Think maybe now the Cubs regret giving Ramirez an escape clause rather than additional money in the four-year, $42 million deal he signed at the start of the 2005 season?

If the Cubs had increased the size of that contract, say, by an additional $10 million, Ramirez almost certainly would have dropped his demand for the out clause. The Cubs then would have kept him through '08 at a significantly lesser salary than the one they offered — and Ramirez rejected — in their latest talks.

Penny wise, Pound stupid. Same old story.

I am done with this joke of an organization for the time being. They don't give two craps about us, they feed us the same line every few years and proceed to lose 90 games.

Agreed.

I'm so sick of the Cubs.

I wonder what Notre Dame player Hendry will draft with the pick. Ramirez is a type A free agent, correct?

If he's not the system has absolutely no merit whatsoever.

That's our Hendry! I can't wait to see what Hendry gets at the dollar store this off season.

I didn't see anywhere in that article where Aram stated "he would not re-sign with the Cubs"

We can still keep him, if Hendry ponies up.

Yeah that will happen. We always outbid other teams for the top talent. Get ready for David Bell.

Starting to believe all the home team discount stuff is just a load of crap. I'm sure the Cubs are offering A-Ram a good contract, I just think it is becoming obvious that he wants to flirt with some other teams.

Despite what has been said by ramirez and his agent, I highly doubt the Cubs are his #1 choice. If they were, a deal would have been done a long time ago.

Mike Lowell for three decent minor leaguers.

Why do I get the feeling that the difference between Hendry and Aramis/Kinzler was something like $2 million per. In other words, the cost of a Glendon Rusch.

Screw you, Jimbo.

Jesus I am not buzzed enough for this shizit...

If the Cubs let Ramirez walk, what are they going to do, sign Aubrey Huff and pray for a freaking miracle?

Again, I want to know what we would have had to have paid to get Aram to sign before the deadline. Unless it's A-Rod level, I'm going to be damn pissed that we didn't take the offer.

This is on you Hendry. You just let the franchise slip away. Now you have to pursue him as aggresively as you do Soriano, and pay whatever it takes to sign him.

Good grief. I'm so tired of this team!

Ok, this is off the wall, but:

Zambrano 6/65 (20, 11, 11, 11, 11, 11)

Barrett 4/30 (15, 5, 5, 5)

Drew 4/50 (14, 9, 9, 9, 9)

Catalanotto 3/15 (7, 4, 4)

Schmidt 4/48 (18, 10, 10, 10)

Trade: Izturis, Jones, Dempster (eating $5 mil. total) So we've spent the $115 mil. and the club actually has a shot at being good in a year or two. (They'd have $35 mil.+ to spend next off season to fill holes.)

Theriot/Cedeno -SS

Murton/Catalanotto -LF

Lee -1B

Drew -RF

Moore/Coats -3B

Patterson/Fontenot -2B

Barrett/Soto -C

Pie -CF

Zambrano

Schmidt

Hill

Prior/Miller

Marshall/Guzman/Marmol/Mateo/Gallagher

I'd be much happier with that than what's likely to happen.
