The number of Chicago journalists and Cubs blogs rooting that this would happen are now suddenly infuriating me one thousand fold.

 

IvyChat was smarmy enough as it is before, but now it's going to be insufferable.

Crappy players who hustle are the wave of the future. Besides, it's not like there's a way to calculate A-Ram's value to a team. And what's with all the time he just spent standing around third base? It's like he was just waiting for something to happen. Lazy.

I was going to write a long angry rant, but I just don't have it in me. Hendry has failed. And he'll continue to fail because he's not good at his job. He's in in over his head, and he always has been.

 

And now he and McDonough are going to force feed some BS marketing on the fans and convince a lot of them everything's great because that's easier than assembling a good team. That's easier than having a clear, effective plan regarding player acquisition and adhering to it. That's easier than investing a lot of money in good players.

 

Yep, we're going to hear the same tired song--"we made a competitive offer, and it was rejected," followed by a lengthy mear campaign RE: ARam's hustle. And then we're gonna seem some Shane Andrews 2.0 plugged into RF, and they're going to talk about the great year he had at XXXX, even though it was really a mediocre year, but if you look at one stat, ONE SPECIFIC STAT--maybe it's avg. this time, maybe it's RBIs, whatever--it doesn't look that bad.

 

But anyone who scrutinizes it all will realize this Ron Coomer/Steve Buechelle hybrid they're gonna drag off the scrap heap sucks, just like the team, just like the organization, just like the people who run it.

 

Right on. That BS about payroll and contending for a World Series was nothing more that lip service. There's no point in increasing your payroll if you're not going to resign your own FA, who just so happens to be the best available FA.

 

I cannot wait for the smear job to really kick in, now that he's likely gone. :roll:

As much play as the hustle crap gets, I think the average fan knows that Ramirez is one of the best hitters on this team and losing him for some schmuck like DeRosa would be a decided step down.

the most messed up thing is now I don't want them to win the Matsuzaka so Hendry can't hide this behind his posting victory.

I just don't get it. Hendry is on a shot leash after MacPhail has left, and new mangement is in. Hendry has this offseason to prove that he is worth a damn, and not even a month after the world series, he has already guaranteed failure for this franchise, and himself. I mean, even if he wasnt going to do anything else this offseason, he could have done THIS. He could have made up all the lame BS after he signed Ramirez about "well we retained the players we needed, and we feel we can compete with that". Right now, that outlook looks better than the one our status quo. I could live with. But instead, Hendry proves he is the most incompetent GM in all of baseball and puts up A MILLION steps backwards before he even takes a step forward. I am so sick of this team, and there outdated philosphies, the horribly put together teams, and the all around dysfuntion of this franchise. I honestly think Hendry wants to ruin the cubs.

I think the Dodgers get him. They love former Cubs these days and aren't afraid to pay for the players Hendry tightens the pursestrings for.

I think most of the fanbase would be placated with Mark Derosa and Soriano. I think Aramis is wildly underrated by the casual fan.
