It would be nice for the Cubs to run away with it, but that kind of thing rarely happens.

It'd be nice to be in the Cardinals' or Yankees' shoes for once.

We shall get that chance this season.

This reminds me so much of 2004 when every smart guy on here was like oh don't worry about the asrtos the cubs have this thing wrapped up.

That wasn't me in 2004. Oh well.

I really thought that the pitch selection to Ankiel was bad. After Wood got ahead of him with a slider for strike one, he went back to the same pitch and hung it. I think high 90's gas was in order, especially with the shadows. Hindsight? Maybe. However, I think Wood did Ankiel a favor by speeding up his bat with that hanging slider.

No big deal, win the series tomorrow and still gain a game on them overall. Wood pitched his ass to get to two outs with a 1 run lead to see it wasted on that hanging slider bothers me the most. I am pleased that from now till the end of August they will play a lot more games at home and during that run, I'm hoping they can stay somewhat healthy and pull away.

I still expect them to be 7 games up going into Sept.

On the other hand, that was the second straight at bat where Ankiel looked completely awful against good sliders from RHP. Marmol threw 3 of them and Ankiel only barely made contact with one, then Wood started the same way.

Tough loss. But at least we can all be happy for the Cardinal fans, right?

No, we aren't the best fans in baseball.

I'll just say this:

"Hey FOX, nobody cares about your pathetic black-out Saturday baseball games. I can count on one hand the amount of West Coast people that even tuned into your Boston/New York game today, and I wasn't one of them. I know of a place where you can shove the rest of this season's broadcasts."

Surprisingly, I wasn't too upset after today's loss. Wood was due for an outing like this soon anyways. I wish it would've been against any other team, but oh well. Can't win them all. Let's just hope Marshall pitches well tomorrow.

I hope this was your intention. Cardinal fans dont deserve happiness. They deserve the miserable lives they lead.

Why? It's not their fault their favorite team is good.

Astro fans, on the other hand. . .

reminds me more of 1969 when everyone was like "oh the mets, who are they? just some crappy expansion team!!!" then damned if they didn't win the world series!

There' a little difference between the '69 Mets and these Cardinals, the Mets had the likes of Tom Seaver and Jerry Koosman in their rotation. Nolan Ryan in middle relief amongst others, the Cardinals and their collection of converted RP and failed SP's don't come within a light year of that Mets' pitching.

So do any of our resident stat masters have Woods record when he walks or hits the leadoff guy?

Sure, that's easy, I know that stat without even looking it up: irrelevant.

So there's no correlation between wildness and giving up runs?

You can't walk accross the plate. Dude.

Obviously when you allow baserunners, especially to lead off an inning, you are going to put yourself in a worse position to win the game. I was probably being a bigger jerk than I should have been , but what difference does it make what his record is when he hits/walks the leadoff guy? He's in worse shape to convert the save, thats all that really needs to be said. I was still irked about the game and bringing up another arbitrary statistic such as that just adds to the doom and gloom around here. It's not like it's some magical act that causes Woody to break down into tears on the mound.

it would be nice if he'd stop blowing saves against division opponents.

just blow them against teams that aren't fighting the cubs for the division, kerry.

turns out the only significance of taking 2/3 instead of 3/3 is that the cardinals' fall to 10+ games back is just postponed a few weeks.

Happens to all of us.

i still think we're losing at least 4 or 5 out of 6 at home against two lousy teams

We'll lose 2 of the next 6, max. No Volquez or Lincecum. The matchups are all favorable.

I don't know the matchups for the Giants series, but the Reds series is tailor made for a sweep. Obviously, looking good on paper doesn't mean everything, but I like our chances.
