Nothing is hot at the moment. The Cubs would love Kearns, but they can't find a match. The Reds aren't the easiest team with which to deal, especially within the division. Nothing on Pierre. Everybody's looking for relief help. Hendry's got nothing imminent there. Talk to you guys soon.

Thanks for the update Bruce. Hopefully you'll keep us in touch on what the Cubs will be doing next.

Welp, I guess that pretty much settles it. No Dunn.

Thanks for checking in during the game, Bruce!

The bolded sentence makes me extremely happy. :D

Is anybody else kinda hoping Bruce is channeling the spirit of the rest of the Chicago-media right now and is completely wrong?

Bruce, I really wish I didn't know you're usually right.

I just want to know why the Cubs value Hill so much.

Or hate Dunn so much. Wait, I think I know why they wouldn't like Dunn, and it depresses me.

I think it's a combination of overvaluing Hill and underappreciating Dunn.

hahaha

I told my sister that this couldn't possibly be true, because the Cubs were too dumb to like a guy like Dunn. I'm right.

Gracias for the info...

While I'd trade Hill for Dunn, Hill does have a very high ceiling.

umm....

who was it earlier in the season that reported the Cubs had made a deal for a big power bat, and that more details would follow later in the day.....thus causing page after page of speculation on here....then proceeded to say absolutely nothing about the deal ever again - like he never said it?

Bruce Levine. Not Bruce Miles.

Yeah, I believe it was Bruce Levine. Definitely not Bruce Miles.

Because the organization doesn't appreciate the offensive value of walks.

I thought so....just making sure. I didn't recall Miles saying anything like that....but for a second curiousity got the better of me :(

something has still got to be going on though - Burnitz in Center - Kearns is brought up.....

ahh, screw it. Enough false speculation. All this hope for nothing.

And I dont get the love affair with Hill?

Not that I don't agree that with all the principle players playing tonight that this seems like a bogus rumor, but to be honest I am not sure I see where Bruce Miles now knows that the Cubs and Hendry would not trade Dunn straight up for Rich Hill. I mean did he have a conversation with Hendry and say would you do Dunn for Hill and Hendry said no way--do we really think Hendry is telling ANYONE what they would do. Especially not another member of the media.

All that said, I agree with the rest that this all is pretty far fetched.

I think Bruce Miles has excellent insight into what Hendry is thinking.

Shame on the trade rumor. Bruce is almost always right, so I'm not going to hold my breath. As far as SweetEmotion, he seems like a guy who was trying to give out the best info possible. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Just hope his Reds source wasn't playing a cruel joke on him (and by extension, us).

gonna have to go against Bruce there's no way Hendry does not do a Hill for Dunn. If the line had been along Hill and Patterson is not much a match for Dunn with Hendry. But to come out and say Hendry wouldn't do a Hill for Dunn straight up has to be wrong.

I don't fault SweetEmotion on posting a trade rumor, even if it is false. I'll give that person the benefit of the doubt.

I know of teams (not the Cubs) scouting other team's minor league players, but I keep that to myself.

Exactly. I personally would make that deal, but people are making Hill sound like he's nothing. If he continues to improve and maintain the control the way he has this year, he has the potential to be a front of the rotation starter.

This is the lefty who has a 1.03 WHIP in over 100 IP this year in AA, AAA and the majors to go along with 158 K's in those 102 innings.

I gotta agree. I don't think the Cubs value Hill that much.

For what it's worth, I was listening to the game here in Cincy on 700 WLW, and Jim Hendry stopped by to say "hello" to Marty Brennamen and Hal McCoy of the Dayton Daily News. Marty said he asked Jim about the Dunn for Mitre, Hill, and CP rumor...and said Jim laughed and said that would be too steep of a price to give up for Dunn. From this, Marty implied that the offer had been on the table, but Hendry declined. McCoy agreed that this was too steep. Let me reiterate, Marty implied this, he was not told that the offer had actually been made.

Just letting you know what I heard during the game here in Cincy. Nothing else has been said. This might reinforce what Bruce had to say earlier though.
