I'm watching it over and over and it's pretty clear Z started it. Who cares though? Z LEFT THE PARK! That's unacceptable.
Z left the park?

Z was told to leave the park. Lou told him to shower and go home but we all know that now from the circus, I mean, press conference.

I would not be surprised if Barrett takes the brunt of the fallout.

I can see that happening, simply because Z is theoretically more important to any hope the Cubs have of contending and because Barrett has a history of this kind of crap since 2004.

And Z has a history of calling out teammates for defensive miscues. Now I can almost forgive Todd Walker for calling Z on the carpet on the radio in 04.

This is the first time in two weeks I've been interested in this team. Fights don't last with guys. This will be a non-issue in a week or two, and we can all go back to wondering how long it will take for Hendry to disappear and be replaced by someone equally clueless.

Maybe both Barrett and Zambrano can take some lessons from D. Lee about being a man...seriously....as much stress as he has been through with his daughter, and then crap like today he has to run in the clubhouse and break up a fight between these 2 girls.

As for Zambrano, FU you piece of crap. If you are pissed then peg someone on the other team with a 96MPH fastball. Don't hit your teammate.

I just checked my guide on DirecTV. Anyone who has CSNC as their regionals sports net can watch/tape this game in its entirity at 2 AM central time. I saw it and personally, I don't blame Barrett and he did not shove Z. He stepped toward him with his hands up and Z lunged and girl slapped Michael in the face and it escalated from there.

ESPN's Buster Olney reported that Z was up in the tunnel screaming at Michael to come finish the fight after Z was escorted into the clubhouse. Testosterone seemed to get the better of Michael and he ended up with a split lip and a black eye. Supposedly bad blood has been brewing all over the Cubs clubhouse for some time and even players on other teams knew about it. I am sure they will replay Buster's report on the next BT.

It really looks like it's all Carlos to me. Barrett stepped toward Zambrano, but he didn't really seem all that aggressive to me. It certainly didn't look like Michael was going to take a swing or anything. Z should be suspended and fined.

Barrett charged at Z and then Z shoved Barrett.

Lol Barret did not charge at Z. He might have stepped towards him but definatly didnt charge lol.

From the TBS feed, it looks like BarRett charged Z.

TBS feed is a horrible angle on the whole thing.

How does this fit with the info that Barrett was not at the players only meeting?

That was the story right?

Where did you hear that?

my friend sent me a text during work today that said "zambrano hits like a girl" and i thought it was a totally random text message about z's hitting swing.

holy **** what a mess i missed

I've said this before, Barrett is a terrible catcher. Just terrible. He hops around behind the plate, sets up late or sometimes not at all, and gets crossed up far too often with too many pitchers.

I don't get it though. Yeah, Barrett's never been an above average defensive catcher, but now he's just gone through the bottom of the tank. He's worse than a freaking pee wee catcher now.

I don't remember him being an idiot on the basepads like this either? Maybe a few times, but not every damn game?

What the hell, I really want to know why Barrett has tanked so sharply in such a short period of time.

Z I can understand a little. He's an abused pitcher and I'm convinced there is an unreported injury waiting to be revealed. I don't get Barrett.

JMHO...it's Lou.

Ship Zambrano's ass out of town. I'm tired of him constantly being a crybaby, and he's nothing but a detriment to this team. He hasn't done anything for us on the mound this year, and now he's starting fights with his own teammates.

You can ship Barrett out too, but that's just because he's obviously on the decline as an offensive player.

Is it possible to place both guys on the DL for 15 days for discipline. Say MB has a busted lip (legit reason!) and Z has a umm "back problem" like Millers. Or a broken heart. I dunno if we can put them on the bereavement list. If MB gets suspended, our catching tandem would be Hill and Soto (maybe Jake Fox though he hasnt seen time there lately)

The Chicago Cubs are the mockery of professional baseball right now.

This is ridiculous. Just suspend Z for a start, give it to Gooz, let him come back and pitch for a couple of months (isolated from everybody Sammy-style) and ship his ass out of town to a contender at the deadline and try to get some value.

....and I'm not going to tell you that "it takes two to tango," or that I have any kind of idea what the atmosphere in the Cubs clubhouse is - because like you, I have no idea.

What I will say, and those of you who play(ed) baseball can confirm, is that it takes a real jackass to openly and publicly criticize a teammate. This is not the first time (by a longshot) that Carlos Zambrano has called out a teammate for a physical error (mental errors like the baserunning gaff are different).

That is a fault of Zambrano's that he is going to have to take care of before he will be considered a man or a good teammate, and as far as I am concerned Z gets the "Nuthair Award" for the day.

You'll get more for Z at the end of July. It is in the best interest of the Cubs to hold on to this D-Bag and wait for the market to go up.

I've had my eye on Brandon Wood for the Angels, but knowing Hendry, I'm sure he has a hard on big time for Chone Figguns.

A twist on this all, BBTN's Olney mentioned that something had been going on not only in this clubhouse, but also (paraphrasing) players talking or complaining to other players on other teams about the direction of this club and the handling of the bullpen.

Did anybody hear any of this? Any other reports coming from other sources?

Boy, if there was ever a time that we needed to hear something from Bruce Miles, this is one of them.

No. I think all suspensions are just like the MLB suspensions, the team is just short- unless its a long term suspension where they will be placed on the restricted list- and there are several machinations to that including a hearing i believe.

It is unlikely that either player would allow themselves to be placed on the DL for a bogus reason. The MLBPA would have kittens. Miller knows he is near the end and is just trying to hang on to the chance or the injury was legit.

Quite frankly, I don't care who started it. This is just flat out embarassing. These guys should be ashamed for acting like that in the middle of a game.

Not like this is anything new with Zambrano calling out teammates on defense. He's been doing it for years...but behind closed doors.

Now he won't. Teams will pay more for 4 months of a player than they will for 2 months of a player.

Not if he sucks. That being said, Zambrano would only be worth more in 2 months if he gets his act together and shows he can pitch. If that's the case, are you really going to want to trade him? Even if he shows he can pitch there will be questions of his mental makeup for a contender and he still won't bring back true value. Damned if you do, damned if you don't with this one.

I caught what Theriot was telling Barrett on the late BT edition. Ryan said "that was bush league."

Dont know if he was talking about Z pointing at his head and starting it or Barrett pointing at the scoreboard, but it got Michaels attention.

They also said Barrett has 2 black eyes, a busted lip, and got thrown into a locker with his face from what they are saying.
