I say see if they will take Mitre and Williams and keep Hill. I might be one who is over valuing Hill but i do think he will be good. Also I think that Williams is a better fit for Cincy.

Also Im not sure why Cincy would want CPatt unless they intend to unload Griffy as well. They have Willy Mo, Griffy, and Kearns for an outfield, so what need does CPatt fill? My guess is they would want a big name position player like Dope plus someone that fits the ready to play now, although im not sure who that would be.

Would be very interesting to know who did decide the original deal was too steep.

I would not give up Mitre and Williams with Wood potentially going back to the DL.

to get Dunn I would think about it. We have Rush to start in the fo9r Wood (or Hill). If Wood's injury is long term then I may reconsider. But i think to get Dunn it may be worth it.

How about giving Welly the chance as the 5th starter? He's been pretty good lately.

I still think I would do this trade.

I would have done the deal, even with Wood's injury. We could start Rusch in Wood's spot. While that's not ideal, it isn't horrible either.

Regardless, it appears that Hill has near untouchable status in Hendry's eyes.

Rusch apparently definitely isnt the answer as of lately to replace Woody in the rotation, if need be. Rusch has been getting rocked since June 12.

I believe that part of Rusch's struggles are due to being used in the pen. He seems to do much better as a starter than as a reliever.

Here's some things to chew on:

Hill stunk tonight.

The good news is that Williamson was sharp.

Something that hasn't been discussed:

Would Eric Patterson have to be packaged in a deal with Corey in the interest of not screwing up EP? If the Cubs traded Corey there would be a whole crapstorm about how he failed the team around the Chicago press and I'm not sure how that would help EP and his progress with the Cubs. It just seems like it would hamper his relationship with the man who is ultimately his boss - JH.

And yes, that box score took way too long. Where's Fred Hornkhul when you need him???

I still think it's as good as 50/50 that the Cubs get Dunn: there's no doubt they've had discussions, those can easily be resumed.

I CAN'T BELIEVE (caps used for emphasis) Hendry would say Hill, Mitre and CP was too steep just cuz of Hill. He must be tied pretty tight to CP, as hard as that may be to belive. Man, I would love to trade CP and others and get Dunn in return. Just like Farns, CP has potential but I will be glad if he is gone, as I am with Farns. Bad mojo can be contagious....

I think it's 50/50 those 3 Cub principals remain part of the deal and we add another quality player. We aren't going to get a guy like Dunn for just CP, Mitre and Hill... Dunn wasn't as accomplished as Sexson, but Sexson brought back more than those 3.

Maybe so - but Rusch's final 3 starts before getting moved to the pen were not very spectacular either....

Pitchers have off days. I don't think he forgot how to pitch since that 4-hitter he threw. It's possible he's still in some kind of extended slump, but I believe his problems are at least exacerbated by pitching from the pen.

Sorry to have to bump but since it hasn't been mentioned that Hill got rocked tonight I figured I'd keep everyone up to date. Not to mention all the time I wasted fixing the box score.

I'm almost postive it was the Reds - it makes sense McCoy talked with Reds, and not Cubs, management and they were the ones who said too steep.

I'm not trying to start anything, but Marty Brennamen said it was Hendry who told him that Hill, CP, and Mitre was too steep of a price for Dunn. My wife and I both heard it listening to the game today (She's a Reds fan unfortunately). Hal McCoy, the HOF Writer for the Dayton Daily News, agreed that it was too much to give up for Dunn. It may sound crazy, but this is what transpired.

You could hear Marty yell "bye Jim" right before he went into the story on the air.

As crazy as this all sounds, I'm 100% positive this is what I heard.

McCoy loves Hill, and he has stated this in the past in some of his columns.

That's all I got...

This is the article you were talking about, I posted it in a Kearns thread a while back:

http://www.daytondailynews.com/rec/content/sports/daily/0710bbinsider.html

Call the Cubs

A hint for Reds General Manager Dan O'Brien: If you want to trade Austin Kearns — and you should if you are going to keep him exiled in Louisville — give Chicago Cubs GM Jim Hendry a call. The fast-fading Cubs are desperate for hitting, and left-handed pitcher Rich Hill might be available.

Who's Hill? He pitches for Class AAA Iowa, and he has 148 strikeouts in 95 2/3 innings between Double-A, Triple-A and the majors. In 5 2/3 innings with the Cubs, he struck out nine major-leaguers. One scout said, "He has a Barry Zito-like curveball."

