Reds GM is every bit as bad as Dusty, I see.

I can't believe that is all he received for Dunn.

It seems that Jockety's hands were tied since there wasn't much interest. So, he got some minor league talent which I think is a good way for the Reds to go.

The compensation picks would've been better.

When did Adam Dunn morph into the most feared hitter of all time? He can be pitched to, although it is clear the Cubs have yet to figure that out.

I doubt he makes as big an impact as some are claiming.

He's a nice piece to have, a slugger with some pretty big holes in his swing.

Who is saying he's the most feared hitter of all time? Adding Dunn is a pretty big improvement for Arizona, as big an individual improvement as any team could reasonably expect to get midseason.

Just look at his br.com comparables, the most similar hitter is Pat Burrell, the most similar by age is Darryl Strawberry. He's easily the most productive hitter on their team now, and would quite possibly be the most productive hitter in any Cubs/DBacks series. He's not somebody who is going to turn Arizona into a 95 win team, but he's definitely somebody you worry about in any 5 or 7 game series.

It just seems to me that there is a flood of posts suggesting that they would rather face LA in a possible playoff matchup. Well, that was the case before this trade. Arizona should be feared because of their very good 1-2 combo of Webb/Haren.

I'd be more worried about their pitching than their offense. Dunn is hot and cold. He could also very likely do nothing in a 5-7 game series. He's a good power hitter.

I honestly think either team would be a difficult matchup. I think Chad Billingsley is very underrated and Lowe has a history of handling the Cubs as well.

Just have to wait and see and hope the Cubs get an opportunity to solve that problem.

I wouldn't concede the title to the Cubs yet... Brewers still have 7 against the Padres, 9 against the Pirates, 3 against the Reds, and 3 against the Astros

Not to nitpick, but Milwaukee actually has 6 games remaining against Cincinnati, and all are in September when the Cubs are mostly on the road (Sept. 8-10 & Sept. 19-21).

And while it's not quite as worrysome now, St. Louis also still has 9 games vs. Cincinnati remaining (Aug. 15-17, Sept. 16-18, & Sept. 26-28).

This is bad news for the Cubs, any way you slice it. Still, put me in the camp that says Dunn can be pitched to. Keep runners off base in front of him (a' la Pujols), and his solo shots won't kill us.

Geez, September is going to be one tough month ...

I'd have to imagine this is the least value the current HR leader has been traded for since Ruth (Dunn's not as valuable as your typical HR leader, but still). Unless the 2 PTBNL are top prospects, I find it hard to believe that the Reds couldn't get better value before the trade deadline.

what a truly awful trade by the reds.

very excited about all the terrible articles that will be written about dunn over the next couple days though.

Anybody curious about how the vast parks in the West will affect Dunn?

I haven't checked to see how many games vs the West the DBacks still have, but if they play a few more in places like Petco and Dodger Stadium, Dunn's power may not be as prodigious as it was in the Central.

Or it may still be, I'm not sure. Just throwing it out for discussion.

I'm liking those Arizona, Los Angeles and San Fran numbers. Hopefully he'll repeat those the rest of the way.

Thanks for the info Tiger.

I do not know how the PTBNL works out, but is there any chance that the 2 PTBNL are whoever the DBacks pick with the compensations picks? I'm guessing not since you can't trade a drafted player until a year after they sign but I'm just trying to figure out a way this makes since for the Reds.

It makes sense if it's Jarrod Parker or another good prospect that is being waited on depending if the D-Backs make the playoffs. It probably won't be though.

It's also possible the PTBNL are guys on the 40-man that the Dbacks couldn't slip past waivers.

that's what i was going to say, two ptbnl's in a trade like this one just smacks of waiting to send them the decent prospects when allowed to do so.
