He's a platoon player if stats count for anything close to reputation. WHY IS MARMOL FACING HOWARD???

You show them Lou. Get pissy and act like a little bitch, but dont answer the tough questions from the Chicago media. Its alot easier to get pissy and act like a hard ass isnt it Lou? Heaven forbid you actually answer a tough, meaningful question. How dare they question you!

"You want to manage and lose five out of six and see how you feel?" Piniella, his voice rising, asked a reporter. "You come up here and you sit here and let me ask you the question and let me see what your emotions are."

Forget it. I'm kidnapping Gregg until the end of the season and hiding in Cuba.

Lou won't be able to trot him out there to blow the game if his picture's on the back of a milk carton.

There's a distinct chance the milk carton might do a better job. At the very least, none of the lactose-intolerant or dairy-allergic hitters will be able to touch him.

Aaron [expletive] Miles

needs to go far, far away. There is no reason whatsoever for him to remain on this team. When we first signed him, I didnt so much mind him as a piece on the team, but the contract didnt make sense. Why couldnt we get him or a similar player on a 1 year >1 million contract? Granted, I had no idea quite how bad hed be, but now that we know, theres no reason to keep him around. Bakers your starting 2B and can fill in at 3rd., Fontenots your backup 2B/3B and Blancos your backup 2B/SS. Fox can also play 3rd. Id rather have any of these guys at the plate than Miles. Just get rid of him.

I'm at the point where I'm not angry at Miles anymore. I know he sucks, he knows he sucks, everybody on the planet knows he sucks...exept for Lou. Why why why do you pinch hit him in a 2-2 game with the bases loaded? Is Lou saving Fox for a bigger situation?

Yeah. I'm not too sure about pulling Gorzo at that point. But, I'm not going to argue about it too much. However, if that's where you think you can do some damage, you've got to come with something better than Miles. Fox, Fuld and Soto were all available.

Hell, pinch hit Z before Miles... there's at very least a chance he'll knock it out if he gets a hold of one. Rich freakin' Harden has a better OPS and would have at least been fast enough to make the play at first a little interesting.

I can't even dream up a scenario that would be a better time to let Fox hit. It's pure insanity. Seriously, there was only way to make scoring in that situation less likely than letting the pitcher hit, and Lou managed to find it.

The only thing I could think of was that Lou thought that Miles was due, which he very much is. Or maybe he doesnt care any more and Miles was just the first guy he saw.

A guy being due may very well be the stupidest old timey baseball cliche there is. So yea, that's probably what Lou was thinking.

It would be nice if the beat reporters had the balls to grill Lou about crap like this, but he's bullied them into submission

It really doesn't matter. He'd just get all crotchety and defensive about having to "answer the same questions all the time" and whatnot. What's the point of continually asking him questions you know he won't answer?

This team needs Bobby Valentine. He may be hated by every player hes ever managed, but hed hold these guys accountable. He wouldnt just let Soriano play like crap and let it go, Bobby would have him begging to opt out of his contract if he didnt shape up. He wouldnt let Geovany Soto leave spring training looking like the Pillsbury Doughboy. Aaron Miles would be long gone. Kevin Gregg would be cowering in a corner.

Im saying Soriano would be begging to opt out. A lot of people dont quite know the extent of Bobby Vs reputation.

Don't underestimate Bobby V. He could scold a starving man out of his sandwich. Getting an old baseball player to walk away from $100m is nothing.

Catch-22: Geovany Soto sat for the second straight game Thursday night but will start Friday against left-hander Randy Wolf.

"When [Koyie] Hill was catching, we were winning a little more consistently," Piniella said. "With Soto, we need for him to start swinging the bat."

Got that guys? We were winning because of Koyie Hill.
