Big Z's defense attorney "Ladies and gentlemen for the last 31/2 season Mr. Zambrano has had to pitch to one Michael Barrett." The defense presents some footage of Mr. Barrett's defense. (Cue the Barrett blooper real) After, watching and eating their large bucket of popcorn and their large soda's the jury finds Mr. Zambrano innocent on the grounds of temporary insanity.

The jury is escorted from the court house and are driven away in a van by a blonde driver wearing a Sox hat. He had an incredible resemblance to A.J.

Buster Olney was just on Baseball Tonight and said that after Z was sent to the locker room, he was screaming for Barrett to come to the locker room to finish the fight. Barrett did and Olney said that multiple punches were thrown and that Barrett took the brunt of it. He said besides the lip, Barrett probably has a black eye as well.

Doesn't look too good for Z right now.

According to ESPN 1000, a reliable source said that Barrett went to the clubhouse to bury the hatchet and Z replied FU and popped him.

They weren't sure how valid the story was but said their source was pretty reliable.

If that's true, Z is dead to me.

Barrett really didn't look pissed after the incident. He just seemed kind of stunned.

And if that source is right, why was Lou making Barrett out like the bad guy?

Buster Olney just reported on Baseball Tonight and his version of the story sounded similar to this one. Zambrano was yelling out from the clubhouse and Barrett went back in to talk to him and Zambrano attacked him a 2nd time.

MB's attorney shows footage of Z sucking all year, and says can you blame Barret for not wanting to take the blame for Z's pitching? The judge tells Z to grow up and stop being a jackass lil 12 year old, and take responsibility for his own actions for once, instead of blaming others for his misfortunes.

This "discipline" needs to be more than just a slap on the wrist. I think Zambrano should be suspended and forced to take some type of anger management. I'm tired of his act and his teammates should be too.

Oh the humanity, two frustrated players scrap. I'm sorry but this incident doesn't outrage me at all. Deal out the appropriate discipline and move on.

Well, at least we know they're as sick of sucking as we are of watching them suck.

EDIT: I can just imagine what's going through Z's mind on a daily basis by now. He could have taken a deal that was, by all accounts, an average of 15-17M per year for 7 years. Now he's got an ERA over 6.00 and is likely to be fined by the league for fighting.... with a player from his own team. We have a saying here in the South for how Z must be feeling, "Lower than a snake's belly in a ditch".

WTF is up with Lou putting all the blame on Barrett for? Seriously, it doesn't sound like he went and "hunted" Z down. Lou is rapidly becoming my least favorite Cubs manager ever.

And I loved the guy in the early going.

A twist on this all, BBTN's Olney mentioned that something had been going on not only in this clubhouse, but also (paraphrasing) players talking or complaining to other players on other teams about the direction of this club and the handling of the bullpen.

Did anybody hear any of this? Any other reports coming from other sources?

I got the impression that the fight didn't really bother Lou all that much and he seemingly put the blame on Barrett because he's more frustrated with his play.

It's more than "two frustrated players scrapping." It's a 26 year old man who has no control over his emotions and is clearly not a good teammate.

if this is true, each game is going to get progressively more hilarious. i can't wait.

maybe tomorrow half the cubs will be drunk and jacque jones will fight a fan.

The fan wouldn't have anything to worry about. No doubt Jacque's attempted punch would get spiked straight into the ground.

I'm sure Barrett did something to add to the conflict. He seems to have a habit of getting involved in scraps albeit the previous ones did not involve teammates.

I figure both guys share the blame. The question is whether or not this is something they can resolve and remain in the same clubhouse. If not....who goes? I'm not sure I really care at this point. :?

Seriously, what kind of idiot punches his own teammate during the middle of a game? What a stupid, stupid person.

I was at today's game (0-5 for the season, but that's beside the point) and I've thought about this scuffle for a little bit before posting.

Firstly, I'm really disappointed in both players -- this is clearly something that never happens. After I first heard about it, I really thought that at least one of the players needed to be traded.

However, after thinking about this I've come to the conclusion that it's not the end of the world or the collapse of the team. These types of fights have happened in the past within a team -- they just usually aren't in public view. Skiles/Shaq, Jordan/Kerr are a couple of examples. Hopefully the two will apologize to each other and this can all be resolved shortly.

I have a strange feeling that the team will right itself. It's only June 1st and Mil really isn't that impressive. I just hope they can get their act together soon.

I'm inclined to agree... I think that a panic fire sale of either of these 2 guys out of frustration w/ the situation would be short sited and would be selling them at their lowest points.

This is where in a perfect world Lou & Jim sit these two down, put it clear to them that they are men and when it comes to it, still employees who are paid to do a job. Fine them & suspend them for a few games, etc... to let them know that they're serious, and expect to move on. Meanwhile, let the dust settle and in a few weeks to a month, start feeling out other GM's to get rid of these two before the deadline since it seems clear that neither will likely be in cubbie blue next season.

What will actually happen is that Jim will trade them both off for B level prospects because they're becoming cancers in the clubhouse and that's just unacceptable.

Hahaha. Ok, I know this joke has been told many times, but the mental image of that one was a spit-out-my-drink moment for me.

I was watching WGN tonight (they were even critical of what happened), but after the fight was over, Barrett looked like he was trying to explain things to the guys on the bench, and it looked like Theriot said something to him that made Barrett turn stop and turn around. I wonder if it was Ryan that told him that he needed to apologize or something.

And what a class act DLee is. Gave a really nice little blurb to the media on the team. Stand up guy and took the company line. Would have made Crash Davis proud.

Seriously, was there any doubt that Zambrano was the main instigator in the incident? I'm surprised it hasn't happened before.
