I like Pierre. Discuss.

Pierre isn't very good.

I'll take him for a couple of Rule 5 guys that wouldn't make the 40 man if Hendry can swing that.

Depending on the price I'd be pretty okay with it. It keeps Dusty from EVER batting Neifi leadoff, it doesn't necessarily preclude us from signing Furcal if we want to, but it gives us leverage. He's a FA after this year, and will probably be a A type FA, so we get a draft pick if/when he walks, and he will be an improvment over the tripe we had at the top last year.

Having said all that, it all swings on the player cost to aquire. If it's reasonable, then it's a good move. If we give up a Pie, Hill, Pinto or Masrhall, it's not.

I agree. I can't imagine Pie or Hill but I really see Pinto as a guy that may go in this trade.

I hope not. With Florida being motivated to move Pierre due to salary reasons I think Mitre and Greenberg seems fair. I would avoid trading Pinto unless it is in a deal to get an impact bat like Abreu or Dunn.

You really don't respect Jim Bowden's intelligence if you think we're getting Wilkerson for Corey. Not that I'd complain! :P

But you have Baker and Hendrys goofy ideas on what a leadoff hitter should be and this is what we have to deal with. I do not agree with them but IMO we might have to geuss the players they want and are going to get not the ones we would like to see aquired. That's the frustrating part...guessing unproductive players and who the Cubs will give up for them.

Definitely. And honestly I would take Pierre as a replacement for Corey if a Corey trade landed us an impact RF bat. I just don't think it'd be necessary to replace Corey with Pierre.

It's good to see that Hendry is finally set on getting a leadoff man. I wont complain if Pierre is our CF next year, especially considering the crap that we had out there this past year.

What is Pierre's salary next season?

He made 3.7M last season. I thought I heard someone on this board toss around a 6M figure for his 06 salary but I can't confirm that.

That's a pretty hefty raise in arbitration. I wouldn't imagine it'd be over 5, given his down year in '05.

I'm not against a trade for Pierre on face value. On the other hand, I am against paying too much to get him. If Mitre + Brownlie is the cost, sure. If it's going to cost Hill or one of the top prospects (including Pie), then I'm against such a deal.

I'd prefer Bradley or Wilkerson in CF to Pierre. I'd rather see if it is much cheaper to get Bradley than go after the over-rated Pierre.

thats the rumor. i'm sure the cubs would have to include another player or 2 but robinson supposedly really likes patterson so who knows? there is another whole thread on the subject. pierre & wilkerson would be a MAJOR improvement in obp for next year so i would be very happy with an of of murton, pierre & wilkerson.

Me either but the lineup maker is going to put Perez at the leadoff otherwise until a typical leadoff guy is found.

i think the cubs would sooner sign phil bradley than trade for milton bradley.

Thanks for the reply but you may want to put some time into your reply so that you may actually make a point or better yet make some sense.

i didn't find it difficult to comprehend

Good for you and thanks for making another post about nothing. You get one gold star. :D

PMSing?

That was original.

Seriously, why do you keep wasting posts with nothing to say?

Same reason you attempt to belittle those that disagree with your ideas. Why not just state your case without the petty attacks your posts are known for.

 With 8 pages of talk on Pierre, you want to keep digging up this topic?

Where did you see that Marshall threw mid-90's? Every scouting report I have seen, shows him throwing in the 88-90 range.

BA's 2004 Top Ten Prospects per Team report. They said he worked in the 88-92 range, but could dial it up to 95 when the situation called for it.

Thanks for digging that up. I didn't realize he could reach the mid 90's.

If it's true that Hendry wouldn't give up Hill for Dunn I hope to God he wouldn't trade him for Pierre.

Anyone think Pie will be ready in 2005? Or we still may have a chance for Giles?

If it's true that Hendry wouldn't give up Hill for Dunn straight up, he doesn't deserve to be a GM of a big market team.

I think Rich Hill has been overrated quite a bite. If we can get a solid leadoff hitter who can steal 50 bases...I'm all for it.

There's no reason to give up Hill for Pierre. Didn't Hendry say he wouldn't trade Hill for Dunn? Of course, Pierre might be better than Dunn in Hendry's twisted world  . Sadly, I woulnd't even be that surprised if that trade went down.

I could live with Wilkerson in CF but I am not sure he thrills me in RF batting 5th. He only hit .248 with 11 HR's last year. His OPS was pretty much the same as Burnitz.
