That was much better. Although crappy hitters tend to make it easier, which explains why crappy pitchers do so well against the Cubs.

Jones = Dye

the bench/DH, Sox unquestionably better.

hasn't exactly worked out that way

Jones < Dye

Dye was surprisingly good last year and has kept it up so far this year. It was either him or Burnitz in 05...

yes. last year. the past three, the past five, whichever you choose, there isn't a whole lot of difference offensively. my reflection was on my thoughts from February. Burnitz was not in the picture.

Oh, I know. I just think it would have been reasonable to expect Dye to be better than Jones this year, too.

Baker doesn't really have many options, I suppose, but there are better options than that.

Actually, I'm not sure he does. The options are Bynum, Theriot, Mabry and Jock. The only guy half-way decent in that group is Jock, and he doesn't hit lefties. You can't do much with the roster as currently constituted.

Edit: I would give Theriot a shot over Neifi, however. The kid couldn't be any worse.

NEIFI SAVED US!

What did he do? Sacrifice himself for our sins?

Not really. He was born on another planet and came to earth with limitless baseball ability. But the love of a woman brought him to give up all those powers and live like a mere mortal. Hendry and Dusty know this, and think he's such an honorable man he should be allowed to live the life of a major league player, even if he's not qualified to be one.

Greg, you're allowed to keep the ball below belt-high.

Not if he wants the ump to call strikes.

Good, quick inning.

Not that high. He's thrown quite a few that have been in the same spot as the one he threw to Thome, which are quite crushable.

In related news, Cubs hitters are allowed by MLB rules to take pitches out of the zone.

That's funny. I heard Neifi was born in an uncivilized part of South America and raised by wolves.

Did Hughes just say Lee is "at least 3 weeks from playing in an actual game?"

I mean, I know he said "at least," but that still seems pretty optimistic.

"They say Hairston's grandfather was one of the best hitters in the negro leagues. I don't know about that, but he had the numbers to prove it."

What?

Hahaha, that makes no sense.

Neither does sliding into first.
