Someone on Cubs.com posted a link for the NY Post, and it said the Cubs were 1 of 4 teams in the hunt. The others being the Yanks, Mets, and the Red Sox. I would post the link, but I'm computer stupid, so I'll the the smart guys do that.

Anyone else think the total package for DM with contract and posting fee it could top a 100M?

I don't think it tops 6/75 total.

The Lions then have four business days to accept or reject the bid. If they reject, they will keep Matsuzaka. If they accept, Matsuzaka has 30 days to negotiate with the team that made the bid. If he fails to work out a contract, he returns to Japan, and the bid is returned to the team that made it.

The winning bid is expected to be around $20 million, with the Yankees, the Mets, the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs among the teams said to be interested.

Thus began a window of four business days for teams to submit sealed bids to Lou Melendez, a vice president of Major League Baseball. The bidding ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday, when baseball will notify the Lions of the amount of the highest bid, but not the team that submitted it.

what is the timeline for these postings? Is everyone on the same timeline? Is there a deadline?

Thanks

Check the thread, it's been asked several times recently.

Gee Thanks. Not really interested in searching through 28 pages when it could have been answered in the same time you typed your response.

Besides, my question was more general. Are all Bids for all posted players to be completed by Wednesday?

So unless Aramis signs before Wenesday the most important day of the Cubs offseason could come on Wenesday.

If we do end up getting Daisuke, does that mean are chances of resigning Ramirez go down?

Not to be a jerk, but he did say it was recently in the thread... so you didn't really have to search ALL 28 pages for the answer.

NY Times[/url]"]Boras has tried to give Matsuzaka some control over his destination. The Seattle Mariners said last week that they would not make a bid, without stating a reason. The Los Angeles Dodgers also publicly dropped out, citing the cost.

Boras would not say so directly, but he might have let those teams know that Matsuzaka did not want to play for them.

“We’ve been candid with teams about where we would want to go, or more importantly where we would not want to go,” Boras said. “And you’ve probably seen the response to that.”

Interesting if true. It would make a lot more sense as to why a team like Seattle or LA wouldn't make a bid for Matsuzaka.

So then that narrows it down to what? The east coast and midwest teams? I wonder if Bora's relationship with the Cubs has helped prevent him from eliminating us. Or maybe Matsuzaka is genuinely interested in joining us. Which would be a welcome change.

This is a kind of huge news if the latter is true. It would definately help with future asian imports even if we don't end up getting Dai.

Is it possible the Cubs could put in the winning bid and then trade the rights for Matsuzuka to the Yankees for Arod?

That's an intriguing possibility I'd never thought about. Pay the posting fee to have him as a trading chip. I wonder if there's something in the CBA against that, but it's not a sign and trade because the person doesn't have a contract and isn't a free agent.

The Padres did it with Irabu, didn't they?

I'm not sure I'd do a Matsuzaka for A-Rod trade, even if I could. Yes Yes, i know it goes against logic to take an unproven player over a bonafide star, but there are other ways to get offense outside of Rodriguez. Matsuzaka on the other hand is our best bet at immediately improving the rotation. I would do it however if we don't resign Aram

That was a little different. Irabu never went through the posting system. According to Wikipedia and the Baseball Cube, the Padres purchased Irabu's contract by sending them two players from their organization. The exclusive right given to the Padres by Irabu's team, the Chiba Lotte Marines, was protested by the MLB Player's Union.

But, in essence, the exclusive right to negotiate with Irabu was traded, so unless there are specific rules written against it as the CBA stands now, I suppose it could happen with Matsuzaka.
