Listening to the WGN pre game with Lou, it sounds like they dont know much. Zs still feeling slight shoulder discomfort, and he'll definitely miss his next start, but it could just be pushed back a few days. They dont think its that serious, but they wont know until he has the test tommorow.

I'm as big of a fan as anyone here, but as I've said before when following the Cubs: Hope for the best, but expect the worst.

That sounds like just a miserable way to be a fan.

ST. PETERSBURG -- While he had no news to report on Carlos Zambrano’s shoulder Thursday, Lou Piniella confirmed that Zambrano will miss his scheduled start on Tuesday against Baltimore.

Left-hander Sean Marshall, who pitches tonight in Iowa, is the likely call-up to take Zambrano’s start, Piniella said.

I've just been hurt too many times by this team to where it doesn't even hurt anymore. I'm just kinda numb to the whole thing.

most of your posts the last couple of days would seem to belie this notion

The title of the thread says "MRI Scheduled", but then there is no info on when it is scheduled for. Did he already have it done?

And did he open the car door with his left hand or his right hand?

remember he is a switch hitter

Sweet, howd we gain the other 2.5?

Because the Brewers are the team that we're holding off, not the Cardinals.

+1

Cards just showed what they really are.

YAY ROYALS....sweep....sweep...sweep. :yahoo:

I'm not sure if this means something less ordinary is going on...

He was initially set to have an MRI exam Thursday, but the Cubs decided to instead schedule an MRI arthrogram, a test in which dye is injected into the problem area to provide a more detailed look.

"To provide a more detailed look" does not at all sound encouraging to me.

Why wouldn't they do an arthrogram, though? They already decided that he was going to skip at least one start, so there aren't any time constraints in regards to the dye.

Didn't Prior's shoulder problems turn out to be more serious than the traditional MRIs suggested, since they basically opened him up and found a lot more damage than they thought was there?

Maybe this is being done to prevent something like that from happening again.

A bit of research reveals that MRA (vs. MRI) is more sensitive for the diagnosis of labrum and rotator cuff injury. (Thanks to Will Carroll for confirming the sensitivity question.) Hopefully this is just extreme caution, but you wonder if the exam revealed something more likely to involve the above issues rather than something like tendonitis.

oh my god...i might wake up and buy a bottle of jack tomorrow
Go with Woodford Reserve or Bulleit. Real bourbon is much better stuff. I'll be cracking a bottle of Bulleit myself if we lose tomorrow.

yeah...i want to win as much as the next fan...but in my mind...the only thing that really matters right now is the health of carlos zambrano

Totally. That's all I'm worried about right now and it's driving me crazy. We better find out tomorrow... I don't know how much more of this waiting I can take. Sullivan made it sound like we might not hear the official results until Saturday, but I'd imagine something will leak tomorrow.

I googled anthogram and found this:

An arthrogram is used to:

Find problems in your joint capsule, ligaments, cartilage (including tears, degeneration, or disease), and the bones in the joint. In your shoulder, it may be used to help find rotator cuff tears and the cause of a frozen shoulder.

Find abnormal growths or fluid-filled cysts.

Confirm that a needle has been placed correctly in your joint before joint fluid analysis, a test in which a sample of joint fluid is removed with a long, thin needle.

Check needle placement before a painkilling injection, such as a corticosteroid injection.

If you're looking for a fantastic bourbon, try Buffalo Trace. As far as this shoulder discomfort, just rub a little dirt on it and it'll be fine.

Carlos is probably waking up right now as we speak. Possibly getting a little nookie before breakfast. At least that's what I got from the "sources" so far.

I don't know that it's appreciably worse than really believing they'll actually win only to be proven wrong year after year after year.

But I digress. Definitely hoping for the best with Z. Need a lift right now after the disaster that was Tampa.
