  1. That is exactly what I thought when I heard Piniella's comments. I bet you Dero is going to get a shot at short--especially after looking so good at 3rd and with Piniella's knack for not being shy to "play around" with his defenders.
  2. I sometimes just sit here and smile as I come home and read through the pages after an eventful day for our cubbies. i always just think to myself--man, I wish this board could have been here to hear what people said when the cubs got a terrible prespect named Sandberg and terrible hitting shortstop for Ivan DeJesus
  3. Oh come on dude!! Have you ever played competative sports--ever been part of a team. He did more to be a leader by showing his heart--and by the way, I think everyone on the Cubs team was so hot because it was him--and that shows you leadership. Will the suspesion suck--yes, but that i not what a leader should be thinking about. And no matter what--a guy just threw a 90 mph fastball at his head and then mouthed off (I dont know what Yound said, but anything short of my bad--is mouthing off in that situation. You need to check out a great song by Kenny Rogers--it is called "Coward of the COunty" It might teach you a lesson about life
  4. Lose the battle win the war; get the series. Let's hope so---one more complaint and I know this is a stretch but after watching the play on Theriot at the plate several times--the catcher NEVER tags him. They bump sides, but he never tags him. Again, i am not saying a guy would make that call, but technically he should have been safe. And say what you want--that is just the type of thing they would call somone like barrett for. this was discussed at length in the thread. you are wrong. NY says so and incidentally that exact call was made on the play in which Chipper was injured just a few weeks ago. Ok, my bad. I was not on computer during entire game. He definitely did not tag him. That is pretty clear I would say, now if you want to argue that this call will not usually go your way then that is a different story
  5. I too was at this game. i took my 4 year old son and we had a great time. Sat next to Mike Mahoney's family--very nice people. All in all, has to be the best fathers day I have gotten in my brief career as a DAD!

  7. I know I am sorry--not usually into the whole "message board fighting"--just a frustrating loss and I really think that anyone watching this entire game knows that we got hooked on that one I already admitted I overslept and didn't see the rest of the game, and that it is perfectly possible that the ump had a wide strike zone. The ump definitely had a wider zone than he did in the Branyan AB. But as Truffle pointed out, the Cubs are unlikely to score. Sucks for Z, but I don't see the Cubs winning anyways. I agree with your comments here. I think tomorrow is quite a big day for our cubbies

Then why make comments to the rest of us when you really dont understand what we are talking about--you should have just kept quite on this one because you were grossly uninformed. Man, is anyone else just feel like they could jump out of their skin after that one--I AM SO FRUSTRATED!

  10. No, I'm not a Cardinals fan. When have I ever not rooted for the Cubs? I just don't agree with the "it went against the Cubs, it must be wrong" theory of fandom. you are an idiot if that is what you think is happening here--watch the stinking game. he has called EVERYTHING a strike and then got cub hitters down in the count on similar borderline pitcches in the bottom of the ninth--his calls lost us that game. Either you are an antagonist or an idiot but eiterh way, I am done wasting my breath on someone as shallow minded as you
  11. You obviously haven't been watching today. Those balls were in the umps zone all day long. Perhaps, but if a Cubs player had been called out on those, there would be even more outrage. The first was below the knees and the second was off the plate. watch the game--that is just an idiotic statement because he has been calling strikes on cubs like that all day--and padres as well until this last 2 inings--it is a joke
  12. I dont even want to hear it--he has been calling everything a strike all day--that is absolute BS!!!!!!! I am sooooooo pissed. I could see that coming--Mike Everitt --you are another terrible Des Moines umpire WHAT A JOKE--home plate umps totally control baseball games You obviously haven't been watching today. Those balls were in the umps zone all day long.
  13. Does anyone know why Murton did not play tonight at the Iowa Cubs game and he was not even listed on their roster??
  14. WTH! Doesn't anybody own an iron anymore? haha its the first one i found for a picture, and well they are 3-0 since i started using it Disregard Swordsman's previous chastising post. Use it. Use it every game. well, i plan on it...and if i have it my way...i'll be starting game threads until well after the 4th of july Well, I hope you're right considering I'm going to a the games in DC (July2, 4th & 5th) I am going to the game on the 3rd in DC!! Yippee. I really think they a re turning the corner and it might be time for some of you to start giving Lou some credit--the guys that are helping turn this season around would never have played under Dusty. Well, I am off to see the Iowa Cubs now tonight. I am excited to go watch Patterson play.
  15. Who is this team..................and what have they done with our Cubbies?????? Dont they know they are supposed to self destruct when something goes wrong???? Is there an official Mike Fontenot bandwagon yet---if so I want on!!!!!
  16. Very bad switch that time! Decent chance that FLoyd's spot could get up in the 9th. Bad move
  17. that is crap--Ibanaez could have wrapped into an inning ending DP just as easily. SOme of you guys just always say the negative and then say you are always right because I never hear anyone saying good job when the "good"decision is made!! It is on Lou. Everyone knew Marquis had to come out. I didn't. They weren't hitting him. He got what should have been an inning ending DP. He hadn't thrown that many pitches. I don't see how you can assume he's done there.
  18. this is the craziest team I have ever seen. Only the cubs could outhit a team 9-2 and trail in the game 4-3--unreal. Oh and also, how ridiculous are these umpires getting--get over yourself and that big ego McClellend
  19. I know this is an old thread but I think it deserves to be revisited. I really have been on fire this year--I called the cubs to be back to .500 by May6, I predicted that Pie makes a difference and HE DOES--someone smarter than me tell me what are record with him on the roster now is??? I think along with Fonte and Theriot (LSU) and Pie (through the cubs system), you have guys that have won....period, I dont care if they are top ten prospects or not--they are winners!! Leave them alone and let them play. My next prediction. The cubs will be in forst place on September 1.
  20. See--that is ifunny, the quote kind of ticked me off. Seemed like he made excuses for his very average play. I think something along the lines of I have not played real well this year offensively or DEFENSIVELY and there is really no excuse for that but I am excited to go down there and get some at bats to get myself straighten out. I have just been real disappointed in "everyone's golden boy" around here. I know I am in the minority--I hope it can go down and come back better like Pie did!
  21. Oh come on fellas--I get tired of reading some of you in here who just blame Lou every time. Ohman had gotten righties out for the past inning and 2/3. How about putting it on Barrett--catch the stupd ball and we are fine. This team just doesnt make plays. PERIOD!!
  22. Thank you--i appreciat that:)
  23. I know it is not like this board to actually reflect and give management some credit, but I want to commend Lou for how he has handled this team. I love the fact that he is giving Fontenot a shot. He has been great at AAA for 2 years now and was a first round draft pcik--I just think it is refreshing after Dusty to have a guy who will let "unproven players" play. I love the energy that Theriot, fonte and Pie have provided and I think it may spark us as the season goes on. Too his credit, I think Lou just likes ballplayers and he is not afraid to let them play. Personally, I am enjoying watching him take ownership over this mess that he was handed. Go ahead--tell me how dumb and wrong I am......................
  24. I assume you ar ein iowa. if you have directv, you should always get Comcast+ on 668. Let me know if it works for you
  25. Some of you who are like me and think the Cubs are punished much more by MLB than other teams will be interested in keeping an eye on this developing situation. Berkman was kicked out of last night's game against the Rockies and in the 9th inning he retured to the field during a benches clearing shouting match. I am just interested to see his punishment and I see this as a blatent disregard for the rules of the game. It will be interesting
