The fact is that bunting is the most important part of Corey's success, with speed coming in a close second.

That's absurd. It may be an important part, but it's not close to being the most important part.

Besides, so what if he does have success bunting? Bunts are hits, too. And a main reason he's successful at bunting is largely due to A) his speed and B) his power, not necessarily in that order. People don't expect him to bunt once (or more) per game like Pierre, so they don't always play in on him. They need to respect the fact that he can hit the ball with some authority. If he bunted more often, people would probably expect it more often and defend him differently.

The fact is that bunting is the most important part of Corey's success, with speed coming in a close second. These are also things the Cubs worked extensively on with him when he was here. Quite frankly, he should be bunting twice as much as he is.

It was the last sentence's philosophy that made Corey so bad with the Cubs.

If he gets 9 hits in 12 attempts, why wouldn't he get at least 5 in another 12?

Because teams would play him in more. And he would be giving up his power potential.

Not to mention the fact that he really wasn't that good at it.

According to BK, he was at least over .600 at it.

Except that's not really a fact at all. Actually, the exact opposite is true.

Looking back at the numbers my memory must have exaggerated a tad. Corey bunted 36 times in 2004, with the following breakdowns: 16 hits, 15 outs/FC/RoE, and 5 sacrifices. So he didn't hit .600 on bunt attempts in 2004, "just" .516. On a semi-interesting note, 32 of those 36 bunts came on the first pitch Corey saw in that AB.

Here is the true test...

My fantasy team jinx!!!

*Releases Dmitri Young, adds Corey Patterson to OF slot #3*

Poor Corey. :(

No kidding...

With Derrek Lee still at my 1b slot, Aubrey Huff, Dmitri Young, and Matsui in my OF slots (now Corey in for Young and Matthews in for Godzilla), Chavez at 3rd (hammie tear),4 of my 5 pitchers sent back to the minors, etc..

Im starting to think my fantasy curse is for real.

Might I suggest you pick up Neifi and Glendon and take one for the team?

Wow, I hadn't even checked their site for an update tonight. Coincidences rule.

My personal favorite came from yesterday:

2 more infield singles for Patterson.

Looks like one was a line drive single to right.

Nope. One yesterday, one the day before.

Go Corey. God I wish both he and Gary Matthews would make the all star team.

i can't even figure out what your point is in this thread. you seem to be saying that bunting is the key to corey's success this year, even though it's been shown that he bunted successfully at the same rate in 2004 (when he wasn't very good).
