So do any of our resident stat masters have Woods record when he walks or hits the leadoff guy?

Sure, that's easy, I know that stat without even looking it up: irrelevant.

So there's no correlation between wildness and giving up runs?

You can't walk accross the plate. Dude.

In theory, all stats are irrlevant. Just because a hitter has 50 home runs, doesnt mean hes going to hit a hom run. If a pitcher has 20 wins, hes not going to neccessarily get a win.

well, my soul is crushed. that's for sure.

but i am going to spend the evening wondering why you defend against the bunt up two in the ninth inning like the cubs did today. and wonder why jim edmonds can't jog at a moderately high rate of speed (for a jog, mind you) on fly balls to the outfield.

God I effing hate heartbreaking losses in day games, especially on weekends. Completely ruins your night. I don't even want to go out now.

I was eating some top notch taco bell when the game ended and it caused a perfectly good burrito to go to waste. What a shame.

The only way to get over it is to go get a hooker

Then some Heroin, I mean a ton of it

Then shoot a little while she waits

Then Kill her before she gets any

I promise after this you won't even think about this game again.

I was thinking "why did it have to be Ankiel that beat us?" But then I realized that Pujols and Glaus are the only ones that wouldn't make me think "wtf, how did that happen."

At least all the other ones have been exclusively position players in the major leagues.

Another annying aspect of the game is how right after it ended, FOX went to the Yankees game, and Mariano Rivera had the bases loaded with 1 out, and got out of it. It was almost FOX telling us "now watch the master at work."

And speaking of stats, does anyone else find it odd that on a team build for power, a guy who has had 2 DL stints and has been out about a month now is still tied for the lead in home runs?

he couldn't jog at a moderately high rate of speed because he was too busy staring at the right fielder, hoping he would toss the ball to the cutoff man, thus negating the need for jim to make an effort.

that play made no sense at all. i can't believe it was close at all.

You always have to ask. That is like common sense. Even if she was a cop though. Why not follow through with the rest of the plan?

Yeah, the only thing better than killing nasty hookers is killing cops posing as nasty hookers.

Wholeheartedly disagree. How could you not want to go out to forget about it?

Yep, cause nasty hookers are the best thing ever. Anyone who pretends to be one in order to get you in trouble deserves to go down.

Letting one slip away like this to the second-place team in the division burns more than most, no doubt about it.

But as others have said, there's 70-odd games to go and you'll have heartbreaking losses along the way. That's baseball. A few months from now, when Woody nails mows down the final three batters in the WS clincher, we'll look back at this one and the McLouth homer etc. and have a good chuckle. There's a game tomorrow. Another one Tuesday, and the day after.... This Cubs team ain't goin' away.

So yeah, this puts a damper on my evening, and I'll be having a couple extra to ease the sting. But on balance, I foresee many more exhilarating wins than tough losses ahead for the Cubs.

It would be nice for the Cubs to run away with it, but that kind of thing rarely happens.

Face it, we're in for a major dog fight with SL and Milwaukee. It'll be fun. . . . frustrating at times, but fun.

At the end of the day, it's still a game meant for our entertainment.

edmonds really needs to come out for a defensive replacement in the 9th inning... reed johnson is not great but he's better than edmonds out there.

I really think Lou believe Edmonds is still a great defender.

It'd be nice to be in the Cardinals' or Yankees' shoes for once.

It could still happen. The Cubs have the talent (when everyone is healthy) to reel off another 12 out of 15 or something similar. I don't know if the Brewers or Cardinals have that possibility right now.

But you're right, going wire to wire would be great. Of course, there's the argument that cruising in September / October is bad news. . .. players aren't on their toes, etc.

We shall get that chance this season.

This reminds me so much of 2004 when every smart guy on here was like oh don't worry about the asrtos the cubs have this thing wrapped up.
