Patterson is pretty much doing what he did here in 2003, the first five months of '04, and the first two months of '05. We've seen it before, but the organization wanted more. Instead of batting him seventh and leaving him alone, they just jerked him around to the point that he was worthless at the end of last year. And then the team had to make a decision.

The truth is, they don't have enough confidence in themselves to make tough decisions. Why else bring in Pierre? I believe they thought he would be what he was, give him an extension, and trade Pie for a veteran OFer. Pierre is really messing this up.

If Hendry had gone into the season with Pattercon in CF, and he didn't hit, yeah, we'd all be calling for his head. But that's their job. They shouldn't get a pass for giving him away.

Next up to be destroyed by the Cubs only to find his career blossom elsewhere?

Matt Murton.

Bet on it.

If I was a betting man, I'd go with Prior.

That would mega suck. Wish I could argue it.

I don't think he, or anyone else, can rob a homerun at wrigley.

Yeah, I know. I was making a futile attempt at sarcastic wit.

the situation is not funny. are you making light of my suffering? incidentally, corey will not sustain those numbers.

I doubt he'll keep up the batting average unless he further reduces the k's. But I think the secondary numbers can all stay where they're at.

they will go down with the BA. Still, I think for a CF he will be decent. He is overrated defensively though - at least around here.

NSBB.com or the Platte River Valley? I think some do overrated his defense, but it's much better than Pierre's and very good.

I agree that he's better than Pierre, but I'm not sure about "very good."

His range has always been spectacular. Defensive metrics that measure range (and nothing else) place him among the best CFers in baseball. Other metrics that take other factors into account, like Davenport's, for example, rank him as below average over his career.

But I would never have traded Patterson for Pierre straight up. Instead, Hendry gave away Patterson for what will probably amount to nothing while giving up three pitchers for Pierre.

I still can't believe we're paying Pierre more than we would have had to pay Patterson to be a worse player, and we had to give up several good prospects for the privilege to do so.

denver loves corey's defense . . . Corey isn't a gold glover. his arm is ok but not great and he gets poor reads on flyballs. if he were slower, he would be a very bad centerfielder.

Lousy solo shots...

I'm tired of comments like this. He can't force people to get on base.

Home runs are home runs. You can't choose for them to be meaningful or not.

And that's where OBP comes into play.

I'm about 95% sure he was being sarcastic.

Patterson was a bum in Chicago. Why you people are second guessing the deal to me dosent make any sense. Patterson couldnt lay off a high fastball and a low fastball in the dirt to save his life in chicago. He couldnt get on base, he couldnt hit a cutoff man, and he couldnt utilize his speed.

I would take Pierre over Patterson anyday

You are so wrong on this point alone, that it is not worth discussing this with you.

Whoever you want to place the blame on for Corey's 05 output (Corey himself, Dusty, Sarge, Hendry, minor league coaches), there's no denying that his season in 05 was as bad as you'd see out of Neifi.

He wasn't a "bum," but he wasn't much better than average either.

(Edited a potential semantics nightmare)

"Patterson in Chicago" refers to more than '05 to me.