Just dial 1-773-404-2827. Ask for Jim and be nice.

Just to refresh, for Sexson, Shane Nance (who hasn't turned out too well)and PTBNL Noochie Varner the Brewers got:

Craig Counsell, second baseman Junior Spivey, catcher Chad Moeller, first baseman Lyle Overbay and left-handers Chris Capuano and Jorge De La Rosa.

Capuano is doing very well for them starting and reliver De La Rosa is 24 and shows promise. Overbay was an all-star for them as I recall, Moeller is their backup catcher, Counsell and Spivey are solid regulars for other teams.

Granted that trade is well known to be a coup for the Brewers, but saying Nance and De La Rosa cancel each other out (which they don't), that's 5 ML regulars for Sexson and someone named Noochie. Dunn is younger and has a better OBP - he has to be worth a fourth (at least) to the Reds.

Like we've said, it's a high price to nab Dunn.

That sounds so crazy! Was this on the radio, like I heard, or on TV? I said almost postive... I just can't believe swapping CP for Dunn and losing Hill and Mitre (who is most definitely replaceable) is too much for Jim!

If Hendry brings in Dunn for CP, Mitre and someone other than Hill he deserves a statue and my god the Reds are [expletive] or cheap. Or what if we hang on to CP? I sure wouldn't mind losing CP, but if we keep him it wouldn't be that bad either. A 2006 OF of Dunn, CP and Pie would be sweet - a lot of Ks tho....

I hate this organization sometimes. Wouldnt trade Hill for Dunn, straight up? Kill me.

The dude doesn't have all the tools to succeed in this game...

Yeah, ZZ, to catch up, Bruce, said Hendry wouldnt do a straight up trade. God thats ridiculous.

It was with CP and Mitre. I think Hendry really belives in CP.

CP is just such a no walk-takin' no slugger sluggin' whiff machine....CUT THE CORD JIM! IF YOU LOVE SOMETHING SET IT FREE!

Does anyone else find this all to be soooooooo incredibly strange.....the whole situation is just weird!! :?

1) Guy comes in with a new rumor about Dunn and is adominant about this being fact. Stated everything very nicely and seemed real genuine IMO

2) A radio announcer talks about this same trade on the air--I have never heard another announcer talking about something like that. And the fact that he describes the exact same deal is just too strange to not be "something"

3) Even with this on-air, Bruce Miles comes in and says there is nothing to it and it is not a rumor. Remember, he didn't say that Hendry turned down the deal, he said there was no deal exchanged.

4) The initial poster is banned from this board and nobody seems to know why--like I said he seems to be very genuine and even if the trade falls through, we all must admit he was not outrageous in his claims.

All of this just reaks of suspicion for me. I am going to bed, but I have a feeling that tomorrow is going to be a very interesting day. I truly thinks this was in the works, but it was not supposed to get out before the teams were done playing and now they are damage controlling...................or it is all just cockamamie!!!! I guess we will see after the game tomorrow....................

oh ya, by the way, that is a fairly large game for us tomorrow--6-2 against pirates/reds is real good, but 5-3 hardl does much for me!!

See you all tomorrow

I don't care what consequence it brings

I have been a fool for lesser things

I want you so bad

I think you ought to know that

I intend to hold you for the longest time

Oops, I didn't see that. I have my doubts Hendry is THAT dumb. Maybe Bruce didn't hear about CP and Mitre. I mean that's just [expletive]. Huge hole in LF....

Look at this lineup:

Hairston

Walker

DLee

Dunn

ARam

Burnitz

Nomar

Barrett

Look at the L/R balance. Look at only 2 whiff machines, both of whom walk at excellent and good rates. Nomar would have no pressure to perform, which I bet he will, at least better than Neifi. That's a championship lineup.

Where is SweetEmotion? Would he like to refute Mr. Miles?

Let's just say that SweetEmotion had his 15 minutes of fame. Hope he enjoyed it. I'm really going to miss him.

Having read everything in this thread. I don't understand why SweetEmotion was banned. He didn't say anything inflammatory on the board unless its a PM or something. I really don't see the need to give this guy a vacation.

Meh. After hearing this stuff about Hendry unwilling to trade Hill for Dunn, I'm thinking we most likely won't get Dunn. The only other option out there that I want is Huff, but I haven't heard anything lately about him being available.
