Glad to see Prior toughing it out. Like I said a few weeks ago, he's soft. What are the chances that this is another injury that is undetectable from an MRI? In other words, it is likely in his head.

he toughed himself into getting injured again today

He has been examined, x-rayed, mri'd and coddled more than any pitcher in history. The best doctors in the world have found nothing. He wasn't hurt last week, yesterday, this morning or now, other than in his head.

It's a good thing the Tribune Company is so flush with cash they can afford to pay Mark Prior $4MM again this year to hang out with his dad in Arizona all summer. Oh, wait. They're not flush with cash. And Mark Prior is just misunderstood according to the wailing masses, I get it. Get well soon Mark, we miss you honey!

And if they release him, they'll pay him 4 million to sit at home. Is that supposed to be better?

Until a car crash happens and the passengers of said car are wade miller, angel guzman, sean marshall, ryan o malley, carlos marmol and in the other car was donny veal, sean gallagher, gallagher the comic, jamie navarro, dan plesac, and amaury telemaco. And everyone involved in the crash were rendered incapacitated for the whole season... then this news matters.

then again, we could just send up rocky cherry and go to a four man rotation.

On the plus side of things, Gooz has looked a lot more like his old self so far this season than he did in his time last season. Considering we wont be moving Z, Hill, Lilly, or Marquis out of the rotation anyway, either Gooz or Prior was going to be wasted most of the season. At least know we know Gooz only has one semi-hurdle to clear now in Wade Miller.

It seemed odd that they kept saying Prior was staying in EXT to strengthen his shoulder ... but not by pitching. It reminded me of the injury-prevention program he was on last year that involved not pitching and then being injured. I'm sad that someone so talented has had his career stall so early ... and I'm sad that -- even though the Cubs weren't relying on Prior, blah blah blah -- there's no doubt that Prior being able to return at some level of MLB effectiveness would have been a big boost to the team.

With that said, I'm looking forward to the minor league pitching matchups tonight with Gallagher, Veal and Samardzija all starting.

I refuse to overreact until more info is available.

All the info I need is to look back the past couple of years.

And that tells you whether this injury is serious?

And that tells me Prior's chances of becoming an effective starter again are close to nil.

He'll be an all star pitcher :pig:

The Trib isn't flush with cash?

I hope he proves me wrong but my gut feeling is that Prior is finished. Even if he eventually does regain enough strength to pitch in the big leagues does anyone really believe he won't break down again before long? Obviously he's not a quick healer, so any future breakdown will likely be followed by another interminable recovery time. IMO Prior is not worth the aggravation unless you can get him for no more than $750K.

I think we all knew (or should have) there was an injury behind Mark's loss of velocity.

Shoulder injury. Just like JoBo, sometimes you lose velocity but feel no pain. But eventually, you start feeling the discomfort.

I think I've figured out the problem... all these years, he's been visiting Dwight Yocum instead of Doctor Yocum... it's an honest mistake, really.

Just reported that he's going to Dr. Yocum for a check up. Shoulder discomfort.

So from oblique to shoulder again?

Labrum surgery in 5,4,3,2...

id take shoulder surgery at this point. at least we would know that something is truely wrong and theyre doing something other than just letting him sit around to fix it. ive never seen an athlete have so much wrong with him, but never have anything minor or major done to fix it.
