If Z's out for the season, it doesn't even seem worth watching anymore.

I don't feel this way at all

We are 10-6 in games that Zambrano started- good for a .625 winning percentage

We are 35-22 in games not started by Zambrano- good for a .614 winning percentage

A .614 winning percentage is still good for #1 in MLB

Luckily the Cubs have had Gallagher quietly shore up the #5 spot in the rotation.

I'm more worried about the #1 spot in the rotation.

DXL is "Days eXpected Lost", or how many days I am estimating the player will lose.

The dollar figure after the slash is "Injury Cost," an estimation of how much value is lost that is determined by dividing the player's PECOTA-calculated value by 180, then multiplying by the DXL. It's calculated in millions of US dollars.

The estimate is $1M lost for 15days of Z.

So why are we freaking out and talking about him being out for the season? That seems very low. So he misses 3 starts instead of 1 or 2. As long as we play .500 ball during that time period, we'll be fine.

because will caroll isn't a doctor, he's not examining zambrano, he says he's not sure yet how long zambrano will be out and that the injury cost seems low.

Bruce says Randy Wolf could be a target if Zambrano is lost for a long time.

Link.

If Big Z is out, the Cubs will pluck somebody out of the minors, probably Sean Marshall. And then, GM Jim Hendry will go to work trying to acquire a starter. Randy Wolf, the Padres' lefty, could be a prime target. The Padres have liked Cubs outfielder Matt Murton, so maybe Hendry can put together some sort of package for Wolf. Even if Z isn't badly hurt, the Cubs are still going to need another starting pitcher, and manager Lou Piniella would love another lefty.

WGN Radio just said Harden was at the top of the cubs list before Z's shoulder issue came up.

:beg:

I would LOVE to get Harden...but having Hendry trying to work a deal with Billy Beane scares me.

A's get: everything.

Cubs get: money saved from shutting down the AAA and AA ballclubs for a year. And Harden.

Considering we don't have prospects I'm scared of losing, dealing with Beane bothers me less than usual. My guess is Beane would buy low and get Hill along with some other players he could either keep or spin elsewhere. My guess is Billy would end up with Hill + Pie + Ceda.

Think Beane wants Pie or would try to move him elsewhere? Doesn't seem like a "Billy-boy" type of player to me.

I could see him wanting to at least get Hill into the system to see what can be done with him.

A super athletic top prospect that struggled in limited at bats and got forgotten by a pretty dumb organization and can be had for cents on the dollar is a perfect beane player

Beane and Hendry have made good trading partners in the past, both have made deals that turned out better for one(Barrett/Miller) or the other(Kendall/Blevins). Personally, I'd love Harden, although his injury history is long enough that his price should be less than Hill+Pie+Ceda.
