McCann over Soto is laughable. He is Geovany Soto.

McCann is actually out-performing Soto by a tad bit in the OPS department. It's pretty much a toss-up between the two offensively speaking. However, with defense, I'd take Soto over McCann.

I can see the case for McCann, though. Russell Martin is also having himself a fine year, although he's lagging behind both in the power department.

You are missing the point though.

Geovany Soto have mercy on your soul.

With the possibility of Z, Soto, Fuku, and Soriano all making the team, it's going to make it really hard for guys like Marmol, Dempster, Ramirez, and Lee to get on the roster because they have to fill that rule that says every team needs to be represented. I bet we don't see more than the first 4 Cubs listed make the team.

Given how few days Soto has gotten off so far this season, I'd actually prefer him not to make the ASG so he'd get those days off, preserving his awe-inspiring dominance down the stretch.

Actually, I'd prefer if no Cubs go. Time off is better.

I think if Dempster still has the 4th best ERA in baseball when pitchers are selected, he will be in.

Honestly, top of my head, Lee probably doesn't deserve to be an all star.

His OPS is already down to .892 for the year. So no I don't think as of right now, he should be in.

I have been heavily voting for McCann (obviously not enough) b/c I also want Geo to have a 3 day rest... I know, pretty pointless...

Soto will have a 3 day rest considering the Cubs have a day off after the all star break. The 4th day, he'll squat for 4 innings and get 2 ABs. I don't see what the big deal is.

What he said. I'd hate for Soto to lose out on something that I'm sure would be an absolute thrill for him because his own fanbase was voting against him.

seriously. that's stupid. he'll catch three innings max...i don't think that's going to push him over the edge.

I don't think Fududome does either.

Out of all the Cubs players, Marmol deserves it the most. He's the best relief pitcher in baseball. I really, really hope he's included.

Soto is more deserving.

He's the only position player on our team that deserves to start the ASG.

Aramis deserves a spot (but he won't get it).

EDIT: I see now that you said start. Then yeah, you're right. My bad.

Yeah, Ramirez should be there.

SS:

Ramirez

Tejada

Reyes

McCann

Martin

OF:

Soriano

Fukudome

Griffey

McLouth

Burrell

Dodgers: Martin

Giants: Lincecum

Padres: Gonzalez

Rockies: Holliday

Diamondbacks: Webb, Hudson, Lyon

Cubs: Soriano, Fukudome, Dempster, Soto, Zambrano

Phillies: Burrell, Hammels, Lidge

I spent literally 5 minutes on this so I am probably missing some key players.

Wainwright deserves to be on there, but the bullpen has blown some wins but he should have 7 or 8 wins to go along with his sub-3.00 era.

I'm voting for

C- Soto

1b- Lee

2b- DeRosa

SS- Theriot

3b- Ramirez

OF- Soriano, Fukudome, Dunn

No apologies either.

No Edmonds or Pie :beee:

I did vote for Pie early one...and to suggest I'd even consider voting for Edmonds... :-&

I totally see what you guys are saying. Geo definitely deserves to be there... I'm not trying to argue otherwise, of course. My voting for McCann is done out of love, not malice. Perhaps it was misplaced..

It'd be a tough decision if only one could go... but if Marmol really is the best reliever in the NL, and Soto is even with McCann to be the best catcher in the NL... doesn't that indicate that Marmol should get the nod over Soto (again, with the understanding that only one could go)?

Soto is more deserving than McCann. And the best C is more valuable than the best RP, in my opinion.

I know this is a Cub website obviously. But you can't honestly say that Soto is more deserving than McCann. You could say they are equal but to just flat out say Soto is more deserving than McCann is wrong. Just like I won't say McCann is more deserving than Soto.
