What a game by our defense. There wasn't a person on the planet predicting we hold the Saints under 20 points. Way to MAN UP and get the job done. All of them.

(Pats back in slightly arrogant smugness)

Over at ESPN Bears MB, I go under the name of doctazycrazy. In the last couple of days, I decided to make my "predictions" of the Bears/Saints game. Originally, I said the Bears would win 28-14. But after doing some research, and looking at the score of previous Conference Championship, in which a dome team on the road was involved, I averaged out the scores, and my second predictions was 27-10.

&tid=444610&tsn=6&rls=Chicago+Bears

And I made that post, HOURS before the game even played. But alas, I am not the only Bears fan, who believe the Bears would hold the Saints to below 20 points. A guy by the screenname of noonthirtyjoe, "prediciting 31-10" and was closer them my predictions. Nonetheless, there was atleast TWO Bears fans who believe the Bears would hold the Saints to below 20 points.

(Tooting my own horn)

BTW, I know it was fortunate that it worked out the way I wanted it to, but....I played on the fact that

dome teams on the road in the NFC Championships

+rookie head coaches leading teams to the NFC Championship

+Saints playing all but 1 game in the last 5 friggin' yrs, in cold weather like the game they just played

+Drew Brees being 0-3 lifetime (before Sunday) in his pro career in weather below 40 degrees

+SI's Dr. Z picking the Saints to win (we ALL know who Dr. Z is, right fellas?

Equals, Bears beating the Saints down.

I wish Dr. Z picked us to finish last in the NFL every year. Seriously.

He's like some kind of reverse jinx.

Play of the Game:

Brad Maynard's punt when only leading by 2 that went out of bounds at the 5 year line. At that time, the Saints had all the momentum and that punt set up the Safety. After that, the Bears didn't look back.

Good call. Since we are patting each other on the back here is what I stated the Bears needed to do to win:

This is really how I think the Bears need to attack the Saints. Shadow Tillman on Colston the entire game. He will match up well. Then throw everything you have to stop the run game.

Try and make Brees beat you with passes to the other receivers. What is Joe Horn's status for this game?

In terms of stopping the run game that is exactly what they did. I was a little disspointed in the Tillman/Colston matchup,(Colston can freakin move for a big guy) plus they did a good job of getting Colston down the middle of the field and matched up on our safeties.

Colston ranks as one of the greatest scouting failures since Kurt Warner and Tom Brady.

I love these big WR/TE hybrids that come from small schools. A few years ago I was pleading for the Bears to take Vicent Jackson from Northern Colorado. We saw how good he can be this year.

Colston is basically a T.O. or a Burress without the attitude. He's gonna be a big big big-time NFL wide receiver. Especially if he sticks with Brees.

I hate to jump to conclusions, but is anyone ready to can the Danielle Manning experiment? He has so far to go, even if he does make strides in the offseason, he will still be a below average saftey.

So the Bears will be picking either 30-31, how much will it take to trade up to 10-15 to select Laron Landry? Our first rounder in '08 + a 2nd this year? Lets franchise Briggs and trade the farm for Landry. We have to depth to pull it off.

I agree, Manning is pretty bad at times. Although I guess you can't blame him for being able to tackle a streaking Reggie Bush in the open field, he took an awful route to him and really had no shot at him when he got there.

I would potentially trade Ogunleye for a mid first rounder and get Landry. Mark Anderson is the cheaper option to fit his role, as much as I love Wally and recognize how he stepped up last week

I was thinking the same thing in terms of Ogun. Would the Bears take a cap hit from trading him though?

Posted

The reason we're so good on D is partly our depth on DL, I wouldn't trade away Ogun just because Anderson is capable of starting.

I think Manning will make the strides needed, JA doesn't trade up in the draft normally.

Right now I think the Saints D is better.

Update?

Come on, this is toeing the line of arrogance, isn't it?

Reggie Bush is awesome but it was amazing to see how fast Urlacher was on that play. He didn't catch Bush but he was leading the pursuit.

Funny that everyone thought the keys of the game were Rex and Deuce and it turned out to be Thomas Jones and Reggie Bush.

Give me a break, guy. Just having some fun here.

That is if OMC doesn't mind you busting his chops. I think he's been pretty good about all this.

I'm not trying to kick the man when he's down but he went out on a limb with that statement and it kind of stuck with me.

No hard feelings though. Saints fans should be thrilled, obviously. Their team is in the up and ups big time.

I thought Reggie Bush's somersault was a bit more arrogant than Chocolate Milk's post, but luckily for CM, his post won't live forever in infamy like Reggie's flip.

HAHA! Do it again Reggie. Way to put personal performance before team performance!

That move is stupid IMO, you screw it up one time, and one time is all it takes, and you are paralyzed for life. It probably won't happen to Bush, because he is so athletic, but what about some younger kid trying to emulate it?

That's what amazed me as well, I knew Bush was gone but, the speed Urlacher showed was incredible. Who wins a foot race between Bush and Hester?

It's called smack talk. I'm never going to say my team sucks before a big game.

That said, I feel that one or two good natured pokes are ok after the game. What you said was fine. I'm eating crow today for sure. It's when people openly mock someone after a game that bothers me.

That surprised everyone at the Saints party I was at as well. After we got done jumping up and down and watched the replay, none of us could believe that Urlacher was outrunning the DB's. He's a complete freak of nature that guy. Definitely not somebody you want to taunt.
