I still don't understand the utility of having him assigned to Iowa when there's something wrong. Why not admit there's something wrong and take the steps to repair it and try for 2008?

Because, I personally think, that if they do, they are at the point of releasing him. I saw the salary standoff this year as a symptom not a cause. I think there might be something forming here between Mark and the Cubs, and I think it might be Mark who's building it. Look at his frustrated comments and everything else. I'm not sure if they'd put him on the DL again, or just release him. Optioning him to AAA allows them to keep him and not rely on him. If he can handle it, he might end up better for it.

I don't know why I felt compelled to look this up and torture myself, but at this point four years ago, as of Apr 11 2003, he was 2-0 with a CG shutout, 15 IP, 1 ER, 19K, 2BB ... ahh good times

And probably will never put up a line like that again..

How many pitches did he throw in that CG? Baker probably had him throw 130 pitches in early April and that CG was probably the beginnings of why he is where he is.

I'm going to guess that he's been on the phone trying to order his MLB EI package.

Steve Stone (on the Mike Murphy Show) just said that Prior, who was scheduled to pitch 3 innings at Fitch Park today, could only go 2 innings. He had reduced velocity and came out of the game complaining of "side pain."

Anyway...

Stone also thinks Guzman will be the fifth starter sooner rather than later (even though he sees Miller getting at least one more start).

Oh dear. I'm done paying attention to this for good now, or at least until the Thread Headline that reads, "Prior recalled from AAA".

I agree completely. I'm no longer on Prior watch.
