The title of the thread says "MRI Scheduled", but then there is no info on when it is scheduled for. Did he already have it done?

And did he open the car door with his left hand or his right hand?

To be honest, I couldn't even see. Despite his Mercedes being a sedan, it's actually rather tall. The driver's side was on the opposite side of the car. I didn't see him favor his arm at all, but with this injury, he probably wouldn't even if it was bad.

As for the MRI, all I heard was that he was having it today. I'd imagine that he would have taken it in the morning, but he may very well not have had it yet.

Also, one critical piece of information: Zambrano left carrying something in a white bag that they use in the Wrigley Field stores.

Could it have been Mike Fontenot stuffed in a bag? I mean he does the "hammer him into the ground" thing for good luck before starts. Maybe he's superstitious and wants him at the MRI?

I did stand 20 feet from Zambrano today and you didn't.

that's nothing, I was surrounded by 800 pound women at Old Country Buffet today

all you had to say is that you went to old country buffet; the 800 lb thing is implied if you say that.

This may be a blessing. I know 2003 was a long time ago but if you recall Z was pretty tough that year but seemed to run out of gas at the end. I think that if they DL'd him or he was out for a month he may come back and be more effective than if he'd never been injured at all.

My personal feeling is that this will be the case and the cubs will still be in first place when he returns.

If they hold him out of a start or two, it could be a blessing in disguise. If he has to go on the DL for a month, I don't see any upside to that.

If there's any damage in there that puts him out for a significant length of time, it's over. We won't win the division without Z, and if we do back into the playoffs and he's still out, we're toast. He is the most important player on the team right now.

someone just shoot erik here and put him out of his Cubs-induced misery. I'm surprised he's not catatonic by now

The simple fact that Zambrano was driving is a good sign, IMO.

Not necessarily. Zambrano usually drives hands-free thanks to "Li'l Big Z."

In HS, we had fat cheerleaders. When they'd go out, the crowd apparently (I was rarely at events short of mandatory pep rallies and crap like that) would chant OCB.

Sort of mean, I guess.

Well, the way he got out of the parking lot turning south onto Clark, I'd say that he probably wasn't driving with just his left hand.

Yea, it is mean that your HS allowed fat cheerleaders.

They had no choice. Somehow, my grade was cursed. We were terribly screwed in that dept. The freshman girls when I was a senior, though, were amazing.

I hate waiting.

I'm the guy who will take back roads to avoid the traffic jam on the highway, even if I've proven it is actually still faster to sit in the traffic jam. Just feels like more waiting.

Must know. Soon.

It just occurred to me they might wait until after the game to announce the results. And it also occurred to me that's not a real good thing.

Why wait until after the game?

It would leak out before.

Apparently they're not doing the MRI until Friday.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- While Carlos Zambrano was suffering from shoulder discomfort in Tampa Bay on Wednesday night, Triple-A Iowa pitcher Kevin Hart survived a scary incident in which he was hit in the head by a line drive in the third inning of a 5-3 win over New Orleans.

Iowa manager Pat Listach told the Des Moines Register Hart suffered a concussion and “obviously is going to be out for a while.”

Raul Casanova’s liner hit Hart in the back of the head, knocking him down. Hart laid motionless on the field for a few minutes while he was attended to by the team trainer.

The coincidence of Hart and Zambrano going down on the same night was eerie, as Hart was possibly in line to replace Zambrano if the Cubs right-hander has to miss his next start with a possible shoulder strain.

Zambrano was examined by Cubs orthopoedist Stephen Gryzlo on Thursday in Chicago, and was scheduled to have an MRI on his shoulder on Friday, sources said. Zambrano said after Wednesday’s game he hoped the problem was just tendinitis, in which case he could rest for a start or two while taking anti-inflammatories to reduce the swelling.

The Cubs had no update on Zambrano as of late Thursday afternoon in St. Pete. They’re likely to wait for the results of Zambrano’s MRI before making an announcement, so the news may have to wait until Saturday.

Zambrano is next scheduled to pitch on Tuesday against Baltimore are Wrigley Field, though that start appears to be out of the question at this point.

For the record, Lou did say in the postgame that the MRI would be done Friday, so we shouldn't read anything into this. Bruce Levine also said on ESPN 1000 that he'll miss "at least one start".

I'd be very happy if he only missed a few starts.

Why not go ahead and do the MRI today?

my MRI had to be scheduled about 3 weeks out. why should some dude from Venezuela get preferential treatment?

Hahaha, don't get me started.

To not affect the team with the news right before they take the field.

Anyway, weekend it is. At least I know not to wait around.
