    ok. his team had a 100 mil+ payroll and finished in fourth place and with a losing record. enough said Let's not forget all the injuries that cost the Cubs star players. There is not a doubt in my mind that if Dusty Baker had a healthy squad, we may have at least one ring to brag about in the past 2 years. Not to sound too apologetic on Baker's part. You can't disregard the injuries to the pitching staff, Nomar, and others. And I don't think anyone (including Baker) want a championship more than the true Cub fans do. NOBODY. And what's the excuse for 03?

    Bingo!! It was just a matter of time before whatever was ailing Prior was revealed. Did Cubs management really think they fooling anyone with their constant stream of "he's (Prior) healthy we're just taking it slowly" rhetoric? If I'm Jim Hendry I'd go into next offseason with the premise that Prior, because of injury history, is a non-factor. I'd build a rotation without him or Wood for that matter. In fact, after this season I believe Wood is done as Cub, unless he's willing to take a tremendous paycut with an incentive laden contract. Thank you !!! I don't get the obstacles involved with accepting this concept.

    I don't know... that line somewhat scares me, especially like overpaying Neifi to name one... And I don't buy the old "The Cubs will have x number of dollars to spend". The same thing was said about the "Sammy money" and I'd be very interested to see last years payroll compared to this years. I don't think there's a big difference.

    Logical by categorizing future events without any factual information or even speculation? And since you bumped up the BP thread while referencing only half of what he reported, do you care to comment on the other half? I would say it's a fact that if a pitcher is healthy, he pitches. He doesn't throw simulated games or towel tosses or long tosses unless he's rehabbing or injured. That's not speculating. It's taking the info given and making a logical conclusion, no matter what the Cubs say regarding said pitchers health. Can you name another team's healthy ace that is still throwing on the side this spring or still long tossing or throwing a towel? Climbing up on the mound and pitching shouldn't be a real battle.......if the pitcher is healthy. It doesn't take a crystal ball to see that. As far as the Wood comments , that's a non-issue to me. Prior is who I'm worried about. Wood is a project in my book. He may make it back to the rotation in May, after the Cubs said last year he'll be ready for opening day, but it's a pretty good bet he'll be injured at some other point. That's what so maddening about not signing another starting pitcher. You cannot continue to count on the health of these two pitchers.

    Just a heads up to all Cub fans who thought that there was nothing to worry about..... Next spring, if a pitcher does not throw off a mound you can safely assume two things: 1. He's rehabbing 2. He's injured This is not a conspiracy theory or a "sky is falling" attitude. It's called being realistic and logical.

    I also found it very odd that Santo, the ultimate company man, on the first spring telecast specifically mentioned that Walker may not have the range to play everyday due to his knee problem. When I heard Santo talk about Walker like that, I figured he had to have had info from someone about who they wanted to start at 2nd.

    Yes. Absolutely nothing should be read into this injury, due to the almost spotless health history of Kerry Wood.

    I'd like to apologize for even bringing this up. Who cares who cheats. Who cares if baseball is tainted because of this. I guess I should just focus on the WBC and spring training. My bad.

    Forget Wood. Wood cannot and should not be counted on to consistently start games. Prior has to be the Prior of old for the Cubs to have any chance.

    If he was healthy, like they say he is, then he would be pitching. Until he starts pitching in games, one can only assume he isn't healthy. There is no arguing that point.

    Heard the laughable "Dusty Baker" show. After Ron and him both agreed that there was no point in bringing up last year, Dusty proceded to list the reasons for last years failure. Too young, too many injuries, specifically brought up the fact that Dempster HAD to start once Wood was injured. Convientley left out the part that Rusch, not Dempster, should have been starting. Needless to say, he's in mid-season form already. Also noticed Santo specifically brought up the fact that even though Walker is healthy, his range just isn't there. Hmmmm.....

    This whole process is ridiculous. How about just playing a tape of Harry singing the strectch? It doesn't have to be the Tonight Show, where somebody comes on to promote their new show/book/movie. Ridiculous.

    Really says a lot when prime bleacher seats are $40 a pop now... And how much has the payroll increased during that same time period?........

    How would anyone know if this team was more focused? It's February. Just because a few players show up skinnier doesn't change anything.
