I can't believe another team didn't put in a claim on him.

Baseball "people" are so myopic sometimes. The guy is a game changer almost every time he makes contact with the baseball.

If only that happened more frequently.

I am laughing so hard at the Reds. Dusty Ball, catch it! He's going to have the worst punch-and-Judy-no-walk-line-up in baseball.

They've already quit on him, according to "the Cowboy". Maybe they're getting rid of the malcontents.

The only team in the playoff hunt that could've claimed him before Arizona was LA. Dunn's a Free Agent after the year.

Does the team have to be in the playoff hunt to claim him? I thought any team could claim him but the team with the worst record gets him.

Anybody could claim him, but what's the point of the Pirates paying him the remainder of his contract this year to finish last?

Both offensively and defensively.

This makes me want the Dodgers to win that division even more now.

Seconded.

We're in for one hell of a tough time if we face the DBacks in the first round again, home field advantage or not.

Go Dodgers!

Dunn is second to only Carlos Lee in Cub-killerdom and would be a depressing move for the Cubs sake. Dunn will hit at least 2 HRs against us in the NLDS if he does in fact go to Arizona.

Obviously from a pitching perspective the Cubs would be better off facing LA. But I'd be more worried about Manny than Dunn offensively.

Manny is loads better than Dunn, granted. But that's really LA's only HUGE threat to us.

Arizona would have 3 pitchers who could shut us (or anyone else) down at any time, plus Cub Killers in Chris Young and Mike Schmidt Jr (Dunn). I don't fear LA's pitching as much as I fear Arizona's.

This is bad news for us.

The Cubs are better than the Diamondbacks.

The loss to the Diamondbacks last year in the playoffs was a fluke. Flukish things do tend to happen in the playoffs, sweep or not.

That said, I'd obviously rather not face Webb and Haren in a playoff series, if given the choice, but with Z and Harden to counter them, I'm not exactly shaking in my boots (er, my adidas... I don't really wear boots).

First: In the matter of a few days, the Cubs no longer have to face either Carlos Lee or Adam Dunn (plus no Bay) for the rest of the season. Which means unless the Cubs go "Epic Failure", the Cubs should win the division easily, now.

Second: It sucks that Cub Killer Dunn is now with one of the teams that loves to kill the Cubs. Which means we must become bandwagon Dodgers fans. And seeing the Dodgers are 5-7 against the D'Backs, there still hope that they can outlast the DBacks. But if not, we have to just "do our thing," and not worry who we are potentially facing in the playoffs.

Nonetheless I won't worry about the DBacks if or when the Cubs have to face them in the playoffs.

I wouldn't concede the title to the Cubs yet... Brewers still have 7 against the Padres, 9 against the Pirates, 3 against the Reds, and 3 against the Astros

Regardless if its as the division champ or the wild card, we are going to the playoffs.

This is a net loss for the Cubs. The Reds with or without Dunn aren't going to impact our shot at the playoffs. The Dbacks with Dunn are most likely going to impact our shot at getting to the WS.

Compensation picks.

I knew when they hired Bazasi (sp) it would be a good thing for us Cub fans.

I would not be surprised if the Dunn was acquired for the sole purpose that he's a Cub killer. Sometimes I think that's how certain franchises build their teams. "hmmm..what Cub killers are available?"

That's a good point. It's not like we're throwing a scrub rotation out there or anything. Zambrano, Harden, and Dempster is better than Webb, Haren and Johnson. I'd still rather face the Dodgers though.

When did Adam Dunn morph into the most feared hitter of all time? He can be pitched to, although it is clear the Cubs have yet to figure that out.

I doubt he makes as big an impact as some are claiming.

He's a nice piece to have, a slugger with some pretty big holes in his swing.

Agreed!

Webb owns us, Haren is really good, and Johnson has that little 1.000 winning percentage against us to contend with. And now they have Dunn.

I am now terrified of Arizona, reasonable or not.

He has a 1.012 career OPS against the Cubs which includes 38 homers.

Atleast from a Cubs perspective he should be feared.

Interesting to see in about the same amount of games/at bats against the Cardinals he has a career .832 OPS with 25 homers.

Who is saying he's the most feared hitter of all time? Adding Dunn is a pretty big improvement for Arizona, as big an individual improvement as any team could reasonably expect to get midseason.

Just look at his br.com comparables, the most similar hitter is Pat Burrell, the most similar by age is Darryl Strawberry. He's easily the most productive hitter on their team now, and would quite possibly be the most productive hitter in any Cubs/DBacks series. He's not somebody who is going to turn Arizona into a 95 win team, but he's definitely somebody you worry about in any 5 or 7 game series.

I respect the DBacks, and what they have done to the Cubs, but I am not terrifed of the DBacks. This Cubs team is different then Cubs teams in the past in that they don't allowed themselves to get initimadated by anybody or team.

Nobody said winning the World Series would be easy, and anybody who thought the road would be easy, was simply delusional.

The DBack can be beaten, and the Cubs have the talent and swagger to beat them. But the question is, will the DBacks even make the playoffs? My money is still on the Dodgers, but the Backs---witht he acquisition of Dunn---made their chances better.

I am not worried about it until we clinch a playoff birth.

After that, well it is supposed to be hard. Stupid LA.

That shouldn't suprise us, look at the crap we ran to the mound in '06. That had to help his numbers.

Reds GM is every bit as bad as Dusty, I see.

I can't believe that is all he received for Dunn.

It seems that Jockety's hands were tied since there wasn't much interest. So, he got some minor league talent which I think is a good way for the Reds to go.
