  1. Hendry was one of my high school football coaches back in 1981. The quotes sound just like how he talks. Back then, every other word out of his mouth was a swear word and this was at a Catholic HS. Here are some examples of Hendryisms circa 1981: You have kind hair....the kinda hair that grows around a monkey's azz. To a student who was being difficult, in class: I'll stick your head up your azz and roll you down Bird Road like a bowling ball. When he was at Creighton, a co-worker was a pretty active alum and got to be friends with him. Once he saw my co-worker sitting in one of the front rows and said to him, "I'll be up in a little bit". Hendry proceded to get thrown out of the game on purpose and sat in the stands with my co-worker. Once when a pitcher was struggling, he went out to the mound for a visit and told the pitcher "you know what....you're getting laid tonight" and then turned around and walked back to the dugout. The pitcher got out of the jam. Having known him for two years, back in the early 80s, the quotes from the luncheon sound just like the things he would say.
  2. Ugh...the Cubs are 0-3 when I attend games this year. I am in for Tues and Wed in Miami. I think I may skip Thursday's game now that Traschel is pitching.
  3. Unwilling to adjust does not imply unwilling to work.
  4. Yep...this is what was so frustrating about Corey.
  5. It really looks like it's all Carlos to me. Barrett stepped toward Zambrano, but he didn't really seem all that aggressive to me. It certainly didn't look like Michael was going to take a swing or anything. Z should be suspended and fined. Barrett charged at Z and then Z shoved Barrett. Lol Barret did not charge at Z. He might have stepped towards him but definatly didnt charge lol. From the TBS feed, it looks like BarRett charged Z.

  7. When and where did they clash? I turned the TV off as Zambrano was walking off the mound. I'm guessing I'll be seeing this on SportsCenter.
  8. Google "stuck with crap for 7 more years", it should be among the first few posts.
  9. Please stick to baseball discussion, no matter how depressing that subject may be at the moment.
  10. I am not that surprised that Lee doesn't have as many HRs as he is one year removed from a severe wrist injury. Just because he is healed does not mean that he is back to full strength.
  11. Are the CWS locked into numerous unproductive long term contracts? How much are they paying for their mediocre team?
  12. We can only hope...Piniella was the wrong choice.
  13. Yep
  14. Are any of those final years for Soriano, option years? Or, is he guaranteed through 2014? How about for Lee and Ramirez. Are all of those years guaranteed?
  15. I think we are at least 3 or 4 years away. It is likely to get worse before it gets better. We have a lot of expensive guys who will be earning big $$ while their productivity declines in the next few years. I hope that the impending sale by the Tribune means that Hendry can make no more deals. He simply overpays in most of his deals. The ownership transition in the offseason plus the time to select a new gm means that there is going to be a significant time delay before any productive moves are made to begin reconstructing this team.
  16. I agree...this is beyond stupid. Has it been decided?
  17. I have the MLB Package on DirecTV and got the same bs here in Tampa, NYY/BOS. This has happened two Saturdays in a row.
  18. This is the line up I want to see, everyday!
  19. He has been examined, x-rayed, mri'd and coddled more than any pitcher in history. The best doctors in the world have found nothing. He wasn't hurt last week, yesterday, this morning or now, other than in his head.
  20. Glad to see Prior toughing it out. Like I said a few weeks ago, he's soft. What are the chances that this is another injury that is undetectable from an MRI? In other words, it is likely in his head.
  21. What about those comments make him soft? Did you hear him accepting responsibliity and saying that he has more work to do to get where he needs to be? No, he was trying to make a veiled point with his repeated use of the word "employee". What has he shown you in the past almost half decade to make you think that he has an ounce of mental toughness?
  22. That article and all of his comments about "being an employee" explain a lot about his mental makeup. The guy is soft.
  23. One the other jv football coaches and the jv baseball coach was Paul Maneri. Paul Maneri is the current head baseball coach at Notre Dame. I knew that Maineri was a close friend of Hendry's (probably part of the reason Johnson and Shark are in our system now) but I didn't know where that came from, thanks for mentioning. Maineri left ND this summer for the job at his alma mater, LSU. Is Shark a nickname for Samardzija? Samardzija's agent, Mark Rodgers, was another of our jv football coaches.
  24. He made use of some good connections to get opportunities and then made the most of those opportunities. One the other jv football coaches and the jv baseball coach was Paul Maneri. Paul Maneri is the current head baseball coach at Notre Dame. His father, Demi Maneri, was the long time head coach at Miami-Dade community college. Demi asked Hendry if he wanted to help manage a summer league team in Maine, I believe. From this, he got an opportunity to be the head baseball coach at Creighton. He took Creighton, hardly a traditional powerhouse, to the college world series. Hendry's connection to the Cubs was through Ed Lynch, former Cubs gm, former Mets pitcher and Miami Columbus HS graduate. I know Hendry went to the Marlins, as a scout, when they started in 1993. I don't know who Hendry knew at the Marlins or if he got that job solely from his success at Creighton. Former Marlins 1B Orestes Destrade is a Miami Columbus grad but I doubt he had anything to do with Hendry working for the Marlins as a scout. My guess is that Demi Maneri provided the connection at the Marlins.
