I could read lee's lips when he said "what?!?" to young, but what did it appear that young said to him? I never saw a good angle to try to read his lips and I was wondering if anyone else saw it clearly.

Someone called in WGN or the score closely afterward. He said his friend read his lips. . The pitcher (young right?) said. . .

Young - Are you alright?

Lee - Yeah (and even I could clearly see that in the replay)

Young - Then take your base you #*@*#*@.

Lee - What!? (again you can see this in the replay)

Young - began to repeat himself before the punch.

Lee reacted to the fact he almost got hit in the face, and then this fatso pitcher EGGS him on after hitting him in his previously injured wrist? If MLB could know the whole story fatso would get 3 missed starts and lee would get a day. . . . . if they were fair. .

Young is like 6'10-260, he's not fat. Also, I'm pretty sure that MLB does know the whole story.

When I saw the replay the first couple of times, I could have sworn Young was saying "I wasn't throwing at you" right before Lee swung at him.

I've watched the replay a couple of times too, and I thought I saw Young say, "I'll do it again" right before Lee swings at him. Either way, it doesn't matter what Young said because it obviously wasn't the answer Lee was looking for. It couldn't have been good.

And I'd never heard that story about Peavy and the airport. Wow, my opinion of him just changed dramatically. Anyone that's read the Paris Hilton thread knows I can't stand anyone that's ever uttered the phrase, "don't you know who I am?" to get their way.

A buddy of mine is a cop down in Atlanta. He said a cop friend of his had the distinct pleasure of dealing with drunk Kyle Farnsworth one night (like myself and pretty much everyone else on this board has at one point). Apparently Farnsworth started an argument with someone that was about to escalate into a fight when the cop dragged him outside and told him to go home. Farnsworth was noticeably intoxicated. Then Farnsworth decided he was going to his car. And the cop walked right behind him saying, "If you open that car door, you're going to jail for a DUI." Then Farnsworth started berating the officer saying, "Do you have any idea who I am?!? I'm a Cubs pitcher! I'm a Cubs pitcher!" over and over again. The cop then said, "You're gonna be a Cubs pitcher on Fox news tomorrow morning if you get in that car." Lucky for Farnsworth, one of his friends saw this and came to his rescue. Threw him in a cab before Farnsworth had a chance to do anything else.

Sorry to go off topic there, but the Peavy story reminded me of that.

Maybe Peavy was drunk.

there will not be any games taken off of Lee's penalty. if they did that, they would have to reduce Young's also, leaving the obviousness of the non-penalty that he received all too obvious.
There easily could be a game or two taken off Lee's suspension. It does happen, even with the Cubs. And just because they cut Lee's suspension (if they do) doesn't mean they also have to cut Young's.

Here is my take on the suspensions

Lee- Say what you want about what happened before the punches were thrown, but Lee was the one who threw the first punch and for that he deserves to sit and I think that 5 games is pretty fair.

Young- I think that its not fair for pitchers to sit out more then one or two starts, as that is a much larger portion of their season then 5 games is for an everyday player. If you want to give him one start they should at least make it 6 or 7 games so they cant plan it so it dosent really hurt the team.

Peavy- As far as Peavy I thought when I saw it that he deserved a suspension, but I am not sure that his should have been as long as Young's therefore a 2 or 3 game for a pitcher does not do a whole lot. For that reason I would just make his fine much larger then the rest of the players, that way he still gets a penalty.

That is just my take on it from an outside perspective with no ties to either team.

How about going a little outlandish and saying something like 'he can only pitch 10 innings in the next week'? That way, either one or two of his starts would suffer, but it would be balance-able.

I don't like that Young only got five games. I would have thought ten would have been about right for him. On the other hand, I'm happy Lee only got five. I feared he could get 7+.

MLB really does need to find a more equitable way to handle suspensions. I'd prefer it to be a set penalty per offense and remove the discretion that Watson has. He's proven over the course of time that he's unable to remove his bias and personal feelings when handing down discipline. Frankly, he's a joke.

I thought Peavy charging in, and getting in the middle of everything, made the scrum worse. I'm surprised all he got was a slap on the wrist.

If Peavy woulden't have charged in, then Gerald Perry woulden't have mauled his face.

I'm more concerned with Perry v. Peavy. If Perry gets 3 games, Peavy needs to be suspended about 15, because Perry by all accounts did absolutely nothing wrong.

I was expecting about 5 for Lee. I can live with that as long as he serves after Aramis is back.

No matter what happens, if a brawl happens, the Cubs are getting the worse of the suspensions. That's the one constant.

I think if you take Peavys actions during the brawl, and his comments before the game, its absolutely ridiculous that Peavy didnt get any kind of suspension.

I wonder if any punches had actually landed, would have the suspensions been longer?

By the way, why do players always go for the big knockout blow in baseball fights? If D. Lee went with a quick few jabs to Youngs nose, he would have had better results. Winding up for the big punch just gives time for others to grab and tackle you.

Damn straight. From now on we'd best get some boxing lessons for guys like Soriano and Lee. If we're going to get suspended for fighting, then we'd better get the most out of it.

Had he landed anything, he probably gets more games, and may have hurt himself. I prefer the swing and miss if they are going to fight.

He also telegraphed his punch by grabbing Young's jersey with his left hand. I like to think that DLee is just that smart that he can get in a fight and still be a good guy.

He also hesitated to get back into the fight after Giles held back Young. Lee looked like he was waiting for his teammates to hold him back, or at least provide the necessary separation.

They should train with Chuck Liddell for a while.

That is the proper form for any basebrawl, the longer you jaw back and forth the sooner others will be there to stop anything from happening.

How do suspensions for coaches work? Can Perry be in the dugout prior to the game but has to be somewhere else during the game without contacting the players or managers?

If there was a racist remark amongst Young' comments to Lee, he's fool and idiot - last time I checked he has several minority teammates.

Who said anything about racial comments?
