Once the Saints committed to passing the game was over. THe Bears DLinman pinned their ears back and actually pressured the QB for the first time in months. Didn't Payton even confine in the reporter at halftime that they would try to win primarlly via the pass?

Yeah I remember hearing that as well. Dumb decision.

That, and practicing the team indoors all week

The Bears coaching staff also had some lowlights as well too, those blitz packages drawn up by Riveria are just terrible. Lets work on that in the offseason.

Yep, he said it. The safety, IMO, was a direct result of the Saints completely disregarding the need to run the ball. They ran 4 times in the 2nd half, and 3 times in the 2nd quarter (not including the Brees scramble). And this was when the game was 6-0 and 16-14. Still very manageable for the Saints. Really no reason for everybody on the Dline to be able to pin back when you are at your 5 yard line, because they know you aren't gonna run the ball.

Those passes deep in their own end were not good calls, agreed.

Part of all this is the experience factor too. Lovie went to the playoffs last year---that whole team did---and pretty much got plastered by a more experienced club. It makes a difference. You know what to expect the 2nd time around.

The longest Cubs game thread this year was on opening day and had 1729 posts - almost 400 less than this one currently has. The Super Bowl thread is going to be insane.

And by "more experienced club" you must mean "Steve Smith".

I'm riding such a high right now I can't see the Bears losing the Super Bowl, and I honestly don't know how I'll feel if they do. I could be destroyed, or I could be content with how the season has gone.

Either way I don't want to see how i'd react.

I've come to terms with the Colts being our opponents, and honestly, you gotta play the best to be the best. We got our challenge here. If we are to be champions of the NFL, we gotta beat these guys.

Wojciechowski ESPN.com article

On the home page it's entitled "My Kool-Aid tastes like crow" and he addresses his questioning of the Bears and mentioned the press conference moment between himself and Lovie. Figured you Bears fans would like it.

This is true. NFL scouts, ESPN experts, hacks like myself all considered the Bears a vulnerable team. Their quarterback, Rex Grossman, was a 1,000-piece puzzle. Their defense was no longer overpowering. Meanwhile, the Saints had the No. 1 offense, an unflappable quarterback, an underrated defense, and all of that Hurricane Katrina-related feel-good story karma.

So in the postgame interview session with the giddy (for him) Smith, I figured it was time to accept my fate. If you take your shots at a coach and a team -- and I've taken my share at Smith and the Bears during the last four weeks -- then you better be prepared for the payback.

"You talked about a lot of people around the country picking the Saints in this game --"

"And you were one of them, Gene," interrupted Smith.

Go get 'em, Lovie.

How about Berard Berrian! This guy is becoming an elite WR.

In fact how about the Angelo drafts, simply stockpiling talent.

Just some impact Angelo picks

2002

3 93 Terrence Metcalf G Mississippi

4 104 Alex Brown DE Florida

6 199 Adrian Peterson RB Georgia Southern

2003

1 22 Rex Grossman QB Florida

2 35 Charles Tillman CB Louisiana-Lafayette

3 68 Lance Briggs OLB Arizona

4 100 Todd Johnson FS Florida

4 116 Ian Scott NT Florida

2004

1 14 Tommie Harris DT Oklahoma

2 47 Tank Johnson DT Washington

3 78 Bernard Berrian WR Fresno State

4 110 Nathan Vasher CB Texas

4 112 Leon Joe OLB Maryland

2005

1 4 Cedric Benson RB Texas

2 39 Mark Bradley WR Oklahoma

4 106 Kyle Orton QB Purdue

6 181 Chris Harris FS Louisiana-Monroe

2006 could even be the best with Devin Hester and Mark Anderson, although Danielle Manning has me concerned, he has alot of work to do.

Putting 2002 up there is being a little dishonest to yourself. Everyone knows that was a complete waste of a draft. One starter and 2 back ups is a successful draft? Not quite.

2004 will probably go down as the best. 4 Solid starters? 3 pro-bowl apperances. One player who has just been money in the playoffs. (Check Berrian's stats in the Panthers game too) Hell yeah. (I guess I should say 2003 over it, but I expect it to be soooo good that we lose Lance Briggs because of it  )

yeah, 2002 did suck. Although, had Colombo not got hurt, he probably would be are starting RT right now.

Well, even though I wanted the Saints to win for divisional pride, etc., a part of me has also felt bad since last year for what Steve Smith did to you guys (and what Lovie Smith did to you guys re: Steve Smith), so I'm also glad to have the Bears in the Super Bowl.

The bad news for Bears fans: My 2-8 playoff picking record is going with the Bears over the Colts.
