  1. I'm speechless. Way to ruin my day. This whole thing better be that we are trading for Peavy, giving up Marshall and keeping Vitters and Heilman is replacing Marshall. Then MAYBE that wouldn't be so bad. Someone please make good Jim come back, not bad Jim who keeps destroying a winning team and replacing it with strange spare parts.
  2. there was nothing fun or super about the Roberts thread Oh i disagree, I think from a retrospective standpoint its futility was quite hilarious.
  3. Can we just unlock the other thread and merge this? They both keep getting sidetracked (and will no matter what is done) and we could atleast have the fun of having one Roberts style super thread again...go back to seeing if we can beat last years thread.
  4. Don't get your hopes up too much. There was information he shared with mods that gave me the impression he may want to hold off on sharing that info beyond Friday. But, that's just my take. He may spill the beans tonight. Personally I hope he doesn't give it up tonight. While I don't post much, i read almost everything (including every page of this thread). From what i have read, he seems pretty reputable and I don't recall him ever just having spread rumors around. He seemed afraid that him telling may hurt the Cubs chances, so whatever it is, I think we should just respect his wishes (including those few that keep harassing him about it despite him being nice enough share what he can). DonnieD...buddy, i hope your right, but remember, no need to prove everyone right this minute. We can all wait until the time is right. And (assuming you are being truthful), thanks for sharing, I know I appreciate it.
  5. Psh, I would cheer too if a player we released came up to try to save the game for the other team.
  6. I got a better idea. What about Bonds? He is a free agent and is a better hitter the Griffey. He also would probably be very cheap and looking for a one year contract. Yes his defense is poor, but Fukudome and Soriano are more then fast enough to play CF and cheat over a little. And his bat more then makes up for any defensive shortcomings. I HATE the idea of Bonds in a cubs uniform, and I think the man did do some things that he should be punished for. However, in terms of playing baseball, he didn't do anything different then many other players. I probably should duck now...
  7. Amazing. Maybe I am missing something here, but isn't this the whole principle behind the BABIP stat? I know strike outs don't hurt you any more then a regular out, so that part is a little foolish, and it is quite amazing he didn't realize the struggles.
  8. I personally hope ESPN gives that story some coverage. I think Alou is just trying to get the blame off of the poor guy. I still to this day meet people who blame all of 2003 on him and entirely forget about Gonzalez or the rest of the poor decisions made in that infamous inning.
  9. Happy 300! First post in this one, yet I have read just about every page of this thread...so pathetic. And we can't lock this thread. What happens midseason when this trade is brought back up again? Can we unlock it then? At 200 i thought this thread was dying. If this is brought up again, i believe we can reach 400 :good:
  10. That was my first reaction as well. Tough call on which one is actually THE fat drunk.
  11. Hendry is not done tinkeling? Does this mean that Hendry is going to sign Alou again?
  12. Without turning this into a Sosa thread, Sosa was never convicted nor had as close a connection with Tejada that Palmero had.
  13. It's been a month since the release of the Mitchell report, and i find it interesting no one is mentioning the fact that Raffael Palmero was not mentioned in the report. This has only been made more interesting by the fact that Tejada was mentioned, and now is under investigation for lying to federal agents. Looking at the facts: Palmero was never expected to have the power he developed Palmero left baseball after his failed test for steroids. Palmero accused Tejada of giving him a shot of B12 that was not B12...turns out Tejada did do steroids. Palmero was investigated for perjury charges, none which stuck because of lack of evidence. Now i know the Mitchell report is not comprehensive and did not go into details of all past users. But you would think that someone who was investigated for lying to congress would be mentioned...after all, Bonds and Giambi (not that Giambi lied to congress) are both in the report. Does this give any support to Palmero, or are the odds still stacked against him? Personally, i think he did do steroids. He never was suppose to hit for the power he gained, and the odds that Tejada gave him a bad shot are pretty slim. The timing of Palmero's failed test is interesting though. You would think that Palmero would be extra careful about what he put into his body after the congressional hearing. Any thoughts?
  14. Viagra is still legal in MLB? I mentioned this earlier...i find it very interesting that Tejada is on the list and that Raffy isn't.
  15. What is really interesting: Raphael Palmeiro is not on the list, but Miguel Tejada is.
  16. I disagree, 1. If they asked for Zambrano, we could simply laugh. 2. Even the Yankees have expressed interest in shedding some payroll and adding some budding stars. Or at least keeping their own. The Yankees organization isnt familiar with the term "shedding payroll". I was more leaning towards "cost conscience" more this year than they've ever been. 2 years ago i would believe that. Same with last year. But the Yankees are being anything but "cost conscience" this year. Arod is getting 27.5 million for 10 years (with incentives that can push it over 30 million Rivera is getting 15 million for 3 years Posada is getting 13 million for 4 years. And those signings just occurred within the past month.
  17. You save 21M by trading for him and just extending him because TX would still be on the hook. 1. I thought texas only paid for the first few years and that this was the last year of the payment. 2. You would have to pay dearly to stop Arod from testing the market. I know that the cubs save 21 million (unless point 1 is right), but is the money really saved when you view rest of the market? Aram has a good contract (relatively), and the market is in one of the high end upswings right now. I think financially, in the long run for most GM's, it makes more sense to just wait, pay the extra few million and keep your star players. Especially if they are young stars who could offset the cost of Arod initially. EDIT: Just looked it up...Point 1 is wrong. Texas is still paying for him.
  18. No GM in their right mind should trade for Arod, because Arod SHOULD opt out of his contract. If he does NOT opt out, then he will be 35 when he gets his next payday. Considering the condition he keeps himself in, i imagine it would still be a 15-20 mill/year payday. If he opts out now, he is coming off a historic season and is only 32. His value now is 20-30 mill/year. He will probably get a very similar contract (25/8-10) that he got earlier. That financially makes more sense, and allows him to pick his team. He even could go 20/8-10 and have an even wider selection of teams. His value will not be higher in the next 3 years then it is now, and if you subtact Torre and Arod from the Yankees, and consider that the free agent pitching class is weak (and the yankees pitching is a problem), then that has to make Yankees not a favorite for a WS ring (or even appearance) .
  19. Sign Arod, put Theriot at 2nd, move Dero to the OF, trade Jones, play Pie Sign Arod, put Theriot at Util, Dero to 2nd, Play Pie, play a Jones/Murton platoon. If we got the payroll for that, i'd be ok with either...i'd prefer the later though because Dero doesnt have quite the bat for a Corner OF spot, and midseason a Dunn trade (haha i'm really in fantasy land now) would be great.
  20. he HRed last night, so no. So your telling me he is hot right now?
  21. Common Atlanta, atleast make this game last a few more innings. With no more off days for Milwakee, one of the best things that can happen for us is for the Brewers to have a tired pen.
  22. Calling it now Walk off by Teixeira
  23. I really would be ok with just walking Fielder...
