Hey Meph, if given the opportunity and money not an object...Greene or Furcal? Just curious.

I know you didn't ask me, but I'd probably take Greene.

Greene over Furcal. Greene's better defensively and with the bat.

But Furcal is better at deciding to drive drunk and injuring Cubs players.

My sources tell me that the Robert trade is a done deal, but MacPhail and Hendry have agreed to sit on it awhile before announcing it because they both are amused watching this thread and seeing how big it grows. :D

Maybe it should be renamed the Pinoccio thread.

The more lies we hear, the bigger it gets?

We’ve been startled by enough false alarms when it comes to trades, but people I’ve spoken with over the last 24 hours sound more encouraged about Erik Bedard going to the Mariners. I still believe it’s going to happen.

It’s been so insane lately, we’ve almost forgotten about Brian Roberts and the Cubs. Those talks supposedly are active, as well. We’ve just been too pre-occupied with Bedard to care as much.

If we went at Baltimore with a package based around Pie and Gallagher for Bedard has there ever been a successful rotation with 3 left handers? If having 3 lefties is not a problem i would do all i can to aquire Bedard for a package not including hill, try to aquire Anderson from the sox and let him and sammy fight it out for CF. Getting in to the Playoffs with our top 4 being Zambrano,Bedard,Lilly and Hill would make me happy!

I cant imagine it being a problem to have three lefties, that is unless the those lefties are bad.

Yeah, it's not really a problem. Now, if our 3 lefties were Mark Hendrickson, Horacio Ramirez, and Mark Redman, then we have a problem.

I may be way off, and I'm not sure how to look it up, but I thought the Yankees had a all lefty rotation after the Cubs traded them Steve Trout many many years ago.

I tried to look it up and the Cubs traded Trout to the Yankees in 87. I think that made the rotation Tommy John, Dennis Rasmussen, Ron Guidry, and Trout for a while at least. Rick Rhoden was on the staff but I think he got injured which lead to the trade for Trout in the first place. Could be wrong though

Depresses me to read things like this:

Steve (CHI): Do the cubs and orioles get the brian roberts deal done anytime soon?

SportsNation Jim Callis: Yes. Sounds like the Orioles will try to complete a Bedard trade first, then the Roberts deal may happen. The Orioles may get more for Roberts than the Twins did for Santana.

I would guess that's probably more of a dig at what the Twins received for Santana than it is a prediction as to the value of any package the Cubs will give up for Roberts.

Here's a later question:

Phil(Chicago): More for Roberts than Santana!? What is it going to take for the Cubs to get him?

Jim Callis: (2:38 PM ET ) I keep hearing multiple players, perhaps starting with Felix Pie and Sean Gallagher

Please no Jim. They can have Pie or Gallagher, not both. That's way too much.

Well, that doesn't make me happy. I was hoping Callis was just taking a shot at the Twins.

In the Jim Callis quote, I imagine he met to type that the Orioles could get more for Bedard (not Roberts)

Bedard isn't going to cost a new team 110-150 million right out of the gate. So they can demand better prospects.

But the question wasn't about Bedard, it was about Roberts. Bedard was just mentioned as a barrier for the Roberts trade to occur.

I've just had my dinner and i feel physically sick about Pie/Gallagher and more for Roberts. Whats the point why? why? why? i don't get it? i know i'm a stupid english guy but why the hell would we pay that price for a marginal upgrade? this will make me really angry.....like that crazy german kid smashing his computer on youtube.

if that's what it takes I hope Hendry tells his pal to go jump off a bridge we already overpaid for Trachsel's rotting corpse last year.

While I still cringe when Roberts is referred to as a marginal upgrade over DeRosa (maybe if DeRosa plays at the best we can expect while Roberts plays at about his average it's a wash), I doubt Pie will be part of the deal.
