Why'd we trade DeRosa for 3 almost non-prospects again?

Money.

But aren't reports out there saying we have $9 million to spend to get to our rumored $140 million budget, and are currently looking for a utility player to backup the IF positions?

Even if that $9 million figure is incorrect, the fact that we are going to pay someone $2-3 million to backup 3B and 1B, while spending whatever we spent on Aaron Miles, it just doesn't make sense.

Hendry must have learned that the Padres aren't trading Peavy or that it is actually a longshot.

There were also rumors that the Cubs were at their payroll ceiling, and those rumors were roundly dismissed in favor of the ones that were more ... favorable.

It doesn't make a ton of sense, but it's right up Hendry's alley.

Depending on whether Hendry gets Peavy or not, he's either going to come out of this looking like a genius or an idiot. There is no in between.

I'm going to say idiot.

My coworker just told me he read an article the other day that suggested that the Padres aren't interested in Olsen anymore. I am not sure if it's true, as he usually doesn't scoop me on anything, its usually the other way around.

I give up. I normally go out of my way to try and defend Hendry on some of his crazier moves, but enough is enough already. Just give Cedeno to another team for free instead of including another chip with him.

Losses -- Wood, DeRosa, Pie, Cedeno, Marquis, Ward,

Additions -- Bradley, Miles, Heilman, Gregg, Gathright, Vizcaino

am i forgetting anyone? pretty rough offseason for the team that won 97 games last year

I can't believe this. Absoltely pathetic. Just when you think Hendry can't butcher an offseason any worse, he comes out of nowhere with another stupid ass trade. We just traded Pie/Cedeno/Williamson for Aaron Heilman. Aaron Heilman.

THis whole offseason has been a complete joke. First we trade away good players so we can "get more left handed" by signing crappy left handed hitters, then we overpay and give 30 million to a guy who is constantly hurt when nobody else is getting anything close to that.

LOL..The trade was just for this?? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Levine says the Cubs will sign backup catcher Paul Bako to a one-year, $750K deal once they clear a spot on the 40-man roster. The 2-for-1 Heilman trade takes care of that.

Maybe the Padres are just trying to screw with the Cubs now.

"You know who we really want for Peavy? Augie Ojeda!"

You mean to replace the injury-risk-filled 1/2 starters of a contender that doesn't exist?

=D>

I think we have plenty of pitching to absorb the loss and compete in the NL Central. PLENTY.

That's not saying much

I think it says enough.

i think it was more about getting heilman than getting rid of cedeno/pie. hendry has a long history of being interested in him.

Another excuse for me to hate Notre Dame?

Excellent.

This is why Hendry pisses me off to no end. Instead of keeping a top notch player at a higher salary(DeRosa) he instead signs and trades for mediocre players that when you add up their salary together it would have been best to keep the better player with his salary in the first place. I'd rather have DeRo over Miles, Heilman, and Bako.

I can't wait until Hendry is flabergasted when we're only 3 games over .500 at the break

I really don't see that happening. Not in our division.

Yet if we still trade for Jake Peavy this offseason would be great. Stop overreacting and relax people lets see what the roster looks like in April. Hendry has a plan, and right now the roster looks like a mess, but he's not done yet. Just because reports in the media say we need Olson to get Peavy, doesn't mean we do. Hendry isn't done yet.

I'm speechless. Way to ruin my day. This whole thing better be that we are trading for Peavy, giving up Marshall and keeping Vitters and Heilman is replacing Marshall. Then MAYBE that wouldn't be so bad.

Someone please make good Jim come back, not bad Jim who keeps destroying a winning team and replacing it with strange spare parts.

Levine mentioned that 3 teams where talking to the Cubs about Rich Hill, I am curious to see what kind of vaule he will for him.
