However, all Barrett had to do was walk away. Instead, he pointed to the scoreboard.

This is a completely lame standard to hold Barrett to.

Yes, professionalism went out with red leather jackets.

Give me a break.

I'm not even sure what point you are trying to make here.

You don't like Michael Barrett, we get it. The fight was almost entirely Zambrano's fault. It's pretty obvious to everyone. Why does Barrett have to sit there and take a tongue lashing from one of the worst regular starting pitchers in baseball this year?

Zambrano was a complete joke today. Imagine the nerve of him to tell another player to "keep their head in the game." What a delusional maniac.

Good point.

I consider myself a professional. I usually act such at work. But if a colleague walked into my classroom, called me a horrible teacher in front of my students, and insulted my intelligence while I was aware that he had deficiencies of his own, I'd probably point those out at that time. While it might not be the most professional way to handle the situation, I'm also likely not the one to be blamed either.

Then you're not acting professional.

My point is that it seems to me that many people are making Barrett the victim here. Zambrano is not the first Cub pitcher to have a problem with Barrett. Prior and Maddux both have had problems with him in the past.

Z is/was stupid. Z should not have done what he did.

Barrett on the other hand instigated the altercation by pointing to the freaking scoreboard after he made two stupid mistakes on one play.

It's seems to me that both are in the wrong here.

No we are all saying its both of their faults but Z was the instigator. He was calling out somebody for making 2 mistakes on one play in front of his teammates. What about all the mistakes Z made while pitching today, or this year? Z needs to look his punk ass in the mirror and quit blaming others for his sucking.

Sorry, I just can't agree with you here. He's getting reamed out by a pitcher who was throwing batting practice all day and who has been horrible this year. If I was Barrett I would have told him to worry about himself, too.

Carlos has been making stupid mistakes all year. If he doesn't like them being pointed out, then maybe he shouldn't bring up other people's. Also, maybe he shouldn't physically attack people when they point out his mistakes.

According to ESPN 1000, a reliable source said that Barrett went to the clubhouse to bury the hatchet and Z replied FU and popped him.

They weren't sure how valid the story was but said their source was pretty reliable.

Looks like Zambrano has issues.

That wouldnt surprise me one bit. MB lets it cool for a few and then goes down to say "Dude, we are teammates lets forget about this its no big dea", when Z turned and said FU and punched him. I can see that very easily

Classy.

LOL, yeah. Wonderful isn't it?

Who knows if it's true, but just looking at Z and the way the whole day went, it wouldn't be suprising.

Well Rotoworld said Barrett was sent to the Hospital with a busted lip. After watching the video I didn't see where that happened in the dugout...could have happened in the tunnel or in the clubhouse.

The more I think about this, the more it pisses me off. How stupid is Carlos Zambrano? What the hell does he intend to achieve by mouthing Barrett and pointing at his head? This is 100% Zambrano's fault. Anyone who says that this whole incident is Barrett's fault needs to think with their brain, and not their heart.

Get rid of Zambrano. He's stupid, a head case, and no longer good at baseball. Yeah, that's probably a bit hyperbolic but I'm sick of him.

Nah, Barrett's got some blame too. Without a doubt. It looks like Z did instigate. I'm mad at both, neither are the smartest bulbs around.

That is a FANTASTIC mixed metaphor.

The Cubs have given me many reasons to be ashamed to be a Cubs fan, this year has trumped everything so far.

I guess this year's going to be all about how low they can really sink.

How low....

....can u go?

Great team you've put together here, Jim.

Sometimes losing just isn't enough.

At times like this, just start beating on each other.

When you need that little extra kick of loserdom, reach out and beat the hell out of your teammate.

I didnt see the game. I didnt read this thread, but I'd like to say no matter what Michael Barrett was in the right on this one. I love me some Barrett. Edited by Mephistopheles

There was no win in this game.

It really looks like it's all Carlos to me. Barrett stepped toward Zambrano, but he didn't really seem all that aggressive to me. It certainly didn't look like Michael was going to take a swing or anything. Z should be suspended and fined.

Barrett charged at Z and then Z shoved Barrett.

Lol Barret did not charge at Z. He might have stepped towards him but definatly didnt charge lol.

he put his arms up and was getting ready to shove Z. it's not like you could really charge anyone in close quarters like that, but i would say barrett instigated it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, i haven't read past this comment yet, so i'm sure someone else has already said it, but HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Yeah right. Zambrano is the complete and total idiot in this entire situation. TOTAL. Even if barrett went into the clubhouse trying to attack him (which i doubt, i assume he probably went in to say something along the lines of "hey i'm sorry that play happened let's work this out later" or "hey it's all good i'm sorry i didn't make the play") zambrano is still the IDIOT who started the whole darn thing and needs to be sent away to the yankees or whoever will give us a good return ASAP. I would have never advocated trading Zambrano before the season but now I'd love to get rid of him, his bum arm, his ridiculous temper, and his empty head.

QFT (just had to toot my own horn on this one)

I like Michael Barrett for the most part, but his bat isn't really doing much at the moment. That being said, neither is anyone else's on the Cubs, save Aramis Ramirez, so it's hard to hold it against him.

Z did to Barrett what I want to do to all of them save a select few. I say turn them all loose on each other. Maybe they'll get what they deserve.

Now: Will the Cubs come out with a new fire tomorrow, or will they get smoked again?

If that turns out to be true, then Z has to be given MAJOR discipline. I think Barrett might also have grounds for a lawsuit against Z personally, if he chooses to pursue it. This action by Z I would consider completely unforgiveable.

If that's true, Z is dead to me.

Barrett really didn't look pissed after the incident. He just seemed kind of stunned.

And if that source is right, why was Lou making Barrett out like the bad guy?

Could you imagine Barrett SUING Z? That cracks me up.
I don't think it's likely, but I think he might have grounds IF he wanted to. If either or both of them are traded so they're no longer teammates that might increase the likelihood.
