  1. Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends...
  2. Thats the class we've all grown to love around here...
  3. Lou shoulda gone crazy and got booted for that call... Light a little fire under the team in typical Lou fashion. Media seemed to think it worked last time...
  4. anyone know if this game is being broadcast on ESPN Radio?
  5. I'm inclined to agree... I think that a panic fire sale of either of these 2 guys out of frustration w/ the situation would be short sited and would be selling them at their lowest points. This is where in a perfect world Lou & Jim sit these two down, put it clear to them that they are men and when it comes to it, still employees who are paid to do a job. Fine them & suspend them for a few games, etc... to let them know that they're serious, and expect to move on. Meanwhile, let the dust settle and in a few weeks to a month, start feeling out other GM's to get rid of these two before the deadline since it seems clear that neither will likely be in cubbie blue next season. What will actually happen is that Jim will trade them both off for B level prospects because they're becoming cancers in the clubhouse and that's just unacceptable.
  6. I was at the game tonight. Lilly looked really good. I was pretty impressed at his stuff. Considering the conditions - It was freaking cold and flurried snow on and off after the 3rd inning - Lilly threw a great game. Our offense will come around a little more than tonight, but it was good to see a W and a decently pitched game.
  7. I'm sure this is posted all over the place here, but I couldn't find it and didn't want to search everywhere... Could someone let me know the order of the pitchers in the rotation? I'm going to go to see them here in Cincy on April 4th, which would be game 2 of the season and was wondering who will likely be pitching... Thanks.
  8. Any response to this yet? If you've still got the tickets I may be interested. I'll have to ask the wife...
  9. Even then, moving Jones and one of the relievers for 2 years of budget flexibility to sign Big Z gives us two seasons of "win now" teams with Z at the helm of our rotation. This seems more important than keeping Jones and Dempster or Eyre who are not "deal breakers" in making us a contender... That gives us two seasons to win and make the bloated 09" budget more justifiable to the Trib.
  10. I read through the first 7-9 pages of this thread, and it all seems pretty similar in thoughts... Sign Z, Trade him, or Let him walk at the end of the season. I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but is there any possibility of trimming the roster to make room for Z? Dump Jones off for cheap prospects, comit to Pie in CF for the year, and save a little money towards keeping your Ace? I know that comitting to Pie as a ML starter this year is really debated on here, but at this point, is playing Pie worth it if it means possibly keeping Big Z around? I'm sure there's other possible moves such as this one that the Cubs could do to make absorbing his contract for the next 2-3 years a little more feasible, this is just the first one that comes to mind...
  11. The fall roster expansion is about here, so who comes up? Do we see Pie make his Chicago debut? With all the injuries we've sustained this season a lot of the pitching prospects that I would expect to see hit the team about this time have already had a significant amount of time on the big roster. Any predictions or kids to watch over the final month?
  12. I'm from Rochester NY where the Twins AAA team plays. I got to see him throw 4 times last year. The first time by chance, the other three times I was on the road driving home from work and heard on the radio that he was tossing so I came home, changed clothes, and told the wife I was headed to the ball park. He's just that good.
  13. This one would definately have to be my favorite one. I found this and got the idea from a friend. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j122/EmmausMatt/karma.jpg
  14. This might fit better under the minors thread, but with all the talk of calling up a 1B out of the system, whats going on with Brian Dope? I see that he's only had a few AB's this season. Is he hurt?
  15. Well, I guess Wed. night answered this question. Bein' out in NY, I don't get to see many games on TV, but I try to follow box scores. I've been hoping that Ronnie would get a shot at the Leadoff spot, so I was excited to see this move. Not that I am at all OK w/Dusty, but I was glad to see this one.
  16. Hey Aram Fan, where u from in Rochester? I live up in Greece off of W. Ridge. I've been in the city for about 2 years now. Don't see many Cubby fans out here. It's a small world.
  17. that's just a cool way to say booty is it not?
  18. dibs! I want in the wagon too! "... back seat, middle, feet on the hump! Thats my seat!" "He's not supposed to want the hump is he, Walt?" I'm all for Guz comin' up. It's about time we see what this kid's got at the ML level. Too many years of waiting, lets get it on!
  19. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5255082 6 mil this year, 9.5 next year. Not too shabby a deal for Teix or Texas, although I can't imagine they hold on to him long term as that $$ tag will just continue to rise with the numbers he's putting up.
  20. I'd love to see Miggy on the Cubs next season, but giving up all those prospects really leaves us strapped for additional moves. Hendry's already admitted he's looking for both another SP and a RF'er. Giving up all our chips but Walker really cripples us - plus, if we give up Cedeno, are we really letting Walker go and starting Neifi? Ugh, it makes me sick just to type it out..... Anywho...if we can get Miggy for Patterson + Hill + Williams with maybe Guzman thrown in if needed... If we trade for Miggy, I don't give up Cedeno because I think Hendry has already made a final decision to not have Walker next year.
  21. In Before The Lock... thats my guess. There are many other threads of similar nature about winter meetings and general anxiety about the cubs off season. More than likely this one gets locked down...
  22. I'll pass. I think Welly has a lot more potential than Bagbie and I'm not impressed with Bagbie's #'s. .239 BA last year? No thanks... thats not the type of OF this team needs to acquire.
  23. He still looks pretty good? He threw 2 interceptions last night, one which was run back for a touchdown in a game where his team lost by 3. Favre's 2005 decline is visible. I would disagree with this statement...He's 4th in the league in passing yards and tied for 2nd in TD's with 18. He's still one of the elite QB's of the league. Farve is not declining in skill or play level, he's trying to carry a team completely on his shoulders with the loss of 2 recievers and 3 running backs to injury. Consequently, he's forcing passes, he's trying to push the offense and right now he's really the only offensive threat the Pack has so people are geared up to stop him more than normal. Farve's still Farve. If he decides to come back next year, and I'm hoping that he does, with a healthy supporting staff, I see no reason for him to not still be an elite QB in the NFL. With a year or two more under his belt I believe Farve will go down as one of the top 5 QB's of all time. No way you bench him...
  24. The entire Wood situation is soo frustrating and difficult to understand. In a perfect scenerio, Wood gets surgery this winter, comes back pain free and has a true breakout season next year establishing himself as the dominant starter we've all seen glimpses of...but, that is a huge IF, and honestly, one that I'm not willing to settle on yet... I think the idea of using Wood out of the pen as a closer is also a great idea...in the few appearances this seaon he seems to be solid out of the pen and he can really put up some powerful speed for one or two innings. Problem I have is - are we really going to pay 12.5 mil a year for a closer? I just dont think it's worth it. So my question - which is better for the team and for the $ we're paying - A probably partial year of Wood on and off of the DL as a starter, or a possible full year of Wood at Closer? Granted both of those are probables, but they seem the most realistic to this point...
  25. That was my opinion too. I thought Gerut was a lousy pickup for a team in need of immediate help, but if he comes to spring training fully healthy then he could be very useful next year. The Pirates were already out of contention for 2005 when they got Gerut so it could still end up a good deal for them and it's way too early to say Hendry fleeced the Pirates. I dunno that acquiring a guy like Lawton could be considered "fleecing" no matter how little we gave up...
