  1. Yes--indeed it was Mike Morgan and not tapani.
  2. This might be the greatest thread of all time for a lifelong 38 year old cub fan. What a trip down memory lane. Does anyone remember Kal Daniels first game--I pretty sure he pinch hit and came and got a double. I was so pumped, then the next batter followed with a single, but Daniels got eaten by a grass goblin and went tumbling down about half way to home plate and the cubs lose!!! ALso, Orlando Merced--who could forget that he wasnt eligible for playoff roster, but he hit s game-winning homer against the brewers during that playoff chase. I am going to add a couple that i have not yet seen: Fernando Ramsey--i think obscure Gary Gaetti--not obscure, but in the category of "they were only a cub for a moment" Damon Buford--was he in the 90s? Anyone remember how cool he used to signal how many outs to other OFers? Jose Vizcaino--not really obscure, but I have to share about how mad Harry used to get everytime he swung. I remember the 1-0 opening day game between Maddux (braves) and Tapanin (I am not sure it was tapani). Anyways, Vizcaino swung at a 3-0 pitch and harry shouted out: "where the hell is he gonna hit it anyways?!?!?!?" Ahhh, good memories
  3. thanks for the feedback fellas--I think it is fair to say that this is a big part of this teams record. WOW!! Also, it should be cause for optimism if we can get the back of the rotation back in place. We will see
  4. Ok--I am too lazy to figure this out for myself so I thought one of you might know. What is the cubs record so far this year when someone other than Z, Garza, Demp, Wells or Cashner starts a game. It seems like this record/stat is going to be ridiculously poor. THanks in advance
  5. Both ulled from their respective games tonight. That is just too much of a coincidence
  6. thanks for the info ](*,)
  7. Just wondering if someone can post what Cubs record is when Miles a) plays and b) is simply on the active roster. My friend and I have decided that he is a mini-card who was sent to the cubs to destroy our empire  Thanks for the help!!
  8. Ok guys, I just want to tell you to not be afraid. I have this all worked out for us!! I will not allow us to lose tomorrow night. I have an incredible record at Cubs games recently. I have won 9 of my last 10 games. Once we get that straightened away we go to LA where nobody gives a shot about anything and we forget about all of this pressure and watch our Stud Rich Harden beat them in game 3 and then turn to Big Game Teddy for game 4. Yes, you heard it here first--we will win this thing in 4!!!! Mark my words. Go ahead question me and doubt me, it will only make my beliefs stronger. Trust me, we are going to win this series and we are going to the World Series (beyond that I cannot promise anything). I have worked way to hard for 162 games this summer to let 1 game get my dobber down. Talk to you tomorrow from Wrigley. PS--yes, I do know that 23 of 26 teams that have won game 1 in the NLDS have gone on to take the series. But come on, I think we are used to having the odds against us!!
  9. Not official until tomorrow, but blogger on Sun Times says that is the decision. Man, I cant wait for 5:30 to get here.
  10. BBTN just said that Wednesday will be at 5:30pm. WGN said they will have all gametimes on Sports at 9:40
  11. Does anyone know when they will officially announce gametimes?? They certainly wont wait until after the whole WS/Twins mess clears up will they?? I am going thursday and want to make travel plans ASAP!
  12. I actually think it is impossible for us to not have home field advantage. If the mets sweep us, then that will mathmatically elimate Houston making the extra game on monday not happen. Due to this our winning percentage would be better than Philly even if they win out. Anybody smarter than me who can verify that i am right??
  13. Len Kasper = class act Thanks to you Len for being part of so many great days in my housefhold this summer. Keep em healthy this week and let's finish this!
  14. Yep--they just reported that on the SCORE this morning as well. Maybe that will be a good confidence boost for him. It is funny how we are sooooooooooooo high on players when they are playing well and sooooooooooooooooooo low on them when they are struggling. I would hate to play for most of the people who post on here. A smart man once told me, you are never as bad as you think you are when you lose and you are never as good as you think you are when you win
  15. The SCORE said no Fukudome today... I think they said this was the line-up Theriot SS Fonte 2B Lee ARAM Soto Edmonds DERO Johnson Dempster. I am 90% sure that was the rest of the order. By the way--Bruce if you are around I enjoyed your comments on Hit and Run this morning--good work as always!!
  16. I just heard this on ESPN1000. Lou really doesnt put up with sucking!
  17. I am just telling you guys what Kaplan said. and to be honest, I have always thought that Kaplan is a pretty big fan and wants to win as bad as most of us. I just dont think he would fabricate this. But I honestly have now way of actually knowing if he speaks the truth. Just stating what he said
  18. Ok guys, I have not posted in a while and I am sure I am going to be ripped for this one, but I have to share it with everyone nonetheless. I live here in DSM and David Kaplan was just on a local Sports radio station. He stated among other things that Greg Maddux told him personally that Edmonds still has some good in him and that he is "extremely motivated to stick it to the Cards". Maddux told Kaplan that many of Edmaonds problems were due to the spacious centerfield in Petco. To my surprise he also ripped Pie saying basically that he has a case of and I quote "Big League-itis". He said several veterens are not happy that he does not get the park and work and that the Chicago nightlife is a problem for him. He said he thought this was becoming quite a problem and he needs to come here to Iowa and regain a focus if he wants to fulfill his talent. That was the jist of the discussion. I know it will probably be ripped by most, but I have to admit it made the whole thing a bit more paletable for me!
  19. thanks for the help guys--I really appreciate it!
  20. I dont know if this is an acceptable topic around here, but I was hoping for a bit of help from some of you who are experts with the minor leaguers. i am in a pretty competative NL only fantasy league and I am looking for the top 15 position prospects in the NL. Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  21. Well, i dont know how many of you have paid attention to me this year, because I just read most of the time and rarely post, but I must say I have had a remarkably good feel for this team this year. I called them getting to .500 by June 1, being in 1st by september 1 and have stated that JJ would turn things around...anyways, if anyone cares... I feel pretty comfortable saying that the cubs will make it to the World Series this year, but then will lose to the AL representative in the fall classic I am not saying I am going to be right, i am just saying I havent been wrong yet I AM SO PUMPED FOR TOMRROW
  22. I was saying that I wasnt really worried about next year during this July?August and Sept. And everyone on this board can say I am naive and dumb, but I think there is more to a ballplayer than these numbers that people can spew out. Dont get me wrong, they have their place, but I like to look at the whole package and I think Kendall has been good. He is patient, tough, smart ballplayer and know I cannot back that with any stats--that is just how i feel Kendall has been awesome for 1 month. The other 2 months his OPS is in the 5's thats not good. Couple that with his terrible defense and inability to throw out King Kong Bundy trying to steal, and his performance with the Cubs has been subpar. There is plenty of reason to believe Soto could have put up better numbers on the average then Jason Kendall. Additionally, regardless of Soto's production, we would have a much better idea of what to do for Catcher next year. Ya, that is exactly what I am thinking about these last 2 months. And by the way, I still think Kendall has been awesome for this team I'm not sure I follow...I was trying to say that we should have started Soto regularly a long time ago to get a good read as to whether or not he could take over the starting job next year.
  23. The only part I am really tired of hearing is that you cannot blame the OSwalt situation. I have 3 kids--all scheduled induced labor and you know what he could have chosen any day for the next 2 weeks to do this. What a joke! He makes $500,000 a start---yes more than I will probably make in a lifetime and the only remaining meaningful start he has--he just cannot work around it. Very unprofessional by the entire organization.
  24. On cubs.com, it says the game is on wgn tonight??? Has it been changed or is that a mistake by Muskat??
