The fact that Sean Marshall is involved in trade talks is making me leery.

Marshall is one of those high ceiling lefties who has performed admirably in the minors. He's had a history of success along with a few minor injuries derailing his numbers and playing time. He's a sinkerballer who can dial it up to the mid-90s. He has good secondary pitches. As far as I can tell, his injuries are unrelated and are not the lingering type. His ceiling is pretty good, to boot.

Trading him to the Marlins in a deal for Juan Pierre might not be the best of ideas, imo.

Where did you see that Marshall threw mid-90's? Every scouting report I have seen, shows him throwing in the 88-90 range.

I'll reserve judgement on the wiseness of this move until I see if it happens, and who it is we give up.

If it's Nolasco and Soto, or something like that, great. If it's a combo of Hill Pinto or Marshall I'll retch.

If Hendry wouldn't trade Hill for Dunn, why would he trade him and another player for Pierre?

And knowing Hendry's history of trades, doesn't it seem highly unlikely he would trade 2 of his top LH pitching prospects?

I suppose it depends on how desperate he is and through what lens he views Pierre. Hendry, in all probability overvalues Pierre to the 10th degree. He sees tools-speed, defense, a sparkplug at the top of the order. He knows that a good chunk of the fanbase would be thrilled to get a "old school" leadoff guy, so he probably thinks he's worth more than he is.

Having said that, I think the deal will fall somewhere between the 2 extremes. I don't think it'll be for Patterson/Mitre, and don't think it'll be for Hill/Marshall. I'd guess maybe Ryu and Nolasco.

Good for you and thanks for making another post about nothing. You get one gold star. :D

If you want to talk about Pierre talk about Pierre otherwise, please refrain from wasting space with these posts. It adds nothing to the discussion.

Hah, didn't he trade D-Train to the Marlins?

At the time, that deal looked great.

Clement and Alfonseca for hardly anyone.

I agree with your assessment. I'm sure that Hendry will have to give someone of value to get Pierre, but I doubt it will be two of Hill, Marshall, and Pinto.

Due to the 40 man roster crunch, the Cubs are unlikely to have the space to protect all of those guys anyways. Might as well get some value for them.

Willis was an unfortunate coincidence. I don't think anyone thought that one year after that trade that Willis would even be in the majors let alone tearing up the league like he did his first few months.

Maybe people don't realize but Soto was added to the 40 man roster. Hendry's plan appears to be to have him repeat at Iowa, and have him take over as back up catcher in 2007. Now if Hendry is looking to clear space on the roster and acknowledges that Soto doesnt project as anything more than a backup he might be traded, but then again, other teams see him as the same. I dont know many teams taht would care to trade a starter for a backup catcher.

Does anyone have any idea who would play CF for the Marlins next season if Pierre is gone? Hopefully a deal could make the Marlins want Rowand or Anderson in a deal for Delgado (pipe dream).

I like Pierre. Discuss.

I dont mind having Pierre or Furcal but I IMO I dont want to see both here. If they both come here chances are Cedeno will be at 2nd and we will be lacking power. I think having 1 of the 2 would be good enough.

Pierre isn't very good.

I could easily see him having a .350 OBP year. As long as the Cubs don't give up too much I could see him being a nice stop gap. Not everyone on your team can be a superstar.

andy MacPhail was the gm that made that trade.

That's a good point. I'm not a huge Pierre fan but if we don't give up too much for him, he'd still be a huge improvement over our CF production last year.
