I admittedly don't know all that much about the guys who will be in the second round but I'm looking for a OL. Just by perusing some draft sites I'm seeing Jamon Meredith, Steven Beatty and Phil Loadholt among OT and Andy Levitre, Trevor Canfield and Kraig Urbik among the OG.

Any of these guys worthy of being picked in this spot?

Max Unger, a center who can play guard, is probably better than all of them. I also don't think Beatty and Meredith are terrible reaches here.

I like Meredith personally.

The Raiders select Jamon Meredith, an OT out of South Carolina.

He's raw and needs a little development, but I like his potential quite a bit.

I have PM'd Mark_R and Flames for Green Bay's pick.

Packers can do a couple of things here. Larry English is still on the board and he could be another 3-4 hybrid guy. After his combine though, he's more of a down lineman on the 3-4 because his times weren't spectacular for a LB. With our draft pick of Everette Brown in the first round, I think English could play more on the line and then you can have Brown be one of the rushing OLB's. A front seven of English-Pickett-Jenkins-Brown-Barnett-Hawk-Kampman sounds real good.

If you don't want to do that, you could also pick an OT to help bring into the fold because Clifton isn't getting any younger and Tauscher has been injury-prone the last few seasons, not to mention he's getting up there in years too. William Beatty from UConn makes a lot of sense to me. Those are my two ideas. Let's here what you have, Mark.

I don't see the need for a hybrid 3-4 if Brown comes aboard. Larry English's peripherals don't look so hot for a position where you're going to need a quick burst off the edge to rush the passer. Add in the fact that the Pack still have plenty of FA money to spend on a 3-4 guy (Jason Taylor?), that OT is clearly their biggest need at this point. With that in mind, the Packers will select, William Beatty from UConn.

Sorry about Britton

Eben Britton went at 21 to the Eagles.

The first round is in spoiler tags in dew's OP.

Although Larry English had a poor Combine he still is either a 4-3 DE or 3-4 OLB. He is way too small to play DE in the 3-4. During the Combine Mike Mayock broke down some video of English and determined that his style of play was almost identical to LaMarr Woodley's.

William Beatty is an ideal selection for the Packers' second round draft pick. Of all the second tier OTs he is my favorite. His athleticism is also ideal for the zone blocking scheme the Packers run, even though there are talks of phasing it out next season.

The only other player that I would have preffered over Beatty would have been Jarron Gilbert, DE out of San Jose St. The Packers are thin at DE and he would have been perfect for the one gap 3-4 that the Packers are planning to implement.

Good value at this point in the draft.

I have PMed EhDubya.

Sorry felllas, had to work late then my internet didn't want to work when I finally got home. EhDubya PMd me his pick in case he wasn't around. Here's what he said.

The Bills could really use a Center, but there isn't one here that I'd feel confident in taking to plug in right away as a starter. They will probably go free agent route, and if available, I could see them taking a player like A.Q. Shipley from Penn State in a later round to groom for the position or provide depth.

That said, a lot of pundits felt that Buffalo would use the #11 pick on another position of need, Tight End. Brandon Pettigrew was thought to be that pick, but slow times in the combine has hurt his stock, and a DE was taken instead. If he falls to them in the second round, they will take him and not look back. Especially now that T.O. has been signed for 2009-10, having a Tight End stretch the field isn't that high of a priority. Pettigrew can worry about his assignments and occasionally exploit the seams when defenses are worrying about other, more dangerous players.

Adding a Tight End with elite potential gives the Bills offense a scary vibe to it and along with Marshawn Lynch/Fred Jackson, Lee Evans, Terrell Owens, and Roscoe Parrish, gives Trent Edwards some weapons to work with that any young QB would love to have.

So the pick here is TE Brandon Pettigrew from OK St. I'll PM jame.gumb and CubbieBum.

Well I don't get to have the official vote as Jame makes it but I believe Larry English topped the list he sent me and the list I sent him i.e. he should be the selection. If by noon tomorrow Jame hasn't posted I would say go ahead with that pick.

Right on. With the 43rd pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select...

Larry English, DE/OLB, Northern Illinois University

SF finally takes a WILL for their 3-4 on the first day. He'll rotate with surprise Parys Haralson for most of his first season and take over full time next season. As someone already said, English reminds a lot of people of PIT OLB Lamar Woodley.

Alright, Warpticon has been MIA for about 27 hours now, so I guess I'll make the pick.

He had mentioned previously that the Dolphins needed to shore up their lines, especially the interior. He said he didn't go that route in the first round because guys at that point would have been a reach. At this point, though, most of those guys are still around, including one who I think is a very good value in the later stages of the early second round.

So, with the 44th pick in the draft, the Dolphins select offensive lineman Max Unger from Oregon. Unger was a center with the Ducks, but has the versatility to move out to guard or even tackle. He's big (6'4", 309) and quite athletic. He should at least beef up the Dolphins' depth wherever they would put him, if not start somewhere on the line.

Skyballer and I are now up with the next pick. I think I know where he wants to go, but I'll give him some time to make the pick himself. I'll PM him.

Good pick. IIRC, he's Mayock's top center.

I knew there was no way he'd fall to the Bears but that's who I really wanted.

Yeah, I like Unger and Mack quite a bit. I'll be a little bit surprised if either makes it out of the first round in the actual draft.

There's a good chance both will be taken as guards before the actual guards are selected.

Nice pick. That's exactly who I would have picked if I didn't have a shady connection that requires me to sit on the ground in just the right position to make it.
