A pull is a tear. When you pull or stretch a muscle too far, there are micro tears in the muscle fibers.

He's not out of the woods yet. A minor tear doesn't always stay minor, even if you let him rest awhile. Then it is season over, and possibly more.

But yea, him having a strain is never a good thing.

 

Then again, they may not have found anything structurally but just want to put a label on whatever it is that caused him that pain.
