The other good news is that we *do* have guys in AAA who can be credible pitchers and step in when needed.

9 in a row. 38-21, on pace for 104 wins.

This team is so, so good.

I would love to see the Cubs get to 100. That would be great. I also want to see Len with a stache. So, Cubs, win tomorrow and do that for me.

With this win, the Cubs have broken their 5 road series losing streak. Here's to putting the peddle to the meddle, and not letting St. Louis/Milwaukee/Houston even sniff 1st place again.

erik went to bed, so my guess is that the new game thread will be up in the morning or early afternoon.

Wood will definitely be completely unavailable tomorrow, and Wuertz almost certainly will also be unavailable.

Marmol has had 2 of the last 3 days off, but I still hope they only use him for 1 tomorrow. Lieber could possibly go 2. Howry should probably go only 1, but could go 2 if he's efficient. Hart could go 1 or 2 if he can get out of the inning this time (he threw 20 pitches tonight to get 1 out). Eyre and Cotts should be ready to take on the middle of the Padres lineup again.

So they have barely enough, but they really could use a deep game by one of these starting pitchers. Hopefully Lilly can rebound from his terrible last start and go at least 6 in this game, and the Cubs can start to get some of their bullpen arms rested.

The '89 team didn't really kick it into gear until August, and even then they were never really the best team in the league (The A's were completely unstoppable wire-to-wire that year). The '84 team was unbelievable after the Sutcliffe trade, and were the best team in the NL by a decent bit, but got robbed of HFA because Wrigley didn't have lights. However, the Tigers were completely unstoppable that year. So, this is probably the first time in about 40 years where the Cubs were arguably the best team in the league this late in the year.

The lights thing is a myth. HFA alternated between West and East back then. I wanna say 85 was the first year they switched to best record.

Not only do we have the best record in baseball, we're up to 2.5 games ahead of everybody else after Tampa lost tonight.

only two weeks till i get to see them in my home town

PUMPED

GO CUBBIES

St Pete?

yes

this series will be my first big league game EVAR, and me and my college roommate will be staying for the entire series. kinda unsusal that we have to go 900 miles to watch our first major league game when we could go like 70 miles north and watch one there. and the cool/strange/scary part of it is, if things hold as it is now, it would be the best of both leagues going at it for three games. wonder if there will be more cub fans or d-ray fans there.

but about other road trips, i am then reminded that cincinnati is barely a major league franchise. it's too bad the cubs don't get back to cincy until real late in the year otherwise i would so be there.

only two more weeks.

STOKED

IT CAN'T GET HERE SOON ENOUGH!!!

ps. what exactly is there to do in the tampa bay area? we're making a road trip out of it and we need something to do up until 7:05 eastern.
